NBA is not free from rig

This is another sad one coming from the NBA because I've been hearing about a number of rigs from that sport which is not a good thing for it's reputation which would result to a lack of trust for bettors in the NBA. I understand that these rigs are mainly conspired with players in the league despite how rich they are they will still want to cheat to become richer which is greed, I wonder if they consider that if they are caught that it would ruin their careers and reputations. People are just too desperate to make quick money despite how rich they are, it is probably as a result of ostentatious lifestyles that they live and to mantain the lifestyles they will have to cheat to make extra money to fund their luxury and wastes.

Rigged games are very difficult to prove. And I don't understand the basis for the charges. Was it simply because players showed abnormal statistics? But abnormal statistics can have, so to speak, an organic origin. In my opinion, to prove such serious charges, the prosecution's case must be very compelling. This includes conversation recordings, abnormal statistics, extremely atypical gaming behavior, and being caught red-handed while transferring money. The best evidence is when an undercover law enforcement agent is pretending to be involved in the scheme.

Indeed so that needs deep investigation and carefully because those people who rigged will careful doing their activity. They will not let others know what they did but if someone know what they did, they will not tolerate and that could be a serious matters. But I believe that rigging case will happens in many and not just in one sport but we just don't know where that happens. And we as users should be careful when analyzing because that is numbers which we don't know from where it is.

I'm not an NBA fan but I've seen the same case for several players in recent years and the accusation is always the same that these players expect more income and use this as a form of cheating from performance and other things so that gambling can be manipulated.

But it's strange that this kind of condition is always repeated because this case only adds to the ranks of some players who do the same thing.  This will raise new assumptions whether in the end the money given by gambling is always much bigger so they take the most risky steps with their careers? Because not a few players who experience this are not players who are considered ordinary.

In addition it seems that there needs to be stricter regulations for the NBA if cases like this continue to recur in almost every year of course this shows that their regulations still feel loose to me.

It's been proven few times already that NBA games aren't free from rigging and those rigs aren't always from NBA itself but from the players, I can remember a news in 2024 or 2025 about a NBA player that was caught in the act, he is a popular NBA player and he rigged his own neck or something similar, he was later caught and get dealt with, I'm sure that was his career thrown out of the window for good, he is never coming back, so I am not surprised.

There is a lot of money to be made of you can get an NBA player to engage in rigging, especially if you keep it very subtle. However the downfall of these schemes is always getting too greedy or trying to do it too many times, because it can start to b come obvious. Any slightly out of the ordinary bet, especially when a lot of money is involved, is going to be heavily scrutinized by bookmakers. They'll monitor accounts, especially when it comes to player specific bets, as they are the ones who end up handing a lot of money over. I'm not sure that many players would be doing this, as their salaries and endorsements can already be quite high, plus there is a massive stigma against cheaters who are found.

It really feels crazy to see bookies given odds to teams according to the stats of the teams and as the only strategies bettors can find data's in analysing the games, it then tends to be that non of those provided data's will be valid enough to predict the games outcomes.
Meanwhile you wouldn't know that the game has been rigged with the players of the event such as the sports colliding with the bookie just to make extra money.
Considering this reflection as you may say Op, there's nothing we bettors can do about it other than just wish to bet against the crowd that had already been designed to manipulate the games.

This phenomenon is called the human factor. Unfortunately, all large organizations are susceptible to it. The good news is that humanity goes the right way and we see less and less of such cases. But eliminate then completely is impossible. This case doesn't show that the NBA is somehow worse than other organizations. It only shows that people in the free world are not afraid of being killed for telling the truth.

Although, the corruption is more in those small leagues but it doesn't mean that the big leagues are completely free of this corruption, some players can be greedy, you know, and they will possibly partake in such event, just to earn extra money.

I think in the future, bookies might remove player props because they can be abused.

If a player sees his name as part of the betting market, he can manipulate his own outcome and either bet against himself or bet on himself. That is easy money for him because it is easier to manipulate one person’s performance compared to manipulating a whole team. So if you ask me, I think it is better to just have the basic markets like over/under, point spread, and moneyline. Those markets are less likely to be manipulated.

You know I always suspect when big swings happen on lines of over under. Like a player can score like crazy and then just need 2 points,,, then he blanks the whole rest of the game. Too easy to bet on yourself now especially with Poly and what not,,, heck I would do it if I could honestly since I am anyway playing a rigged game

I have actually thought about this too and it makes me wonder if it is done intentionally, there are games that a player just needs a single point but for some reasons that point us refused to be scored. When players bet on themselves they do everything they can on the pitch to stick according to their plan. As an athlete or NBA star doing this comes with consequences when it is being spotted, some have been kicked of their team because if this.

Like I said I would do it if I was a player like that, BUT I would only bet on myself in a positive way,,, as in, like to score 100+ or score a goal or something like that.

I do not think it is ever possible for me to intentionally not do things. Stop scoring, stop playing well, miss on purpose. Yellow card on purpose,,, but I guess this trait is not possible in people anyway not meant to ever be mentally different to the requirement that world class athletes need

I think it is less noticeable in basketball than in football, because a player can score 20 points more or less and it may still look normal. But in soccer, scoring 1 goal already makes you look like the hero of the team. That is why I think rigging is more rampant in basketball because of that. But if the refs are the ones dictating the rig, that is more dangerous because usually the target is the public, or those bettors who love to bet on the favorites.

You know it is easy to manipulate the point spread and total by just calling or not calling fouls.

Of course, not only the world of NBA gambling, other sports betting is also not free from the risk of manipulation, whether it is involvement from inside or outside, NBA sports betting is often used as a field for game manipulation, but it is not completely free from cheating.

That is the real reason, but would bookies adjust it and remove those offers? No, because regardless of the outcome, they are still making money. It is worth worrying about for honest bettors who really study the game, because it becomes useless when the outcome is already predetermined.

I suspect they are worst, but i don't see an evidence to prove it.

This is not the first time I'm reading something about rigging in NBA, there have been so many reports of that. If you compare NBA with soccer, you will see that it is even easier to rig NBA than to rig soccer especially with the introduction of the VAR system. If they can still rig football despite these innovation aimed at checkmating that, they NBA will not be excepted from rigging because the people that rig these matches are big and influential and can manipulate many things.

When they say that sports betting can be rigged, I always look at it from two perspective. The players or the referee. These are the two possible people that can do that but I doubt if the bookies can do that because I believe they don't know the outcome of the game. Malik Beasley loss those millions because of his personal greedy.

And I’m pretty sure he is not the only one doing that. There could still be many active NBA players now who are doing it without being noticed, and if they do it successfully, they can make millions easily since sports betting is a billion-dollar industry.

By spreading their bets across different sportsbooks, they can successfully place a bet without making it too obvious.

I've always been of the opinion that stats aren't the gateway to winning in sports betting, and this is because I've come across people, bettors who would spend several hours in a day or night researching and studying stats of different players in an up coming games, this enables them make the best informed decision in choosing who to place their bets on, but still, this same bets will end up losing and the bettor losing their money..

It's insane really, I've lived with in a single room wit someone who was a chronic bettor, many a nights he doesn't sleep, he will be up studying and arranging games for parley the next day, he was working but he placed more value to betting than his job, and a the end, he would end up losing most of those parley..
This is why from early, I believed there was more to winning in sports betting than simply depending on studying players stats and all..
And later on, I learnt that no matter how big a league is, manipulation is always present somewhere though hard to notice.

It is not only a lesson about how rigging and how players can become co-conspirators within such schemes in order to earn a lot of money, it is also a lesson on how reckless gambling and gambling addiction can make even the most successful player to resort to crime in order to recover money they lost due to their gambling problems.
Those guys who play within the NBA already make a lot of money by playing within such leagues, the fact this player who is getting indicted because of what he allegedly did decided to risk his career and possibly the career of his team mates to recover money he voluntarily gambled away tells much about his mentality and morals.

They say people who is rich never gamble and those who do are scarce, and perhaps it is because those who a very business oriented mind realize how powerful and tempting gambling addiction can be...

Let us see if this turns into a bigger scandal to the NBA in the future.
