All in all, always protect your wallet, even if you dont use it often, for the fact you have created it and probably use it in transactions, it is always best practice to immediately save guard the wallet. First write down the seed phrase in somewhere safe, I usually prefer both on paper and then still save it digit, just incase., forgetting seed phrase is one of the reason alot of persons have lost money in crypto and it is very painful when you can't remember your access to your own money, so always save your seed phrase.

Securing your wallet is one of the most important responsibilities in crypto. A wallet can always be recovered if you have your seed phrase, but if you lose that seed phrase, recovering your funds may become impossible. That's why it's advisable to store it in multiple secure locations, such as a written copy kept safely offline and a properly secured backup. However, avoid sharing your seed phrase with anyone or storing it where unauthorized people can access it. Good security habits today can save you from painful losses in the future.

Storing the seed phrase on a paper is the major thing to do, anything that lets you save your details in the internet is a total risk to be avoided for your safety. Even when storing keys on paper, not just any type of paper and not keeping in any environment also.

When you write in a paper, store it among other of your certifications, where you keep your other essential credentials for your safety.
Traditionally, our fore parents do store important documents for decades, how is it different from doing the same to our seed phrase, I do disregard when people make storing seed phrase as something very complex, under a simple step we can protect our seed phrase for years without losing them.

Whether engraved or written down on paper, it's in our hands to protect the backup from tampering.

I completely agree with you, that most of generation today are not good in keeping good record and taking care of vital things which leads to misplaced and loss of things. We don't need to lose, as you clearly stated I recall some pictures and documents I saw in my grandfather house, they paper of 1978 church contribution and others activities kept in a wooden cupboard after his death while we are doing clean up and termite didn't destroyed it, we have many devices today that nothing can easily damage even in the next 50 years things like some plastic, using traditional method is not bad is as safe as anything just been deligence smart and keeping the documents properly in safe mode.

You mentioned the steps every nigerian should take to secure their Bitcoin wallet, in fact these days, every crypto enthusiast should learn about wallet security because we see that many people lose access to their wallets due to various carelessness. To be honest I noticed a news story a few days ago that in 2013 a person downloaded Bitcoin Core and he encrypted his wallet with a passphrase and even continued to invest regularly through DCA since then but that person lost access to the 16.5 BTC in his wallet, meaning he lost the passphrase for that last wallet. However he was later able to access his wallet after many attempts. Therefore, we need to understand that we need to safely hold the Bitcoin or crypto assets we have acquired from investing with our hard-earned money, as a result to keep our wallet safe, we need to store the seed phrase correctly, use strong passwords, and use 2FA, perhaps using these methods will help any crypto investor secure their assets.

Di person fit still add a passphrase to di seedphrase for maximum security and store both of them in separate locations. Even if anoda person come across di seedphrase, him no go fit spend di coin. Him go need both di seedphrase and passphrase to be able to access and spend di coin.

In Addition, you’re the first security of your wallet! Secure yourself first and foremost before you consider the wallet, most times it’s our vulnerability that leads to the vulnerability of our assets l, once you no fit hold yourself from some conversation you fit leak the security of your wallet with your conscious mind, so be mindful and then use air gapped device, and also it’s good we remember that security measures that are considered best today and be vulnerable tomorrow, so always update.
I agree with you when you say that you are the first security of your wallet, because someone who has not secured himself and is vulnerable doesn't have the capacity to protect his wallet. And how you can actually protect yourself is through information and knowledge which will better equip and protect you from becoming vulnerable.

Right, you understand it better! One most protect themselves before the wallet if you die too every thing will be over so you must protect yourself and your whole existence before you extend it to your asset.

Like you said information is what protects more. Additionally most of the time people try to speak more than they should leaving themselves vulnerable in some cases this very important you don’t speak you’re not supposed to. There is more but this is just I can say for now.

Crypto no longer be new thing again for our country. Nigeria now dey among the most crypto active countries in the world despite the fact that our government never get direction on what they want with crypto.

E get one statement wey say "to be forewarn is to be forearm" even with several threads available about wallet security, having some fresh threads go dey serve as reminders for old people and as warning for newbies since most of them no dey care to read old threads.

No be mouth but I can say most Nigerians sabi keep their wallet safe very well. Majority of the crypto loss incidents dey occur mostly because of scam and not because of wallet carelessness. I think this is because majority preferred to keep their coins in the CEX instead of self custody. Anything fraud, Nigeria name dey normally appear.

But keeping coin on exchange is also a security threat on it own. It reduces self custody mistakes of losing your seed but it concentrated risk. If exchange gets hacked, you're cooked already.

Keeping the security seed offline is better, leaving it on phone or a device that have access to internet is very risky, it could get compromised as long as the device is having internet connection because we don't usually verify the websites we use always, and phishing attacks are real.
If you can save it properly, writing them down on paper is the best way to keep your seed safe.
In additional, after writing it down on paper,it's best you store it in multiple safe locations incase something unexpected happens to one of it,you will rely on the other one to recover your wallet. Natural disasters and fire outbreak happens unexpectedly that's why it is risky to keep your seedphrase in one location because if anything bad happens to it, you have lost access to your wallet and if you have assets inside they are lost forever. This is the reason your seedphrase should never be store in one location instead you should keep it in multiple safe locations to avoid ugly incidents like this from happening.

All the measures explained by other members are very accurate and correct to work with, but I think we should also look at the crypto wallet itself. How often do we update our wallets? Do we constantly connect our wallets to websites without revoking the connection or linkage after we are done, because anything that warrants such, we have granted the website access to our wallet, and anything could happen to the wallet if there is a breach, so it is good we always disconnect or revoke the wallet's connection after we are done with whatever we connected it for.
Avoid clicking on links sent to our DMs by contacts not on our list of friends. Most of those links are phishing links sent to steal our information, which they could use to hack our accounts. Sometimes we just ought to block those unknown contacts that send such messages so they do not repeat sending those unsolicited messages again, so we can be safe they do not take advantage of our vulnerability.
