Several gamblers clearly doesn’t know just when to give up when they’re on the screen. Rather than throwing the towel, some would just rather keep going harder and harder, hoping they’ll get a breakthrough that make them recover their previous losses. But of course we know that’s rarely the case in most cases. So I’m curious to know, from your own individual perspective and viewpoint, when exactly should a gambler throw in the towel? How many times should a gambler lose before they get convinced that it’s clearly time to throw in the towel and walk away?

Whem the bankroll for the week have all be used for gambling and lost, that should be the right time to stop gambling until the following week. The bankroll that is of small amount of money from your salary, it can be less than 5% of your salary. Any reason that makes you deposit more money should be seen as something that is very bad.

That actually quite easy to determine.
Let us assume we are talking about a bettor who is a responsible and has an assigned betting and gambling budget, which happens to be a small fraction of his monthly income, basically money that person can afford to lose with no further consequences to his personal and household finances.
In that contexts and scenario, the person can continue on betting until that budget is depleted, when all the budget is gone, then it would be to log out the session and call it a day, basically throwing the towel.

Now, if you mean quitting betting for good.
That is a completely different question which goes beyond a bad luck streak just on a day. It is rather a more complex situation, and requires someone to have no idea of sports and no luck whatever in order not to even capitalize pure luck on bad picks/underdogs.

That’s in fact a good time to take a walk, but the thing is, we really have to wait or continue player first until we’ve  emptied our bankroll first before throwing in the towel. For me, I’ll say the moment we begin to notice that the losses are become too repeated. This mostly means or points towards a losing streak, and that could just be about the best time to throw in the towel, rather than having to wait until your bankroll is completely drained.

Speaking of disciplined gambling, I believe that each gamblers should set a personal limit on the number of losses (or a deposit amount, reaching which they stop), after which they stop playing (at least temporarily). Of course, it's crucial to strictly adhere to the set limits (behavioral strategy), as gamblers often begin to show "flexibility" in their decisions (playing one more time).

I believe the number of losses after which a gambler stops is what matters most here, as it could be one, two, three, or more. It doesn't matter. The important thing is to develop a habit of simply stopping after a certain number.

As others have said, use the money you can afford to lose is probably the general principle. Obviously if you have money to fill an ocean, that amount would be huge that losing $1 million would mean nothing to you, even if you do it for years. Sadly the average joe isn't that. I think most people know about that tbh. The question is always can they stick to discipline or not. It doesn't take a math genius to figure out if losing several thousands of dollars or hundred of dollars is a huge hit to your budget anyway.

As long as you're playing to 'recover' previous losses, you've already lost. In my view, the moment a gambler starts playing with money they can't afford to lose, or makes decisions based on the emotion of previous bets rather than the game itself, that’s when the 'curtain' should have already been drawn.

Knowing when to throw in the towel, shouldn't always be determined by the number of losses that a gambler encounters, and that is because gambling is very much uncertain and so there are times when folks can win 4 time in a row but eventually lose the last and vice versa... And that's the more reason why I think folks should decide throwing in the towel when they believe in their heart that emotions is already controlling them... For example when a gambler begins chasing their loses or when trying to increase their betting size due to frustration and whatnot... If such start happening then that's a sign that the gambler should take a big break...

Very vague as far as telling us what these users are gambling on. If they're losing consistently then they should consider changing their strategies especially on casino games. Most are luck but you have to play correct to maximize your profits. If they are playing a game such as blackjack incorrect they are just asking to lose.

In sports you don't look at the bets as money but in units and you don't try to recover a loss all at once, you try to recover a unit here and a unit there. Sometimes 2 or 3 units on a match if you are super confident.

You give up when you're broke.

I believe that playing until the last dollar of your bankroll or until a major loss is a consequence of faulty mental attitudes that permeate a person's worldview. One such faulty mental attitude is the motto "Never give up." So people start playing until the last dollar and accumulate losses. Moreover, for some people, even small financial losses aren't a compelling enough reason to quit. People need a real financial collapse to reassess their situation... Unfortunately, that's the reality.

There is no specific number of times a gambler must lose before stopping, nor is there one specific limit for everyone. This varies from one gambler to another depending on how much they can tolerate losing. Perhaps $1000 is a very large amount for some, but it is nothing for other gamblers. Therefore, each gambler determines the amount that suits him.

Some people do not know how to stop despite all the losses, so it is best for every gambler to allocate a certain balance at which to stop, otherwise he will continue to chase his losses and incur more and more losses without stopping.

For me, it's not about how many losses but how much money is left in my gambling budget. I keep saying budgeting is really important in gambling, especially if you are an active gambler, a gambler who gambles at least 2-3 times a week.

I actually don't have a specific budget for gambling, but I have a budget for entertainment. Netflix, in-game items, offline activities that entertain me, and gambling belong to this entertainment budget. There's also sub budgets inside this budget.

If you don't set a budget, you will end up losing more than you can afford. Gambler's fallacy can push you to chase losses, and chasing losses will bring you closer to bankruptcy. These are common things that could happen in gambling. Once you reach your budget limit, you better stop, rest, and try again next time when your luck has already restarted. Just accept that you had a bad run that day Grin

So I’m curious to know, from your own individual perspective and viewpoint, when exactly should a gambler throw in the towel? How many times should a gambler lose before they get convinced that it’s clearly time to throw in the towel and walk away?

Determining specific amount of losses will be very hard since it’s subjective on every gambler. Besides, A loser gambler usually don’t think much about how much they lose rather their potential gain in the future that’s why they keep coming back.

When? I think it’s when gambling is already damaging your quality of life that comes to the point that it affects your work or family living with you.

Gambling is not a necessity. Anyone can walk away if they feel that it’s already a hindrance instead of entertainment.

Whem the bankroll for the week have all be used for gambling and lost...

You give up when you're broke.

Supposing one is doing it right but is just unlucky, I agree it all boils down to how much you have left. If you're still having fun and your gambling wallet isn't yet drained, you may not throw in the towel yet. You don't even have to throw the towel at all. Your wallet would just tell you it's time to call it a day.

But if you're going home losing all the time or can't remember having any profitable session, perhaps you need to do some evaluation. You might not simply be unlucky, perhaps you're doubling down on your soft hands when the dealer's got strong cards.

We all agreed that it's good for any gambler to have a budget right? That is one should not just wake up one morning and decide to deposit a certain amount of money to the casino and spend it gambling, we all agreed that that it's best for every gambler to always have a weekly or monthly budget for gambling where as soon as that budget is exhausted for the week or for the month, that gambler won't gamble again until the next week or month when fresh money has entered, he can then set aside another budget for they week or that month depending on how you choose it.

I think this is the best way to determine when to stop, a wise gambler who sets aside a budget to spend on gambling for the week or month will divide the budget and know how much he or she should be spending on gambling every day so that the budget will carry him till the weekend or month end, this is assuming there is or are no wins, once the budget for the day is exhausted, such a gambler should rest and wait for the next day or any other day he feels like to gamble again since its not good to gamble every day.

We must be able to understand that in gambling, defeat is a sure thing, therefore no matter how hard we try we will not be able to get a win because the victory itself depends on luck so the right time to give up is when we have experienced defeat, but unfortunately for someone who is very obsessed with getting a win, they will not easily give up, With the example of online gambling when they gamble and have experienced defeat, they will continue to bet while they still have the balance in their account either until they get a win or until defeat occurs, then they will give up or take a break even if they lose and the capital runs out, they still have the opportunity to force themselves to gamble again.

Defeat is a friend to a gambler, inevitably no matter how much experience you have, there will be more losses than wins, so if you are looking for profit in gambling is a damage to thinking because it will never be profitable.
As an ordinary gambler who is ready to accept defeat and knows to have fun as well as a little luck, it's better to limit your gambling every session, the goal is to reduce excessive losses that are beyond your ability, but if your goal is to seek financial gain in gambling, it's better to stop now because it's just nonsense.

As far as I’m concerned, that’s the wrong question to ask. If you do it properly, you should only bet what you can afford to lose, so that if you hit a losing streak where you just can’t stop losing and end up losing everything you’ve deposited at the casino, it’s no big deal. You just wait until the next time it suits you to make a deposit, and that’s it. Winning and losing streaks come and go. If you really only bet what you can afford to lose, a winning streak will eventually come your way.

The problem is that many people don’t do that; they play with fire, and if they lose more than they can afford, it affects them.

How many times should a gambler lose before they get convinced that it’s clearly time to throw in the towel and walk away?
It is a different number for different gamblers, and you do not have to use the number of times your friend or someone you know has to fail before they quit gambling for that day or for a period of time for you to use the time frame for yours.

Sometimes the number of losses that people can take is determined by their pockets; that is, the amount of money they have to risk, and you may not have the same amount of money or may not be willing to risk so much. So it is always reasonable and smart for you to set a loss limit based on your pocket size and the amount of money you've budgeted for gambling.

There have already been many discussions about this. There is a lot to speculate about, but I will be brief solely from a practical point of view. The moment you come up with the idea to borrow money in order to gamble, you should stop. It won't be easy. Because the desire to borrow money will be like an obsession spinning in your head. But in fact, this is the border that should not be crossed.

Of course, it's better to stop even earlier, at the moment when you took the money for gambling from your untouchable savings (if any). But still, the last frontier when you can still stop is duty.
