Being able to see the list of those who viewed your thread.

There was a day I created a thread here in meta board and I was asking a question in that thread and honestly I was expecting LoyceV to reply, because I knew he was going to give me the correct answer especially since the few persons that replied were unable to give a correct answer.

Since I have not seen his reply I started refreshing my device and still I didn’t see his reply, I checked the numbers of people that has viewed the thread and I said to my self, I wish I can click on the numbers of view on my thread and see people or members that viewed my posts to see if LoyceV has viewed it and refuse to reply maybe because he didn’t know the answer to the question.
However later he replied and answered the question and i locked the thread immediately.

Do you guys think it will be cool if we can see the list of those who viewed our thread?

As for me yes after my encounter, I saw a need for it.

I do not think this feature has ever existed, and even if it did, it would be highly controversial....
First, because it would go against the need for anonymity that some users value by disabling the feature that allows others to see when they were last online.
Second, because it could easily be bypassed it simply by opening your post in an incognito tab without being logged into the forum.

Only if there is a setting to make it where a user wouldn't want to be on that list. Realistically, don't see this implementation happening, on the basis of most people would just configure that setting to be off anyway.

Incognito will not log out your account and you will see yourself still logged in if you switched to incognito mode. Only the usefulness of incognito is that it will make your browser not to keep logs of anything you browsed using the incognito. But using another browser can be useful without signing in regarding your post.

Who viewed your threads can be forum members or just guests (not forum members). Even with forum members, they can view your thread without logging in their accounts.

Cookies are bad for privacy, so you can think the same with your proposal, it's bad for privacy of viewers.

I also doubt it will get implemented. Even if it does, users who prefer not to show their online status would most likely stay hidden, just like when viewing the online members for example.

If you opened a new incognito window and then visit bitcointalk, you won't be logged in. Anyway, the main point is that guest views aren't counted as a topic read:

No this forum is not facebook or instagram. We don't care about those. I don't care who visited my topic or profile page. I certainly don't care who ignored me for whatever reason. People can do these stuff in secret and the other party  doesn't need to know about it. These stuff create unnecessary human interactions which have zero value.

And what if one day LoyceV add you to his ignored list?  Anyone could add you to his ignore list,  you will have to wait forever for them to view your post. Since there is no way to even know if you are been ignored, this will be of no use.

Exactly what that happened on my browser, it will keep me signed in when I opened the incognito mode. I do not know what could have caused this. I later tried it with Chrome, alegotardo and TypoTonic were both right. Incognito supposed not to login my account when I switched it on to visit the forum.

What is the needs you saw that made you to think noticing of anyone who views a thread is a good idea...Reacting or responding to a thread is enough for us to know who has viewed a thread...Viewing a thread without responding, that shows that the person that views the thread is not interested to the thread...so their's no need to know whosoever that views a thread, because forum is not a social media were our videos/photos are been watched on a regular basis..The way forum is been built is okay...The feature you're implying to establish, is "No to me"

If you put somebody in your ignore list, their topics will show as grayed out in topic list, nothing really vainishes from your view, and you may still engage if curiosity takes hold of you despite the user being ignored.

As for op, just feels like vain feature.

Well I saw the reasons some of gave and it opened my mind to the disadvantages of it, especially what alegotardo said about it disabling the feature of those who puts there current status offline so people won’t notice when they are online.

I believe those that off their current status will actually set their profile so they won’t be on the list .

mindrust I perfectly understand the area you are coming from and I agree with you.

Cookdata if such a setting of someone seeing those that view your thread is in this forum I believe even those that ignore you their names will be among the viewers, that is if they actually viewed your thread .
