Agreed. Altcoins are highly speculative and risky, but comparing them to gambling just isn't fair.
Take Eth, SOL, Bnb and HYPE, for example. They have real usecases and offer actual utility. Some have been around for years and have made huge return for investor. Can gambling do that? How can you lump them in with meme coins and claim investing in them is basically the same as gambling?
Altcoins are gambling because you'll never know when they disappear all of a sudden due to loss of interest or as a result of getting compromised. They're not as reliable as Bitcoin is. Besides, market prices are too volatile. Even in serious cryptocurrencies like the ones you've mentioned. Short-term speaking, their price fluctuations are wild. With "meme" coins, it's worst. I guess that's why many investors prefer to hold only Bitcoin. If you know how to play your cards right, however, you can take advantage of altcoins' ups and downs to make a lot of money. It's possible to make huge profits by riding the hype, than just waiting for BTC to reach a new ATH. Before investing in an altcoin, you should do your own research. Avoid investing more than what you can't afford to lose, and there should be nothing to worry about.

They're riskier and more volatile, sure, but saying they could disappear at any moment is just ridiculous. You shouldn't lump top altcoin in with shitcoin. I honestly can't see how a project like ETH, with a market cap in the hundreds of billions, huge ecosystem and approved ETF, would just disappear out of nowhere. How? Just because it's more centralized than Bitcoin? LOL. Many Bitcoin maxis have been saying ETH would disappear any day now for years, yet Ethereum has been around for over 11 years. That does not mean ETH can't fail. But being high risk does not mean an asset is bound to disappear.

Forget Bitcoin honestly. At $80k what are you hoping to achieve next few years? a 2x return? maybe 2.5x if lucky.
Altcoins pump that much in a few weeks when they get moving and many are showing signs of it now.
To make good money in Bitcoin now you either have had to of got in it early years ago, or have big money to invest in it now.
If you are just an average person starting crypto now then need to take more risk, even XRP will outperform Bitcoin next few years.

Which altcoins do you think are gonna pump hard over the next few years? What's your basis for saying that, or are you just taking a gamble? Another question. How have your altcoins bag done in market lately? Did you actually turn a decent profit off them? There is nothing wrong with putting money into altcoins. But I don't agree with telling people to forget Bitcoin just because you think alts will bring higher returns, when there's no guarantee that's gonna happen. I mean, let's respect each other's choices.

If someone is ok using Bitcoin for a hedge against inflation then great as it will to much better than the starndad 10% people get in safe investments outside of crypto. But if you want bigger returns then you have to invest in alts now that can give you safe 5x or so. Solana for example did 30x from the low last cycle, something safe like that. Not saying 30x is guaranteed but it shows a 5x at least in alts is very likely.

Alright, let's talk about the top 20. Apart from HYPE, a newcomer to the top 20 club, which of the other 19 coins have broken their 2021 ATH? And which ones are up 80% above their previous ATH, as Bitcoin did in the last cycle? If someone is ok using Bitcoin for a hedge against inflation then great as it will to much better than the starndad 10% people get in safe investments outside of crypto. But if you want bigger returns then you have to invest in alts now that can give you safe 5x or so.
I've never denied altcoins can give you big gains. But everything comes at a price, and not every alt will actually make you money Solana for example did 30x from the low last cycle, something safe like that. Not saying 30x is guaranteed but it shows a 5x at least in alts is very likely.
Sol is a great example. But it does not prove altcoins can easily make you a fortune. It went from $300 to $8. Back then, who could say for sure it would survive and recover? How many people were actually willing to put a lot of money into SOL when it fell below $ 10 ? Altcoins can definitely pay off big , but it depends on which coin you pick and when you get in, not just buying at random.

Because of how messy the altcoins market have become, that is the reason you see some comments lumping up all altcoins and call them shitcoins, but in reality we have some coin that make exceptions to such name's because of how their have sustain their values and presence in the market, Bitcoin is the main point target but altcoins have always been doing some wonderful work by producing few potential projects, even though vas majority are also shitcoins we can easily spot the best among them at any time.

It's true that you can make a lot more money trading altcoins, than holding Bitcoin alone. At least, in the short-term. But this comes with a higher risk of loss. Especially when altcoins are much more volatile than Bitcoin. The same way you can make a lot of money, the same way you can lose it all in an instant. Not only that, but the vast majority of altcoins are not as decentralized as they claim to be. Personally, I don't think XRP will outperform BTC over the next few years. Why? Because it's a centralized "shitcoin". Only if you're talking about XRP overcoming BTC's market cap, or experiencing greater adoption worldwide. But if you mean short-term market performance (like percentage gains), then yes, it's possible. I wouldn't pour much money into XRP simply because of the risks of a single point of failure. I'd focus on a diversified portfolio of prominent altcoins, instead. Just avoid investing more than what you can't afford to lose, and there should be nothing to worry about.

The crypto market has been in the "red zone" (bearish) for quite some time now. Altcoins have been hit real hard, losing a significant portion of their value compared to Bitcoin. Uncertainty is very high right now.
It isn't so surprising because we are actually still in the first year of bearish season. I'm sure the bearish market will continue until the next year. If you still have the intention to buy more crypto coins, you should be happy since you will have a chance to buy at cheap prices again. The more decline of crypto coins, the cheapest prices you can get. This is what all buyers have been waiting for. It makes me wonder whenever now it's a good time to buy more alts (especially prominent alts) or should I wait a little longer? I hear that central banks will keep rates high (or raise them) due to the deteriorating economic situation. If that's the case, then crypto will continue to decline during the remainder of the year. What do you think?
If you have been in crypto for years, you mustn't be wonder with the current market condition. You must know it is the time for buying crypto coins whenever we have too many FUDs and bad news. It is the sign that big investors are accumulating crypto coins. Why don't we follow them? However, it is my own perspective, just don't fully trust on my approach. You must follow your own strategy in accumulating crypto coins.

People buy bitcoin for numerous of reasons, one of them is that it's probably not going to do -95% drop. I believe you lose your money with XRP, but i know you would disagree, so i don't even try. But anyone listening your advice about risk right now, i remember when you were talking about taking risk back in time and that you would happily buy $Trump coin if it drops to $14. I remember because that sort of weird thought process is hard to forget.

Of course, the stability of price growth is one of the reasons that people prefer investing in Bitcoin over altcoins. Once it drops to -95%, it is probably no longer called as Bitcoin. People may view Bitcoin similar as altcoins. I believe you lose your money with XRP, but i know you would disagree, so i don't even try. But anyone listening your advice about risk right now, i remember when you were talking about taking risk back in time and that you would happily buy $Trump coin if it drops to $14.
XRP is still one of good crypto coins, I don't think he will lose money by investing in XRP. But if he invests money in TRUMP coin, it is very possible to lose money because it is just a memecoin although it resembles the name of Trump president. Honestly, I never invest in TRUMP coin because I don't see any value of this memecoin. It just became hype because of TRUMP armies. I remember because that sort of weird thought process is hard to forget.
What makes it weird? It isn't weird that many people invest in memecoins. They are dreaming to rich instantly with memecoins, they are motivated by some people who claimed success in memecoin investment.

Honestly, I never invest in TRUMP coin because I don't see any value of this memecoin. It just became hype because of TRUMP armies. I guess we disagree on xrp then. In my eyes, they haven't got any further from the hopes they used to have on getting adopted. And imho such a corporate coin is against the whole cryptocurrency ethos. I remember because that sort of weird thought process is hard to forget.
What makes it weird? It isn't weird that many people invest in memecoins. They are dreaming to rich instantly with memecoins, they are motivated by some people who claimed success in memecoin investment. I have nothing against memecoins in general, but even if i ignore the moral aspects of funding blatant corruption. It was a product hyped by world's biggest liar and a scammer. So i wouldn't even need to know tokenomics of it to see it as a problematic investment. And in terms of value, as you said, you wouldn't invest it in when it's $1.50 and has a very high marketcap, don't you find it weird that someone wanted to catch the knife when it was death spiral to $14? People who make money with memecoins, don't make that money because they are memecoins, but because they are lucky enough to pick undervalued coins. Whole time i have been in cryptos i have picked and hodled something like 4 coins or less (can't remember) that made over 1000x gains because they started from being a microcap. And i very much doubt that anyone could just get motivated from that, because there was no skill involved. It's like being motivated by a scratch card winner. Only very small fraction of the investors are successful if they find right one and enter low enough. Rest of the people are just exit liquidity or have invested into rugpulls. Also, amount of failed tokens launched daily is exponentially higher now.
