Abnormal gambling behavior is going above your budget and consistently losing all the time
If you're gambling for anything more than entertainment you may have a problem

I think it is impossible to lose all the time, unless the game is rigged, but losing most of the time is possible.

And within that line, there are times I do stupid bets, so I can say I have a problem with gambling sometimes. There are also times I am still happy even when losing, and that is me being a normal gambler. But those who are addicted can win sometimes, yet most of the time they still end up losing because of greed. And when you are greedy in a game where you don’t have an edge, the obvious outcome will happen, a loss.
Oh ok if that's what you think then
Some people go on 0-10 losing streaks and then win 1
So they are 1-10; yes you are right

If you notice that you are giving more time to gambling than before, you need to take a break because it shows that you're getting hooked. Also, when you take big risk in your bet by betting with big amount of money in order to make profit, you should be careful because it shows you are chasing your losses. Have self control over your gambling activities and stop at the right time. Accept your losses.
Oh yes, that is another abnormal behavior that also need to be constantly put on check. Giving more time to gamble than usual, it's important we are able to point it out when is getting out of hands to take a pause and  to avoid crossing some certain lines that can later start hunting us in future. However, gambling shouldn't be given too much attention as if it some kind of business that fix our daily bills. And again, gamble shouldn't be treated with so much desperation. Being too eger to hit it big, because this can triggered addiction in most case and make some start gambling as if his whole life is based on it. Perhaps, this also an abnormal behavior in gamble that need urgent attention too.

Let's make it what everyone of us will benefit, in this discussion by being realistic about it, just as the title says, the aim of creating this thread is to help us discuss on some possible means we can use to easily dictect for an abnormal gambling behavior in us or from others around us, this might be an eye opener to some that are already getting it wrong or try to adjust from one thing to the other in gambling.

If you are going to make it more practical, you can use a case scenario or ourself as an example in explaining how we were able to detect for an abnormal gambling situation and what really transpired or happen later, this will make us to have maximum sensitivity to how we are gambling so as to put a check on our behavior as well in it on an occasional basis in order to improve on areas we have already been liking behind that could lead to abnormal behaviors.

One minute they have money and the next minute they are broke, you really can't tell what they use the money for, it's a sign of gambling addiction, someone was admitted in an hospital and he still used the hospital bill on gambling while in the hospital, he doesn't even care about his own life, the rate of gambling addiction in my country is getting out of hands, they are mostly men and very limited numbers of women, I'm glad they are coming out to talk about it, without revealing their faces, they want help, they have accepted that something is very wrong with them.

“Abnormal” is subjective. Something that seems abnormal to you doesn’t necessarily mean it’s abnormal for everyone else. I think the more appropriate term is addiction. In gambling, what is often perceived as abnormal behavior is usually better described as addiction.

Now, how can a person know if he or she is slowly becoming addicted to gambling? Let me share my personal experience.

I had a friend who used to gamble with me. We both played casino games and bet on sports. However, I avoided casino games because I was losing more money there and only placed the occasional bet on sports events. My friend, on the other hand, didn’t stop. His addiction became so severe that he even gambled away the money he had saved to pay his younger brother’s college fees.

One of the strongest signs of gambling addiction is when you start gambling with money that’s needed for your day-to-day living or other essential expenses. So, gamble in moderation and take occasional breaks.

I personally always feel if my actions are abnormal is when I keep thinking about gambling and the steps I have to take during gambling when I do other activities and this I consider as a situation that can be an alert 1 for myself so that I do not touch gambling for a while because if I indulge in it then I could lose a lot of things and the most likely is the balance in the gambling wallet that is still left.

If we are in a bet and we bet more aggressively and quite different from what we do in normal gambling this is also one of the signs that I am not too good from a psychological point of view so as much as possible I will try to stop and divert to other activities first.  For this case it is a little difficult but this is the point of trying to discipline ourselves in the gambling that we do.

Probably I can say that a guy or someone with abnormal behaviour in gambling once he is way playing over his time before. Anyone can chill out on casino and have a short stint on playing and having a good time but when you noticed he skipped some real life events or more than usual time given to gambling then thats the time you could say or justify that he somehow exhibit an abnormal behaviour.

Have a gambling budget, let it be a very small part of your income like 1 or 2%. If you are going beyond the gambling budget, know that something is not right and which is indiscipline gambling habit.

If someone around you do not discuss about gambling with you, you might not know if he is going beyond non addictive stage. But most friends always discuss how they spend on gambling with their other good friends. You can know something is not right, especially anytime you see the person pressing phone or laptop and had a mood swing from happy to moody.

Nicely said boss, unfortunately many gamblers will ignore this because 1% of their income isn't even big enough so no matter how much they win with the percentage it won't get them anywhere.

I'd say it's a big disease for anyone to believe that gambling is the only way that they can progress in life, if you are progressing before and you found gambling then you decide to divert your attention into fully gambling you will likely go back 10 steps.

That 1% isn't even about gambling but everything else, if what you risk in investments are just a percentage or two of your entire balance you will be fine with whatever happens later.

Best advice ever.

It will be very difficult to tell if gambler is acting abnormal if we dont know him well in person. What for us looks abnormal, for that person might be usual behavior, tactics or he is just stupid and act like that. Cant complain on a person if he is just stupid Cheesy Everything that a person does what we do different is abnormal.

Anyway, among abnormal behavior I would point out when person looks lost or confused. That will mean he is new to that game or is a totally newbie. And in that case I think we are allowed to act to explain him the game (or gambling) or talkin him away from playing, as he is about to start losing money quick. In other cases I would not bother other person or pay attention to his behavior.

That’s right. Only a gambler who’s already experiencing gambling abnormalities would begin to allocate time meant for other important things to gambling. A lot of people often believe that the only real risk in gambling is the risk of losing money, but they forget that time itself is another valuable commodity, in fact I’m not sure I’ll be wrong to say that time is even more valuable that money in this case and in most cases. Just as responsible gamblers are expected to manage their finances, they’re equally required to manage time too.

Someone who playing gambling more than others will detect as abnormal gambling behavior. He just spend his time in gambling and not doing other activities. That should makes other people around him needs to ask him or spying on him what exactly he does.

If your friend deposits money many times and that is more than his withdrawals, you should curious if that is abnormal gambling behavior. Other people should suspect him and check his gambling account to see what is happening. But that is not easy to detect abnormal gambling behavior, some people can hides from others.

One of the most obvious early signs is if gambling ceases to be fun and becomes a way to make up for losses. That is typically where issue starts and most people do not realize that they are doing it, in real time. Another is when you are thinking about gambling at random times of day, not while you are playing matches or actually gambling, but during work, conversation, lying in bed, etc. That mind interruption is red flag that it is taking up more room than it should. Another red flag that can be familiar to most people is hiding bets from family or close friends. Need to hide the amount of money spent and the regularity of betting could be first clue that something is wrong. Loss chasing and hiding this behavior typically is when things take fast turn for worse. It is important to catch either one early.

I don't think this requires help from other players, it's actually quite simple. If someone starts gambling every day, begins placing larger bets, looks for money to keep gambling when they run out, or immediately makes another deposit after losing the previous one, these are all clear warning signs that they need to stop and walk away from gambling. I think this has been discussed on the forum so many times, that everyone here is already aware of these warning signs.

Exactly, once gambling cease to be fun, its then better for one to pause or take a break from gambling, so that they will not make any hasty decisions that is going to land them in problems or in behaving abnormal, as it might not be of any good thing to them but the result will be worst, as it will starting affect their lives little by little and before they know it, it will gets heavier. So its best for everyone that doesn't want to be in that situation to get rid of whatever thing that will make them to act abnormally in gambling.

Having a budget is the best way to control one's gambling and it's something every gambler should be doing, whether you are on a winning streak or not once you hit your limit then the best thing to do is to stop, not stopping is why a lot of people have lost themselves to gambling and have not been able to even recover till date, if people had budgets for their gambling and actually sticked to it then addiction won't be as prevalent as it is today.

How do you Detect for Abnormal Gambling Behavior

I think "abnormal gambling behavior" is when someone plays with money they can afford to lose. So if you are a responsible player and you play with money you can afford to spend on entertainment, everything is just fun & games. There's no abnormal gambling playing style... You should be free to play as you like to play! All-ins on slots or sports betting, crazy autobetting strategies in some in-house games, just relax and play as you want to play it... It's your money, it's your choice.

If you can't relax and play as you want, maybe you should rethink depositing & gambling.

If for example someone is constantly on their phone or devices doing analysis and betting or gambling at all time even when they have serious matters at hand, then it's obviously an abnormal gambling behavior which is visible without you being told, some people (employees) gamble even at work, while some students do so in class or during exam period, that's how you detect abnormal behavior, when the person can not control their desir for gambling, it's abnormal and should be tackled immediately before it gets out of hand. If you start risking with an amount that you can not afford to lose, then it's abnormal, I did that in the past and it didn't end so well, so as for many others. Someone with those gambling habits should know that it can be harmful.

Based on what you’ve said, that’s clearly a sign that someone is already addicted, and usually someone who is addicted will go to extremes exceeding normal or reasonable limits driven by their distorted thinking. Of course, someone who is addicted will usually engage in deviant behavior perhaps doing things they shouldn’t, such as stealing other people’s money, robbing or similar acts with the intention of using the proceeds for gambling. I myself have noticed changes in my friend, who has been increasingly seeking out digital currency which of course, leads to the online gambling he engages in and he even frequently sells off small assets he owns. I can’t help but think that he’s already addicted.

If one can control oneself, gambling will not do any harm. Those gamblers go bankrupt very quickly because they can never accept losing. And always focused on making money. I believe, most people gamble to make money but one should not put too much hope in gambling. But gambling with that money without paying the hospital bills is a serious problem. From this sign it is very easy to understand that he is addicted to gambling excessively. Moreover, most states have more or less gamblers. The government should take strict measures to solve this problem.

I think it's harder for someone to detect that their gambling behavior has worsened because they think they're continuing to gamble to recoup their losses and that once they hit a big win, all their efforts will pay off. They seem to justify their actions. However, it's usually quite easy to detect abnormal gambling behavior. Gamblers will gamble more frequently and aggressively, not thinking about limits anymore, the important thing is that they win. They also don't hesitate to sell everything and go into debt just to get money to gamble again. They'll also act as if what they're doing is right and that people don't understand them. At that point, a person can be considered an addict, and if it continues, they will only destroy their lives and their families.
