Well i have seen the trending news regarding the speech made by the First Lady of Nigeria, i am also aware about the poor turnout of things ranging from poor insecurity, economic hardship etc under her husband’s administration but i would want to comment by saying that i feel that the First Lady was misunderstood, she only sighted an example in her speech not like she was saying they should do it, she said that they are doing there part to help savage the economic situation by giving grants to women in other for the women to start certain small scale businesses, she then added that the women shouldn’t have any excuse because there are certain businesses that might not require so much capital to start, that was when she used Akara and Kulikuli as an example, mind you she has spent majority of her life in the Western part of Nigeria, those of them from the West or who have spent time in the West see such business as lucrative, so many poor women have been known to use such business to support their families over the years, that is why she gave that example, the First Lady have provided grants to the women from what i heard this money shared is between 500million to a Billion naira, to me the women should choose their own preferred business and start, they shouldn’t focus on what the First Lady said because it was only an example she made, Tinubu administration has failed no doubt but i don’t really feel we should castigate the First Lady simply because she cited an example, mind you she is not the president, no matter the good decisions she might want to take to help Nigerians will still need approval from the president, hence, Nigerians should know that she is only doing the little she can within her capacity, let Nigerians focus more on voting her husband out come 2027 rather than this because i only see this as a distraction.
I agree with you but the First Lady was only giving an example of low capital businesses which many western women has used to survive for years.Grants to women are better than nothing and she’s not even the president but the backlash is fair though.
The economy is too harsh now, food prices alone is killing small businesses. The honest truth is that we need real relief not just example. Frying akara is never a wrong business but we Nigerians deserves something better. You can imagine a graduate receiving 60k-70k as monthly allowance, that’s an abomination.
