This Isn't actually an issue instead it's basically just a personal preference. If you look on the negative side of what you are saying then that means for the average person that's constantly surfing you'll have over 30 tabs literally around every 15 minutes and personally I find too many tabs annoying.
This is what I have noticed on many sites. If you click on a link that is not the website link, it will open another tab for you. I see it as a good feature on the websites. If Bitcointalk can also have that feature, it will really good nice. Although I do not also see it compulsory, but it will be very good if admin do it. If someone wants to send merit to another person, another tab will be opened for it, and that is still on this forum.
I also think this would be a great addition. I have found it annoying to click on links and after browsing
for a few minutes or longer its either difficult to backtrack from a few pages deep in the new site or I
end up closing the window and reopen Bitcointalk again.

Simple: Open links in a new tab, when finished on those visited links just close them and Bitcointalk
is still there where you exited from.
This feature was removed due to security issues.
Previously, user-generated links would often open in a new window/tab. However, kcud_dab found out that there are
security issues with this, so I removed it. You'll have to middle-click links if you want them to open in a new tab.
If people find this disruptive, I could add rel=noreferrer to some of the target=_blank links, but then referrer info would never be sent, which might be undesirable.
I would hazard a guess that most people use their smartphones these days to access the site.
