When I receive bitcoin on my Electrum on Android I will not be notified but when I open the app, I will be notified which is not necessary again. I have a wallet that if I receive unconfirmed coin, I will see an unconfirmed transaction notification. When the bitcoin get confirmed, I will also see that the transaction is confirmed in another notification. When I send bitcoin on the wallet, I will see a notification that the bitcoin has been sent when it is confirmed, all without opening the wallet. If Electrum can make its Android app notification to be like this will be good. The only accurate one that I have is when the bitcoin is confirmed after I send, Electrum will notify me without opening of the app.

I don't think Electrum mobile has an option to display notifications on background even if you scroll through the application settings I don't think you're gonna find a button for it either. Probably it could be possible if on your mobile if you use android if you turned on run on background and allow notifications in background.

Personally I haven't actually tried it and that is mostly because I personally also like the idea that I don't get notifications unless I open the app and sync with existing node.

No its not actually possibly with Mobile electrum in fact someone raised such suggestions last here and the developer hasn’t responded yet

I think this is actually intentional omission since there is some risk on it with the most obvious one been the fact that the wallet has to be running active on the background. So personally I don’t think even on your device settings even if you turn it on it will actually be possible since the feature is not even supported yet.

Personally i actually like it that this way though, for recommendations though this is available on BlueWallet mobile version

But if you send bitcoin on your Electrum Android, you will get the notification that the coin has been sent if you do not open the app.

If the option is there, it can be under the settings to be disabled or enabled or it can be done under the app settings.

I think we are similar; you are pointing to where if you are receiving coins into Electrum and you can't get any notification, unlike when you make a transaction from the Electrum wallet, if it gets 1 confirmation, you get a notification.

The only thing that didn't notify me was if I received a new transaction coming to my Electrum wallet on Android, and I only get the notification once I open the Electrum wallet.

I think the reason for this is that Electrum is not always connected to the servers/nodes since Electrum needs to sync, and it only happens once you open the Electrum wallet. I don't see any feature or button on the settings to change this behavior. It does not exist yet. Even I think it's running in the background; it does not show a notification when receiving BTC.

Yes I know, it is the wallet that I am comparing it with.

I toggled over to the app settings a couple minutes ago and surprisingly notifications were actually turned off by default. What I'm gonna try to do is turn it on when I'm expecting an incoming transaction and see if it works. But normally Id actually prefer to have it off though.

Yeah that's a very valid point. Literally anytime you visit the app it always resyncs which suggests that it's not constantly connected to nodes my assumption is because ELECTRUM wasn't really built defaultly to be a hot wallet.

As far as I know, push notifications require a such separate wallet list sub-server. I don't think Electrum, with its privacy philosophy, will add this feature anytime soon.
The solution is to simply use an external balance monitoring tool like a Telegram bot, but at the risk of having your address stored on the developer's server (unless you build your own notification bot).

I will prefer not to use any telegram not for this reason, there is a wallet that I am using that has the characteristics but I am still using Electrum also on my mobile phone because it is a very good wallet. It is not up to what I need to sacrifice my privacy for.

My best guess is that you have no other option but to build your own server and notification tools. However, as the backend, you'll need address information (or some other form) as an identifier to monitor transactions and send notifications to your app as quickly as possible. This mechanism is likely also implemented in other wallets you currently use (cmiiw).

Because if so, create a watch-only wallet version of your current Electrum wallet there so that you can receive notifications.

But your privacy depends on how that wallet handles the extended pubKey or addresses.
(not that Electrum is private to begin with if you're using public servers)

As you seem to care about your privacy, it may be worth mentioning that unless you run your own server, even in electrum, you connect to servers provided by third parties and they can link your bitcoin addresses to your IP address.

Then he can just do what I said to get notifications.

If he has his own server or preferred one, then it's perfect since he can connect Blue Wallet to that same Electrum server.

As you seem to care about your privacy, it may be worth mentioning that unless you run your own server, even in electrum, you connect to servers provided by third parties and they can link your bitcoin addresses to your IP address.

Routing the connection traffic through Tor proxy can also help with privacy to some extent when connecting to a public server.

At least, the provider can’t know the real ip behind a wallet even if they can see all other things about such wallet .Okay for network level imo ..

Depending on the privacy OP wants, it  still go way down to UTXO and txn   level, maintaining parallel connection from multiple source to prevent privacy leak .. Network level is still  the only problem that can still link everything so you’re still right about running a node to create a private Electrum server

A Private server will only be useful for future privacy if the wallet itself already connected continuously to a public server unless he creates a new wallet and find a way to cut off trace and connection to his old histories .

General public  privacy is usually enough though..
