The hype on AI replacing human workers has been making waves for years now. Some people predict a massive job losses in our industries. But a recent report from Ford is raising concern over that claim.

According to report Ford had to rehire human engineers after their AI systems could not consistently meet the rigorous quality standards required in automotive manufacturing. Source

Quality failures can cost millions or even billions in this crypto space. In Bitcoin and crypto, we already know security is everything. would you trust a fully AI-built bridge, wallet, or exchange system without human engineers doing final checks? I know AI is powerful but it still needs human oversight. We've all seen AI-generated code with hidden bugs.

At this point I think human role remain irreplaceable in high quality production.

I don’t think this was even opened up for debate then, everyone knows that yes AI advancement bring some kind of change in the Job marketing industry many people who fails to advance will most definitely be replaced but we have all for long concluded that there is a limitation to the jobs that AI can actually be able to take away totally from humans. When people talk about AI they simply put it like it will do things all by itself own, we need to understand that AI are going to get trained by humans too, and yes AI is broader or wider in many areas but in area of specialization AI is actually not better than some humans.

As for the wallet development it’s not a new thing actually there is no way AI wouldn’t be needing human insight, it requires human prompt to know exactly what to do. So from this prompts there is already checks going on there

Ai technology is still developing and as far as I know, they don't fix themselves unless humans do. We might still not see so much layoffs but more reduced workforce with AI assistance and that's for the countries who have so much resources allocation to ai development because in truth, no company or platform or organization can totally replace human resources with AI assistance.

At this point I think human role remain irreplaceable in high quality production.
It is possible that the artificial intelligence that handles that role is not yet advanced enough to properly do it better than humans. This is why the company has had to rehire humans to ensure quality control. Over time as artificial intelligence improves, the company may decide to give it a try again, and if they find out that artificial intelligence can now solve the issue better than before, that is because of the improvements in its technology. It can happen that they decide to sack workers again and take those jobs over to artificial intelligence to handle.

Don't get comfortable; keep working on improving your skills.

You can't possibly know how the platform works, like an exchange that is completely operated by an AI or just the humans and either way it is not a problem as long as people can trade using that exchange. There are certain places are irreplaceable even with AI which doesn't change the fact that AI already costed hundreds of thousand jobs in the tech field and who know it might extend to other sectors too.

I believe they need to be taught to be very logical. It will help them arrive at the right conclusion. Unfortunately, without logic it becomes difficult to know how things should be.
If you ask AI to generate a code, it should generate it, have it cached somewhere and then start questioning the code with stuff like, if part of the software behave this way how will other parts behave, What could possibly go wrong if this is structure this way, etc This is also a review method

Though  I agree that AI is a very powerful and influential tool but it is not ready right now to completely replace the human expertise in different field specially in safety and security industries. AI is helping in different industries it is feeding up the coding process the testing and designing process but it is also introducing different errors that are difficult to detect at first. In bitcoin etc a single mistake can costs a lot. Is it is better to view artificial intelligence as an assistant rather than thinking that it is a replacement to human being there are industries in which risk level is very high human oversight remain an essential part regardless of the influence of AI.

AI is limited to what it can replace, and this is one of the jobs that it cannot replace: human memory and analysis for quality control, brought about by many years of experience, is hard to match. The AI will rely on what's in its data, while humans will rely on memory and years of experience in looking at how to spot a quality product.
AIs are good at assisting us, but we should not assume that they can replace the human analytical thinking process.

AI needs people, its massively ironic that the more AI you have the more guidance and training it requires to fully achieve its potential.    The A part of AI should be in double size font because its not really that intelligent its just better then the old binary type computer processing of older design systems, its a great advance but no ai will be replacing people in their entire capability, not now or a hundred years from now.
The obvious hope is to do basic jobs that are so repetitive its actually a waste of human time and ability, thats where AI can shine.

The executives who made these decisions should come out and admit that they made a terrible decision based on sentiments instead of logic and evidence. Now that they have rehired to veterans quality check engineers, how do they think they will feel? Do they think they will still be loyal to the company or their will think that they just rehired them for them main time and can fire them once the executives think AI has become advanced to now take over with any "errors in judgement"?

But according to the OP's news source, the engineer was rehired, among other things, to train AI tools to become "veteran" equivalents, meaning they are not closed off from using other AI in the future and before the engineer's role has to be shifted again. I haven't heard anything about employee layoffs or simply reassignments at this company.

I agree, but once AI advances further, there will still be humans maintaining the operations, however, far fewer people will be needed compared to today. While human workers won't be completely replaced, the manpower required will likely decrease because of AI.

Remember, our technology keeps advancing. As time goes by, AI will surely become even more advanced than what we have right now.

That's true. The only thing they can't replicate is complex stuff and creative stuff, as in making things out of nothing instead of following a template based on billions of data. Another thing is that AI can't provide accountability. If something fucked up happens, who can take the blame? Company won't get away with saying "our AI can fail, so user should take the risk themselves" if they're dealing with something sensitive. Who will pay a hospital if their AI misdiagnose and they said they're not responsible for it?

Ford were probably 5 years too early in utilising AI to replace engineers. I am not sure about
engineer jobs but certainly there are some jobs like administrative roles which are under imminent
thread of replacement by AI.

I really hope those engineers at Ford were able to negotiate a stronger contract for themselves,
they had the upper hand when Ford came back looking for them to return.

Sounds like a costly premature move to cut costs by Ford by employing AI. A win for humans!

It could be just one area wherein AI can't replace, but who knows. For now, human eyes might be better than AI specially in quality checks. But we all know that AI moves very quick and can adopt to it. Not siding with AI though, but it the developers behind see some issues, then for sure they are going to fix it asap.

So again, we might be safe for now, but if we are going to base on Moore's law then in less than a year, there could be new set of AI that is better than the previous one and that it can go side by side with humans as far as qc goes.

If if there are going to be cheap, then for sure Ford col go back to this AI itself.

It all depends on who will bear legal responsibility for errors in such an expensive production facility. If someone, say an assembler, works on a production line, they will pay for their own mistakes, since when they are hired, they sign a document agreeing to assume all financial risks associated with their carelessness. As for AI and robots, it's unclear who will bear responsibility for them. After all, they really can't yet perfectly replace humans.
I can assume that compensation will come from the creator of these mechanisms and robots, and most likely that will be the case. But this will be an expensive repair.

What people get wrong is thinking it's "AI or humans", while it should be "AI and humans".
This is still the earlier stages of adoption and things will look very uncertain, but there is no way the AI will reduce employment. In fact, I believe it will increase it. For now, companies will lay off a lot of their workers and opt to use AI, but with time, more people would have better understanding of AI and use it to create jobs for themsleves and thers.
The same way the internet and social media created employment.
I have never considered AI as a threat, even though companies have layed off thousands of workers.

I think thats a fair assesment.

We are indeed in the early stages of AI adoption but there are certain fields that are now under threat
for example Graphic Design. ADOBE software products can now generate images and edits in a fraction
of the time it would take a human but it still takes a human to direct it, maybe not as many though.

An IT friend of mine has been told to try and make their job compatible with AI in order to save her job!

But yea getting back to Ford's predicament - its clear that its either too early to be replacing specialised
engineering jobs or its going to be the case that the likes of engineers will always needed.

It feels like this is going to happen more and more - a push back on AI jammed into certain processes because it is the latest buzzword that executives need to have popping up in their plans. This is a prime example where AI simply cannot understand the nuances or identify something that exists outside of a specific template. Lots of promises have been made around AI but anyone who has used it for just a little bit will know that it is very prone to making mistakes too. The fact is this links back to money, where they've determined that more errors are getting through which costs the company a lot more money than having actual trained people catching them. People are using AI for all kinds of purposes, like coding, but it is probably introducing bugs there too.

Yeah, there are fields that are under threat currently, but using the example of Graphic design you used, somebody like me, who knows nothing about graphic design, won't be able to use the ADOBE software to generate a high-quality image. It would still require a person who understands graphic design, and I won't go to learn graphic design simply because I want to design things by myself when there is someone I can pay to do the job for me.
So that takes me back to my initial point that AI would make the job easier and better for the graphic designer instead of making him jobless entirely.
True, some people are already losing their jobs due to AI, but that is because we're still in the early stages of its adoption. With time, everything will even out.

An IT friend of mine has been told to try and make their job compatible with AI in order to save her job!

This is kind of what I mean by "Humans and AI". In the world we live in, especially in the tech world, you either evolve and adapt or be left behind. It's a brutal place. So businesses and companies will have to adapt. AI, in my opinion, won't replace; it will enhance. It will make work easier for humans. This may mean requiring fewer humans and hours to do a particular job, but the same AI will create more opportunities for others.

This is why I always use the Internet and electricity as an example. It made jobs easier and reduced the number of people and hours required to do a job, but it also created a lot of job for more people.
AI will become more advance than it is today. I don't know when, but the time will come.
