My Christening Gift to My Goddaughter, Bitcoin

Plus, her dad is one of my close friends that I am the one introduced Bitcoin to, so he knows what he is doing.

Maybe I am the only one who has weird parents? Whenever someone gives anything shiny and costly to me I always want my father or mother to keep it for me but they always spend them.

The only thing I had was biscuits and cakes, or something they can't eat that will likely spike their blood sugar, but money? Hell no, I don't trust parents with anything money that's given their kids.

I would prefer something that can lock that Bitcoin till that child is up to a certain stage, that's when the Bitcoin will really becomes her own.

The OP said he has already introduced the child's father to Bitcoin; therefore, he should know the importance of holding Bitcoin for a long period. Selling the Bitcoin at this time, when the price of Bitcoin has dropped significantly, would be a waste of resources.

I appreciate OP for this innovative idea. There have been accounts of people who gave Bitcoin as a gift during birthdays and wedding anniversaries. This is the first time I have seen gifting Bitcoin to a Goddaughter.

Of all the gifts given, I think this would be the only one that would remain useful and valuable for her forever. Bitcoin gets more valuable in the future, so I think this fits the purpose that it should be given first on the day of her christening and she will carry her bitcoin all along until she will manage to earn another bitcoin on her own.

I am also suggesting that we should start gifting our love once, especially our kid's bitcoin on their birthdays instead of buying toys and so on. if I am in the shoes of the father of that child, I will try as much as possible to see how I can tighten the bond between both family. Not necessarily as a pay back to the friend but also as a show of appreciation and most importantly to tap from the blessing of that family. What I mean by tapping the blessing is that any father that can think in this direction of doing this bold step, if his son or daughter were to be big enough to get msrried to my child in any of the cases, I will be more than willing to encourage my child to marry them.

Your goddaughter may not appreciate the value of your gift for now, but I can't imagine the happiness felt by the parents. They must have been touched for your thoughtful present for their dear daughter. That only means you are actually a good and responsible godfather.

How I wish I can do the same to my future goddaughters and godsons, the parents would be very happy knowing that. Because believe it or not, nowadays we don't please the kid anymore, but the parents and guardians that will keep their presents, lol.

First you need to create the design.  Considering most people do not have editing skills, I assume you downloaded a file from some where and started from there.  Which is already a possible danger.  Then you create a Seed and wrote it down in the design.  I have to guess you did not do all of this on an offline computer that got wiped after.  And then you communicated that file to a printer which if modern probably has an Internet connection and possibly even storage.  Which to my high level paranoia, it means the gift could be compromised!

If you considered all of these things, well done!  But I imagine more people are going to do this now and one of them will do it the wrong way!

My way would be much more simple.  The same design but the Seed is written by pen.  That removes a large portion of the possibilities of things going wrong.

That's so nice of you to give your goddaughter Bitcoin. I don't think many people would consider giving Bitcoin to others, as people usually prefer to give cash, goods, or gifts that can be used immediately. But let's hope the child's father doesn't sell that Bitcoin, because if he does, he wouldn't be a "good" friend.

The fate of this gift could be very interesting when the grown-up child discovers what her present actually is ("I became a millionaire!").

I doubt a father would deprive his child of this significant gift given on this special day.

The only thing I could quibble with is that the storage medium is paper. Anything can happen to paper over almost 20 years. Therefore, this gift could have been decorated (supplemented) with a metal plate with the seed phrase, perhaps painted with something to protect it from prying eyes.

But in any case, you gave a good gift and also found a good use for bitcoin.

Thanks for this. I'm aware of this; I entered and printed the seeds on my secured MacOS computer during OFFLINE.
I first have the template in PDF -> no seeds or public address printed yet.
I created a Python script that I will run offline, and printer is ready to print: In this script, I will enter the 12 words, the public address, and proceed = it will direct print the paper, after that (this does not generate new PDF file as it is directed to print).
 I also make sure no more Preview open or files were generated, and the recycle bin is also empty before I turn the internet back on.

That's actually really thoughtful you’ve put in so much care to pick a gift that could really make a difference one day. Setting aside Bitcoin for your loved one is both practical and forward thinking. if things go well, he might even be able to cover a big chunk of his education with it. If I were in a situation where I was hungry and Bitcoin couldn't help me buy food, I would take $100 in food like anyone who thinks logically. It should be understood that for some people, Bitcoin is worth nothing, because firstly, they don't understand what it is about, and secondly, even if they did, they would have trouble converting it into their fiat currency.

You’re giving a gift that’s far more meaningful than just cash. Given Bitcoin long term growth potential, it’s entirely possible that by the time your goddaughter is old enough to understand at least the basics of Bitcoin, its value will have increased many times over compared to today. Giving someone Bitcoin as a gift is truly extraordinary given the impact it could have. And I think it’s part of raising awareness among many people about Bitcoin. Perhaps it seems simple by considering that anyone can do it. But I personally think that doing so is extraordinary because it can have a positive impact on anyone. On the other hand while anyone can do something like this not everyone is capable of taking such concrete action. I hope there will be even more people with ideas like this to make a difference in others’ lives. The impact isn’t limited to raising awareness about Bitcoin but it also fosters financial literacy and even technological literacy.

It will be a gift she'll be grateful for in the future, because in the long run, Bitcoin has the potential to increase in value, and if her father is able to hold onto it properly and pass it on to her when she better understands it, then it could become a valuable asset for her.
