I recently needed to do a XMR trade and ended up using https://cryptosnearby.com/. The trade went through smoothly, escrow worked as expected, and I didn't run into any issues during the process.

Just sharing my experience since I see people asking about P2P options from time to time. Curious if anyone else here has tried it and how it went for them.

It's always useful to hear real feedback about XMR exchange services. Roughly how long did the whole process take from start to finish?

Despite their claims to be a Localmonero & Localbitcoins alternative, this thread is actually the only positive review about the service. However, ScamAdviser rates it to be unlikely safe [1] due to the following reasons:
- The owner of the website is using a service to hide their identity on WHOIS.
- High number of suspicious websites on this server.
- The registrar has a high percentage of spammers and fraud sites.

In addition to the fact that the website is too young to offer high-risk cryptocurrency services, which indicates that there is a strong likelihood the website is a scam. I advise everybody not to use this service.

Isn't this normal practice? Everyone hides their domain contact details all the time so that they are not harvested by spammers and used to harass you with garbage.

It's also the default option on most registrars when you buy a domain.

Personally, I use WHOIS protection all the time, and I don't know anyone who doesn't use it.

I think so; it isn't an issue nowadays hiding identity for purchasing a domain name. Domain providers like Namecheap offer lifetime free domain protection to hide the real identity. For me, I have purchased a domain including protected identity because I really don't want to share my personal information over the internet.

However, their exchange seems to have no KYC, and they are claiming an alternative to LocalBitcoin. Not sure how they are true since I haven't used them. Do they have any announcement threads on the forum? If so, we can check more details there. Since I have verified accounts on Binance and Bybit, I have been using them for P2P. Those who don't like to use such exchanges like Binance could choose that platform for non-KYC exchanges.

Just avoid it, there's no reason to use this service.

Despite their claims to be a Localmonero & Localbitcoins alternative, this thread is actually the only positive review about the service. However, ScamAdviser rates it to be unlikely safe [1] due to the following reasons:
Although ScamAdviser rates are not reliable, any site that a beginner account asks about is indirect promotion and is something to be avoided.

same, and it would be strange if a domain doesn't have whois protection/privacy enabled.

whois protection shouldn't really be the concern here.
the fact that the domain is only 5 days old is the real red flag among other things, like OP being an obvious shill account, and the website being poorly AI coded.

if anyone uses this website, you will 100% get scammed, stay away.

I have just pasted this from scamadviser review as one of the reasons, because despite it is commun practice that website owners hide their identities to avoid getting spammed, which is a valid reason in my opinion, websites hiding their identity get a slightly lower score in rating platforms. In this case of cryptosnearby, I think they are hiding their identity because they are scammers, not because they want to avoind unwanted spam.

Yeah, you saw people enquiring about about p2p services, so you created this account to point us to 'great' service that does the job. Thanks, but no thanks.

Op is surely paid to advertise this service and it simply shows what they are capable of, not to mention how new the domain is. Stay away from this service if you do not want to lose your funds.

Possible scam and the possibility of OP being a shill aside, are you aware that their KYC-free claim isn't really true?

It's good that they are transparent on their AML policy since it's posted in their footer,
But everyone should read it to see what they're getting into:

As you know it, some coins are "dirty" in the eyes of regulators whether it's actually used for illegal activity or just "smeared" by it.

Just another factor to consider for those who are willing to try it despite the red flags provided by other members here.

Supposing you're not a shill, it's a curious case how you ended up using a service that's less than a week old, one that's not aggressively promoted or even visible on popular social media platforms. Even their social media links aren't working. You can't even check reviews on them anywhere.

Supposing you stumbled on it somewhere, why did you choose a service that's pretty much unheard of over other options that aren't unknown and have long track records, say, RoboSats?

You may be part of their team or someone paid to shill that website because I have searched several review sites including Trustpilot and others, no single information about the website. They have no thread in the forum and practically have nothing serious online that will help people know about them, so how can someone trust them? If you are not part of the team, then you are lucky to have used their services and got your money. Due to too many red flags I have seen, I will not encourage anyone to deposit money in that platform.

and look at this:

https://cryptosnearby.com/?trader=user_080

how can there be someone who is a member since March, when the platform is 7 days old, lol.
and of course with 146 completed trades with 5 star reviews.

but on the same page it's showing "no reviews yet":

i guess OP forgot to say "make no mistakes" at the end of his prompts when he was vibe coding the site  Grin

No doubts that he is part of the team or someone paid to shill the platform. In both cases, he is a liar who should never be trusted, and his forum profile deserves a natural tag to alert others about the potential scam attempt. Despite being an old bitcointalk user, I have never encountered marketing groups or agencies that explicitly advertise their bitcointalk shilling services elsewhere on the internet. This is why I think this account belongs to the scam team itself that was just created to shill the service.

No way this isn't a scam, red flags everywhere, inconsistent dates, "reviews" that are older than the domain registration itself.  There's very obvious pattern of these multiple kinds of sites and when you look at these so-called trade sites, listing sites, etc. that try to position themselves as an "authority" you'll notice the pattern in the site designs appears similar as well.  The most concerning is they are already clearing the way to scam users (and most likely have already but, we've not heard about it) is this:

Quote
AML Policy

Anti-Money Laundering Policy

Cryptosnearby is committed to preventing money laundering and the financing of terrorism. We comply with applicable AML/CFT regulations.
Our Commitments

    Identity verification for high-volume traders
    Transaction monitoring for suspicious activity
    Reporting obligations to relevant authorities
Immediate suspension of accounts involved in illicit activity
    Cooperation with law enforcement investigations

This is literally an old excuse that we've all seen hundreds of times for an easy out about why they had to "freeze" someone's funds.  This is nothing like how Agoradesk/LocalMonero operated.  We hate garbage like this and it makes the crypto space look bad.

This is purely an unsolicited PR.
I don't see people asking for P2P options, as everyone knows a good number of places to buy and sell coins.

Over years, I have seen some silly ways of promoting projects and such projects are often scam projects. No one promotes an honest project in such a way. If you got a project, create an Ann thread for it and allow the community to scrutinize it and then use it if it's trust worthy.

Although we cannot determine how people run their business, especially if it's not a genuine business.
I saw another pointing us to domain age as a way of knowing a scam service.
