One hard lesson I have learn early was not to lose more than the amount I can't afford to use for fun, that's why I always have my gambling allocation separated from the money that I need for other things. Don't be too greedy in gambling I think you made yourself greedy in gambling that greed defeated you. And why would you think being overconfident would prevent you losing in the first place? And i feel like you are confusing something, because self-discipline can create confidence, but confidence can't create discipline. It's not a proof of self-discipline either.

But don't worry, as you will make mistakes no matter how strong you are, it's an important part of learning. It's just important to recognize what triggered you, so you can reflect on the problem.

Also, you need to understand in your core that there's nothing wrong with losing, because that's not creating problems. Losing your budget and losing more then you can afford aren't even connected, because only one of them is and actual problem.

Its hard to control yourself from loosing, but you can control your by betting minimum amount to avoid maximum loss. What OP described is a typical example of how newbie gamblers think or some over ambitious gamblers.
