I have had the opportunity to visit various Local Boards in the past few weeks. One thing that has come Recently, I have been visiting various local boards on the forum. I have noticed that some local boards are quite active there are new topics every day, regular discussions, and good participation from members. On the other hand, I have also seen some local boards where not a single post or new topic has been created in the last few months; in other words, the board is practically completely inactive.

Now my question is, if a Local Board is completely inactive for a long time (say 4-6 months or more), what kind of action does the forum administration usually take? Are these boards just kept in a reserved state, or is archiving or reorganization considered at some stage?

Another thing I would like to know is, if a new or existing language community is active enough and needs its own Local Board, is there a way to use it instead of a long-dormant Local Board? Or are there completely different policies for creating a new Local Board and maintaining an old one?

Edit: I've received the answer I was looking for, so thank you everyone for taking the time to explain the matter. I believe there is no need for further comments on this topic, therefore I am locking it myself to prevent unnecessary posts.

Since you bring this up , I would like to watch some statistics over your claim. These are just base less claim's without providing any strong data. If you really thinks that a country is progressing enough to need their own local board and it's also necessary to replace some old dormant local boards with some new one. Why not create a your own presentation towards all the forum member.

Data always speaks up. If you able to spend your time in other section hope you would also get your time to collect all the necessary data and present it here.

First of all, it is worth noting that I am not demanding the removal of an inactive Local Board and the establishment of a new Local Board. I am mainly interested in learning from experienced and senior members of the forum, so I asked this question.

For example, if anyone has recently observed the עברית (Hebrew) Local Board, they will have noticed very limited activity there for a long time.

Hebrew Board:

Total Topics: 743 (20 January 2013 – 26 February 2026)
Total Posts: 2518 (26 January 2013 – 28 February 2026)

On the other hand, if you follow the Pakistan, Bangladesh, Serbian and Ukrainian Local Boards, you will see a relatively high level of activity.

Local BoardTotal PagesTotal RepliesTotal Views
Pakistan1,61532,2967,281,370
Bangladesh68613,7126,003,460
Serbian2575,1333,861,888
Ukrainian3146,2664,473,649

My only intention is to know whether the forum administration follows any policy in this regard if a Local Board has been inactive for a long time, or whether the boards are kept unchanged, considering the possibility of reactivation in the future.

As long as there are active members, there is no need for that. The forum is very slow with regard to adding or deleting new boards, so inactivity needs to be more than two years (according to the boards that have been archived).

Local boards are locked only or mainly because it's spam. I see no valid reasons of locking a local board because it has been inactive for months or years. There is no harmful from an inactive local board at all, so let it be is the best decision.

You're very right that forum is very slow responsive with creating new local boards, new child boards or locking boards. Like in recent years, there are proposals with child boards for NFT, RWA but nothing was created, similarly for request of local boards or Bangladesh, Pakistan as I saw.

Forum Admin does nothing, and that's okay Wink
The Dutch board doesn't have many users, but it's not as if inactive boards bother anyone. As we would say in Dutch: "het eet geen brood" Smiley

I agree with this. Although I've not seen where a board was closed because of a lack of participation except the op is asking this so that there can be space for new ones else it's not really necessary.

Why would you single out out only local boards, when there any many other inactive boards in forum?
Most of the members are not even noticing what is going on in local boards, and they can easily be hidden or collapsed.

The forum administration does nothing unless everything regarding the board is obsolete. It's only then that the board will be moved to archival. Check out the archival board for a clue about the kind of boards that are moved there

Another thing I would like to know is, if a new or existing language community is active enough and needs its own Local Board, is there a way to use it instead of a long-dormant Local Board? Or are there completely different policies for creating a new Local Board and maintaining an old one?
Every new board is created for a new demand. There is no point of using the old dormant board that maybe having some hisotrical threads that need to be preserved for something new. One reason is for archival purposes

If the forum should operate on that standard, I believe there will be a lot of clean up because even under bitcoin board, some sub-board is less active for several months. I believe there are other several boards or sub-board apart from local boards.

In my opinion, local board should not be deleted for low activity as long as there are active people from that board in the forum. Some people enjoy making contributions in the general board than in local board. Some local boards have less users in the forum and that will definitely affect their activities in the local board.

True and I think they haven't seen the need to visit their local boards that's why there's less participation. I also feel that if there's a way to lock some inactive boards, it should be done but I guess those who created those boards feel that there'd come a time when they'd become relevant or they're already, it's just that it's not everyone that sees it.
