I'm just going to state out one obvious signs we need to look out for in our gambling activities; If a lost betslips affect your mood, ruin the day and makes you feel like you need to keep playing to chase loses until you burn out your balance is an " abnormal gambling behavior"
These signs are pretty obvious and being honest with ourselves is the best way to detect when you gambling behavior is becoming unhealthy
It's a pure Truth and nothing is out of it. Of course, when we gamble and unfortunately losses, our reaction to the loss tells it all. 'its fine, it's just a little money spent, it's normal, I wasn't expecting a win either, just trying my luck'. And you laugh it away, that's okay and a healthy reaction. But on the contrary,,, Moody and almost crying, all aggressive. 'This is nonsense, they are useless team, nonsense players, they couldn't win a common match, now I wasted my money, how do I coup with tye situation now, and BLA BLA BLA...' with all these reactions , it's clear that the gambler must have over spent or maybe try to chase his loss and eventually lost even the more. It has been said countless times, that gambling is not about how much you can predict or your knowledge about the team, and so anyone going to gamble with this believe will always gamble wrongly and will face the consequences.

Let's make it what everyone of us will benefit, in this discussion by being realistic about it, just as the title says, the aim of creating this thread is to help us discuss on some possible means we can use to easily dictect for an abnormal gambling behavior in us or from others around us, this might be an eye opener to some that are already getting it wrong or try to adjust from one thing to the other in gambling.
If you are going to make it more practical, you can use a case scenario or ourself as an example in explaining how we were able to detect for an abnormal gambling situation and what really transpired or happen later, this will make us to have maximum sensitivity to how we are gambling so as to put a check on our behavior as well in it on an occasional basis in order to improve on areas we have already been liking behind that could lead to abnormal behaviors.
The biggest and easiest way to identify a person is his behavior with a person. For example, I want to give a real example about my friend. I have a friend who was a very good boy before that and was not involved in any bad things. But he gradually became addicted to drugs and gambling. In the beginning, his behavior started changing a bit and he started hanging out with some gamblers and drug addicts in the area. At that time, some of our friends and I started getting suspicious about him and we started observing his behavior and started investigating his affairs from several places and at one time we came to know that he had become addicted to drugs and gambling.

Start with maintaining logs of deposits, withdrawals - basic budget allocation as to how much you are spending on gambling. Daily entries will eventually make the person abhor this spreadsheet so much that they will start to avoid entering data into it or stop gambling altogether.
If the habit is becoming abnormal, this will happen early and the choice to maintain a spreadsheet will not happen.
Either way, it is one of the basics of keeping a healthy gambling game going on.

Have a gambling budget, let it be a very small part of your income like 1 or 2%. If you are going beyond the gambling budget, know that something is not right and which is indiscipline gambling habit.
If someone around you do not discuss about gambling with you, you might not know if he is going beyond non addictive stage. But most friends always discuss how they spend on gambling with their other good friends. You can know something is not right, especially anytime you see the person pressing phone or laptop and had a mood swing from happy to moody.
Let’s start by saying that gambling is no longer something that people hide anymore this days, considering how the gambling companies are openly advertising it. One who doesn’t gamble might stumble across such ad and this the person thinking it’s another easy way of making money. If such person on his first and second trials earn great profit. Trust me this person is taking it even more serious than he was. It take only discipline for such person to not get addicted to it. Because trust me in most cases they end up not going to their regular daily work. Only to end up spending many hours in a best shop. I’m saying this as an evidence of a guy such happened to in my area

, someone was admitted in an hospital and he still used the hospital bill on gambling while in the hospital, he doesn't even care about his own life, the rate of gambling addiction in my country is getting out of hands, they are mostly men and very limited numbers of women, I'm glad they are coming out to talk about it, without revealing their faces, they want help, they have accepted that something is very wrong with them.
If a gambler go as far as gambling with money meant for his hospital bills while he is in sick bed, that person is in the worst category of addiction, because he doesn't even care about his life anymore, other than gambling, and such person should be forced to stop gambling because it's only through force such persons can be stopped. .
I don't buys into this your story because their is no way a single person can be addicted to drug and gambling at the same time, he might gamble or do drug as an individual, but being addicted to both is what I disagree on because harbit replaces harbit, so he can't be addicted to both deadly addiction at the same time.

The moment one decides to go the extra mile in gambling, that is the first sign of addiction. You lose and you can't let it go. You go ahead to take money from your savings or borrow from somewhere. Going the extra mile is increasing your stake beyond the original funds you set aside for gambling. After ignoring the warning about going the extra mile in gambling and you eventually do it, you begin to become depressed if you lose. Going the extra mile in gambling is considered addiction to me.

The mood is a determining factor and if it happens when you are playing in an environment where are people around you those mood swings are crystal clear indication of being addicted or having crossed the line. I know this as when I am playing at home and for example my mother in law is there also passing or helping my wife with house chores when I lose I blame her as being the bad luck surrounding me when things go the wrong way. This indicates that I want to blame others for me not being smart and gambling all the time speaking of which if you think about gambling all day then this is another crystal clear indication you have crossed the line.

I believe that everyone can gamble the way he wants, but as soon as person start to be in a rush, that is the abnormal gambling behavior. Gambling is a processes where you should not rush. This is not a race. There is no prize for being first. There is no game with a real timer. Rush in gambling is the reason why gamblers make miss clicks, make rash decisions, place wrong amounts. While in a hurry, players always runs out of balance faster, instead of winning faster.

Actually only a few would really be able to notice it out on the time or moment that they do excessive actions towards into their gambling activity on which they would definitely be having that impression that they are just that doing fine and they are just that spending into the amount that they can afford to lose even if its already that way beyond of their budget on which this is where most mistakes do happen. Whenever you do already realize then its already too late and thats something that you would really be able to happen into you if you arent that careful or wary into the actions that you've been doing. Detecting it as early as possible is just that easy or simple if you are just that sensible towards your actions or with your limitations then you can be able to deterrmine whether its already that hit up your limit and need to stop or you are still on the level where you are just that fine. On the moment that you are already spending above your bankroll then its the solid sign that you should stop already.

True, there will never be any losses to chase in the first place if the gambler never risked high amount of losses, chasing after your loss happens right after you passed your boundaries. As someone who have a source of income, losing $2 on gambling two times in a week won't do you anything, you will even be able to laugh at your loss and if it's in sport betting you will be happy either ways. People are too stubborn is all, they always want to find ways to make money out of nothing, it's not done like that, it's more healthier to accept that gambling is about luck that you and I can't use force to make it happen.

It's a rational argument, but it doesn't work the way you think There is the so-called Concorde effect - the sunk loss trap. In this case, it would look like this: the gambler suffers a huge loss and continues to play, wanting to at least reduce it, and ideally, win it back and turn a profit. In the end, he loses even more, the losses become greater, as does his motivation to continue fighting. Intertwined with the addiction (which is highly likely to already exist in this scenario), the chances that your rational argument will work in the right direction are slim.

The most contrast that we can notice even other people can also see is the use of money and time to gamble, sounds trivial but this is a key part to see the continuity of how normal gambling happens to ourselves or others, for example such as using money excessively, borrowing money, using too much time to gamble and not gambling at the right time is a behavior that leads us to produce bad output to ourselves, such as impulsivity and higher stress because obsession has entered your mind. These two points are enough for anyone to detect abnormal behaviors that can have a negative impact if they continue to do so.

good, you're saying something very wise: when you don't stop at having fun, when you want to do more than you've done, that's when the problems begin you should be wise and stop and think, but often the first instinct is to say, I'm in control, which is absolutely not true.

Usually, keeping detailed records is something people start doing with experience. I think it's more common among those who like to manage their budget carefully, track their spending, and see everything clearly in numbers. If someone has already developed a gambling addiction, I don't think keeping a spreadsheet will help much. In fact, they're probably not even going to bother tracking their gambling activity in the first place.

The moment I realized that someone is gambling and things are not going well with him as a result of gambling behavior, then I noticed that this is something that needed more attention and could be easily turned an abnormal gambling behavior, we all know what is right to do and if someone is neglecting such and doing otherwise, the obvious in him, this is why it shouldn't be it difficult task to know if someone is having an abnormal behavior in gambling and to quickly put them back in place once identified.

I set simple rules for myself long ago and I stick to them rigidly: 1. Limited gambling budget for the month. Not a cent can not be used. Even if "the next bet will definitely win". 2. No wagering attempts, beyond the budget. 3. No attempts to deceive yourself, such as - I now use the budget for the next month, and in the next month will not play.

One of the noticeable sign that most addicts ignore would be when they go out of their way to satisfy their gambling desire, mostly at a loss. Many would take it ordinarily and conclude that it was worth the risk but originally there was never a reward to start with, so what are the odds that the more you play guarantees how close you are to winning?
Some people would compromise important things to gamble with these mindset that whatever wager they placed could be doubled and that is a mad mentality. Addiction is mlt always loud, sometimes it could be the silent moments you struggled with those voices in your head that tells you to keep going.

The funny thing is that every single thing in life start in a single day. That's the reason you see someone that's of a very good behavior just suddenly turn into something else in a tinkle of an eye. And again, the company of friends we usually keep also help in making us who we really are, it can influence us negatively or positively depending on who your friends are. That's why it's very important we choose who we go out with or who we do things with because most of the nonsense attitude we see today in real life was being learn or copy from a cycle of friends.

Probably I can say that a guy or someone with abnormal behaviour in gambling once he is way playing over his time before. Anyone can chill out on casino and have a short stint on playing and having a good time but when you noticed he skipped some real life events or more than usual time given to gambling then thats the time you could say or justify that he somehow exhibit an abnormal behaviour.
And when you go out to gamble with a friend, you guys have a budget and time to spend. Each time he runs out of cash, there is always an excuse, asking for more time or money to stake more with some bullshit stories that he might believe sound convincing. Deep down, their lack of control is what's pushing them to act.

Have a gambling budget, let it be a very small part of your income like 1 or 2%. If you are going beyond the gambling budget, know that something is not right and which is indiscipline gambling habit...
I agree that your gambling budget should be a small, fixed part of your income. The most important thing is to treat that money as entertainment spending, not as an investment or a way to make money. At the same time, gambling addiction isn't always easy to spot. The problem is that some people never talk about their losses and can pretend for a long time that everything is under control. From my point of view, mood swings, obsessively checking your phone, getting frustrated over little things, and keeping your gambling a secret are all signs that gambling may be becoming a real problem.
