This is one thing I do not lie about predictions market because an insider could likely leak the information in respect to favor them or their friends including relatives.

That is not a prediction market, that is sports betting. And yes, they can leak information, but that does not mean it is already an automatic win.

That information can only be used to analyze the game and give you an advantage as a bettor. For instance, if one player is not 100% healthy and he is a starter, his performance might decline. So you can bet against that team or against that player prop because you believe you have a better chance of winning.

What I am scared of is players abusing this kind of deal. A non-KYC online sports bookie or a prediction market can actually be used to avoid being traced. Use friends or faraway relatives to place the bet. It will obviously be at player props for the player who will do it.
If he is one of the first five on the team, he can actually cover those player props if he wants to. Let's say "below 5" in rebounds. If the player knew that he already had 4, what he could do is get far away from it whenever the opponent shoots. Just catching that live ball is already considered a rebound, even if your feet are landed. Back to the cheating, what they can do is just avoid the ball and make time run. Making errors is also a good strategy. The player will be benched, but the stats will continue. It will still be paid.

The main problem is, these few cases have been "proven", but I am 1000% sure they are not the exception. For a couple of guys being found out (cause they acted stupid) I am sure there are hundreds or maybe even thousands of cases that were never made public or simply went under the radar. Obviously big name players don't need to do that but guys with small contract might get the idea very quick, especially these days where betting anonymously is fairly easy.
Also, often it's not only greed to do it for the money but because the person in question has some debt or whatever with people you don't want to be in debt to, like the ref in the past that was a gambling addict and had to pay of the debt by throwing games.

You know I always suspect when big swings happen on lines of over under. Like a player can score like crazy and then just need 2 points,,, then he blanks the whole rest of the game. Too easy to bet on yourself now especially with Poly and what not,,, heck I would do it if I could honestly since I am anyway playing a rigged game Tongue

If you will notice that over the years, the NBA has consistently banned for life several players due to game rigging/fixing due to sports-betting and gambling-related schemes.

Unfortunately, these kinds of news are common given that there are high stakes and actual money are involved in the process. When you are in a position where you can at least influence the outcome of the game, you would be somehow tempted to do something and bet against or for yourself in order to meet that desired odds when you gamble.

Of course, it destroys the integrity of the sports but it’s definitely impossible to prevent these kinds of things from happening. While we may see some games were players intentionally miss free and easy shots, still, it’s somehow difficult to draw the line if they’re rigging the game or not.

All we can do is speculate, because even if some players get caught in the long run, there is still no assurance that the remaining players are honest.

When there is money at stake or an opportunity to benefit, some people will still think of rigging things in their favor. That cannot be fully eliminated, so the league has to keep more eyes on it and spot those who are doing it.

They should also impose bigger penalties, including jail time and a lifetime ban from professional basketball, not only in the NBA but in any professional league.

yeah many people who are in authority or in a situation where they have a huge effect on the game sometimes want to get more than what they are earning.  Reason why they ar tempted to do game fixing.

They should also impose bigger penalties, including jail time and a lifetime ban from professional basketball, not only in the NBA but in any professional league.

I highly agree on this but I think a person should be given a chance to redeem themselves. Depending on the severity of the offense, I think a fine, banning the player in the local league where the player commits the mistakes for a number of years, and giving a warning to be fully banned to the profesional basketball on the second offense is much better than shutting opportunities for those players that commits first offense.

A fine for sports rigging? I would not agree with that because it is a very serious offense.

It is like killing the integrity of the sport, and it will not only affect the player or the team, but also the league and the sport as a whole. We know the NBA is the biggest basketball league in the world, so that kind of act is unforgivable.

For me, they are betraying the fans who expect that what we are watching is real and fair.

(....)
By spreading their bets across different sportsbooks, they can successfully place a bet without making it too obvious.

So the reflection is, don’t trust the stats too much. Sometimes, you also have to look at the rigged angle.
This stats manipulation could also affect some matches; even if a gambler didn't place any bets on stats of players but on the match, it might not be direct manipulation of the match, but it will still affect the match.
This is crazy; no doubt why gambling in the US is really strict. Plus even how huge you already earning as NBA player, it's still enough and they still have the chance to gamble and take advantage.

That last statement brings weight, even how huge the salary of a certain players they can't avoid placing their bets, at the end of the day they need to purposely manipulate the game, though even the intension is not to affect the main results but in term of stats or the handicap it will affects those gamblers who bets for such odds, and players who participate for this kind of manipulation either with their own or a part of shadow groups they really messed it up to earned decent profits.

But the effect gives them devastating effect on their career and also on their financial state. Because those proven players receive sever penalty which it affects their career.

This is what other player including those young one need to look at, then better not to do any crazy actions like trying to manipulate their stats or anything illegal. Since those temporary joy they get will give them more bigger problems in future.

Although its hard to point out if they have group, but maybe there are several people will ask some ideas about possible actions done to increase their chance to win.

For me, possibly that they are a group of people who are engaged to this kind of activities, though can be done alone but messing with your stats just to earned decent amount quickly while risking your entire career, not sure if what's inside the mind of those individuals, either a player or anyone who are involve to this league, they are all gaining instantly but once they've got caught consequences are not as easy as what they think it can be but a career end and imprisonment are what they'll gonna face.

Minus all the players taking bribes and working with bookies we can look at the organization itself.

A lot of articles written about it by former NBA referees also and even we have seen recordings of what officials come and say.

They do not say,,, make sure this team loses, they say,,, it is not good for the league if Team A and Team B are not in the final, it is not a good look.

And this is how NBA is corrupt and false without being blatantly so. Bigger and worse than the players honestly.

Whenever I come across stuffs like this, I’m made to believe that the biggest factor that leads people into these kind of behaviors is greed. The opportunity to make quick and easy money can literally cloud a person’s judgement and making them not to think clearly about the consequences and potential risks of their actions as all they can think about at that moment would be the potential rewards in front of them.  But the moment they are caught the damage is usually far worse than whatever they could’ve ever gained from such a mischievous behavior.
