You need to give reasons why you deserve to be one; being a merit source is not a right but a privilege. You need to pass the test to be granted that privilege, which demonstrates your qualifications. If you don't have a qualification, Theymos has no reason to bestow that privilege on you.

If you want to be a merit source:


 1. Be a somewhat established member.
 2. Collect TEN posts written in the last couple of months by other people that have not received nearly enough merit for how good they are, and post quotes for them all in a new Meta thread. The point of this is to demonstrate your ability to give out merit usefully.
 3. We will take a look at your history and maybe make you a source.

I am especially eager to have merit sources in sub-communities such as the local sections.

Your thread doesn't meet the application requirement. You can do as Theymos says in this quote, unless you are just having Sunday fun with this your merit application.

The people that are saying a blatant NO, seems like they know you very well from your local board, and you should have some support elsewhere, and I don’t think this your application gets accepted, first of all you don’t know the criteria that are supposed to be meet before sending an application for a merit source position.

I think you should follow the proper guidelines so you can be voted for, and you don’t need to feel offended because people are voting No” everyone isn’t going to vote for you, and there are also people who are going to vote for you, it’s a personal choice.

I mentioned this typo in my prior comment edit. I was going say you have sharp eyes but then I noticed you wrote, 'liberty19', instead of, 'libert19', so now you don't get the praise.

This is not going to work. Merit source is something people are looking up. If you're applying for a job, you post your qualifications to get accepted for a job, making it easy for us to support you by giving us reason to support not just wanting to be a merit source.
All the other merit sources take time and effort to post their qualification; some of them take years to grant their application, but with yours, you have no chance at all.

Yea, that's the best thing to do, providing 10 quality unmerited posts does 2 things;

1. It will show your ability to identify a merit worthy post
2. It will signal theymos that there is still insufficient number of merit sources that should warrant you being included

To be a merit source isn't something that will be done just verbal without following the procedures or requirements...You can cross check the applications of others who has became a merit source and apply, what you have written here, is not the normal procedure to apply as a merit source..please read other threads of merit source application that's been approved by theymos.

Why do I think this guy is being sarcastic about this application or trying to send a message through the manner of application but maybe people are not rationally seeing it from my perspective. Because of course he knows the process and what are the requirements and how to apply properly but chooses to do this, now it’s becoming funnier to me

To become a meit source, your desire alone is not enough. First, you must be a member with a certain reputation and standing on this forum, and also show some posts that you believe should have received merit.
However, all this is not enough because the final decision is not made by the forum members, but by the admins, based on their assessment.
Sometimes it takes a very long time to get a response, so don't expect to become a merit source quickly.

If you really want to apply for being a merit source then first lock this thread and edit the OP and then see who's going to support your application and who's not going to support it. Right now this thread looks more like a fun post and I believe someone with such high rank should not do something like this. This thread is a pure satire.

We've been seeing a flood of merit source application lately. I think libert19 just held up a mirror to all of them by stripping it down to the bare minimum.

I believe he's mocking the sudden wave of applications from people who don't even actually qualify yet. This is basically to say if the bar is just I want it because I posted then here I am too. Because I believe you're not lazy, you're qualify enough to know the pattern of proper application.

Wrong, some merit sources just received some PM from Theymos, and you cannot find their application, because they never created it. Being a source is something, that simply depends on an admin's decision. It is way more important to have a good statistics, related to sending merits, than to properly submit any kind of application.

I think there is more than enough sources. However, there is still insufficient number of good posts. And making them is much harder, than getting new merits out of thin air.

There are still many unsolved technical issues, which could be rewarded with a lot of merits, if anyone would write about them. For example: the current code won't scale to billions of users in a decentralized way: if all people would want to suddenly switch to BTCs, then only whales would be able to do that, and regular users could then only join through centralized custodians. And there are specific technical solutions, which could help to solve that problem, but nobody wrote about them yet, because it is difficult, to understand the cryptography behind some of such solutions, and implement even a working prototype for these things.

Anyone who understands the sarcasm of the topic is great at reading between the lines. I don't think the OP is a little-known user on the forum. I know him by his brevity in almost all subjects and even pointed it out once. He doesn't like to talk much, but he can often say it briefly but clearly. However, like all his recently opened topics, this topic also has an internal subtext; probably, as many have pointed out, he wants to criticize current applicants for the position of a merit source.

But let's be even more original, and let those who also wish to receive this duty respond to this topic. Whatever it is... Just leave your nicknames. One way or another, the admin will still choose the one he likes best.

But, to be honest, any position on the forum is an obligation. Sometimes I don't understand why people need it. Being a merit source means something that requires a lot of attention and accuracy, reading, and more of your personal time. Of course, if you do everything in good faith.😏

I almost took your op for a joke at first.

Please do the updating as quick as possible before majority of users visiting your thread innocently take you to be unserious with your application desire. There is no position that's to be applied for that doesn't come with certain requirements for qualification. And so, at  least you should have checked the applications of the last approved merit sources to guide your yourself in formatting something interesting. But I doubt you'll be intentionally applying for MS that way.
