Why Youth Unemployment Remains High In Many Countries

It is clear that we are going to see a lot more of this problems to continue, we should realize that jobs are not as many as our population.

The whole "we are going down on population and that is bad" is not reality, we have enough people in the world, we are going to see a period where all of these old people die, and we are not going to have enough people left, and then we are not going to have any type of situation where the employment will not be an issue for the long term.

From what I observe there are jobs, but people dont want to apply for them. Problem is not in lack of job, but in no wish to work hard for little money. Or some people does not find profession attractive because it is not prestige. I am sure that positions of garbage cleaners, janitors, or any job that is connected with dirt, work outside at any weather are always available. There are not as many positions in cozy office with free coffee behind PC with large salary and zero duties as people want.

This question should be directed to the African Nations. And in my own understanding it is because of the greediness and corrupt nature of the leaders because a good leader knows when to provide jobs for it citizens. If the population increase, as a leader, you can also expand the industries to accommodate the work force. Africa has a lot of things to do but here is no industry to work. And those are some of the reasons unemployment is very high. The money that supposed used to establish work for the people is siphon by the politicians.

Unemployment is one of the things that I think will not disappear from the surface of the Earth, this will always exist in every country with a problem that may be difficult to overcome and including with developing countries as well.
Unemployment will always exist because even though the government has provided jobs not everyone has the awareness and wants to work because there are people who live with a bad mindset like not wanting to work. It is fortunate that people who have a government with good performance can pay attention to their people by providing decent jobs, but not my country.

You are right. In general, there is no shortage of jobs and the market can provide enough work for everyone. However, there is nothing wrong with being selective about jobs. Because work is not simply a means of earning a living, it also largely determines a person's time, mental health and career.

Accepting a job outside your field, low pay, or in a toxic environment simply out of fear of unemployment may solve the immediate problem. But the consequences are that skills fade away over time, career growth is limited, and worse still, you could lose your entire future.
Its a huge trade off, and not everyone is willing to accept it. Having a job is important, but having the right job is equally important.

It's the schools that seem to be the problem. It's because there are fewer funds when it comes to education, but more funds when it comes to investments. Teachers are actually upgrading and using technology to make it easy for them to teach. I bet they can also adapt to the new style of teaching, but the government agency that controls the way of educating students won't let them. They are still using the old way to teach and the same books that may not be necessary for the new jobs today.

That's why you can see a lot of youth today becoming streamers, game developers, and online sellers. It's because they see how tough it is to get a job with an employer, and most of them have the perspective of being the boss themselves. It's cool, but it's not for everyone.

Job outside my field, low payment and toxic environment also are reasons why youth are unemployed, even though can do those jobs. Gen Z are too much used to cozy life. They are not ready for difficulties, they dont want anything difficult (physically). Imo if someone is seeking for a job, then he will take anything that suits him now, but will keep on searching and change job once he finds better one. Youth from the start search perfect job, and that does not mean they want to build a career. They want easy, cozy, high paid job without having an experience. In fact some of them are not even looking for a job, they want job to find them...

What a detailed answer, to add to what you have said, leaders has to have vision before they can think of creating more employment, my question is, how many African leaders are ready to bring in new investors with local content signed without trying to play politics, many west African country don't have good leaders, we only have people whose reason for grabbing power is to enrich themselves, embezzle public fund and create more problems in the country when citizens stand up to ask for their right, in my country, I don't think our president have any problem with the unemployment that has down on us, he is just after politics, so how will expanding the work force come to his mind, in developed country the government don't provide all the job, they create a friendly environment for investors to come and do their business and buy so doing, the firms will recruit the citizens into the work force but the government we have in my country don't have any plans for such.

Building a skill is very important, as not every person will get a job or surely get employed by an organization or company. Building a skill can even help individuals earn more money than when they even work under someone. One very good thing about building a skill is that, no matter the amount of people that have that same skill, in as much as you are very good at what you do, one can still earn good money from it, which can not be compared to the labor market where the population of people are more than the job opportunities, making it hard for youths to get employed.

Exactly, in this current economy relying on getting a job because you are a graduate or you feel like you are qualified to get one can be very risky mostly in developing countries because vacancies are actually very limited while the number of job seekers keep increasing everyday and thats why having a profitable skill is the best because it saves the stress of looking for a job and gives you the stress over your own income.

The way things are going currently, i think the best way to survive in this era is to have a very good skills which you think is needed, and again is better we think of the course that were studying, one day my father was advising me that the best course to study in this era is to study the course that even though after your finish you can be able to practice. Since then I make sure I get it correctly by choosing the right course that even though I finish I will not wait at home for anybody to employ me.

We just have to think wisely and that is what I normally tell most of my younger ones that, they should never imagine finishing school and getting a job because that have keep so many people lazy in looking for alternatives for themselves rather they continue waiting for the government job which cannot come.

Colleges teach old books, but companies now want AI, digital marketing, and practical skills.
So degree alone is not enough to get a job now.

They only hire people who already worked before.
But freshers can’t get experience if no one gives them a first chance.

Freshers cost more time
Training a new person takes time and a senior’s help.
That’s why bosses prefer a 30+ person who can start work at once.

Jobs are in big cities
Most good offices and IT firms are in known cities.
If you live in a small town, you have to move or stay jobless.

References matter a lot
Many jobs are given through known people, not CVs.
If you don’t know someone inside, your CV often gets ignored.

The problem is not that universities do not teach new stuff. They do, in fact they are the ones who are on the very top of "new stuff". So if you want to learn about cutting edge topics, university is the best place. The problem is that nowadays there are too many graduates with bachelors and masters degrees and not enough jobs. Or rather, the jobs keep demanding more and more, due to the oversupply of degree holders.

So yesterdays masters degree is worth as much as todays PhD+20 years of experience.

There is no doubt about that, but you can't expect someone to complete their higher education to start their career working as a garbage cleaner, can you? Put yourself in that place, and think again.

You have spent so many years of your life completing your education only with the hope and dream to finally land a good job and have a good career, and you end up finding out that now when you are ready to get employed, there are no positions based on your level of education or abilities and if you want to earn a honest living, you will need to work as a janitor or a garbage cleaner to earn enough money for eating food two or three times a day and that's it. Would you like it? You won't, obviously.

So when we say that there is a lack of employment, we are not specifically talking about all sorts of employment opportunities because there will obviously be need for workers everywhere, but a lack of employment means that there aren't enough suitable jobs for people who deserve that kind of jobs. Youth unemployment is when the youth gains the necessary skills, but still end up getting no proper opportunities to use those skills and then end up doing stuff they shouldn't be doing but are compelled to do because they don't have a choice.
