I have always advive those who don't have a source of income to fix the problem first before they turn into a gambler, but I don't even know that someone who is already making good amount of money can get this addicted to gambling.

Agree and its hard to force anyone who's already in that situation, because most of those people will resist and feel bad on the actions they have done to her/him.

If he want to change maybe this step must really came first to the affected person. Since if he enter on that state, people could now enter and show their support towards those changes they want to happen in their life.

Seconded, when someone has already made up their minds to gamble based on the false promises that gamble seems to be giving them, you certainly can't convince them otherwise. I'm sorry your friend had to be among those who destroyed their lives with gamble, I just hope he learns his lesson and depart from gamble since he doesn't have self control to know when to stop or accept defeat. I'm not surprised because when you start clinging more onto gambling, you loose concentration and interest in whatever fetches your daily bread and turn fully to gambling. I have mentioned in the past how a acquaintance of mine bet and lost his car (and how his mother didn't help him at all by giving him hers and saying that the boy couldn't be without a car, but that's another story), but what I think I didn't mention is that this guy has not only a job but also a business.

I am sorry for your friend, but there will probably be a time when he wants to quit, but he is not able to do it. There will always be a point when a gambler will think twice about what he is doing and somehow review all his losses and his gambling problem.
I was at that point, and thankfully, I listened to myself. I stopped playing slots, where I lost most of my money, and then switched back to sports betting, which can be enjoyed even when you bet small amounts.

I went through a very similar situation with a close relative. He is a very intelligent and quick-witted person who was able to solve many complex problems, including financial ones that many other people couldn't handle. However, excessive self-confidence led him to make devastating mistakes in gambling, and he still refuses to accept them as losses. From my experience, I can say that no words will help until the person genuinely wants to change. I no longer communicate with my relative because every attempt to reconnect usually ends with him asking for more financial help or arguments over his debts.At this point, none of his friends want to see or talk to him anymore. Pride and greed is what brings a man down to the ground from the top where he or she has been before, and let's not forget that in this part of the world being African, witches are real, village people are real, so if you don't protect yourself in whatever means you can, they will come through whatever means they can get you and render you useless, you and other people will blame gambling for your predicament but spiritually, your problem is not really gambling, enemies used gambling to drain your resources.

The mother made a big mistake, she didn't save the situation like she thought, she just prevented him from learning the important lessons obtainable from working harder and replacing his car by himself, that way he would not be so careless next time. Sometimes, certainly help is more detrimental than positive. I wouldn't do such for my own son, some life lessons are better learned from pain, discomfort and lack.
