Hey all, as the title says I'm doing a poll to find out which sections or boards of the forum you think need to be cleaned up the most. You can vote for up to 5 options. If you think everything about the forum is good and it doesn't need a cleanup, you can select "None." If there's a section I missed, please check "Other" and then mention which one in a reply.

Gambling board has a lot of unnecessary posts but I didn't check it because it's kinda close to the off topic board or rather it seems we've accepted what's there already because if you wanted to clean it up a lot of posts are gonna get nuked and not just that there's gonna be a lot of merging to do.

Just out of curiosity sake are you hoping to do a deep clean or just latest from , 3 months o already made my votes but it's worth knowing almost all boards need cleaning if you go way back to get old posts.

Actually what I have in mind would only affect future posts in spam-heavy sections, but yeah maybe a retroactive cleanup is warranted going back a certain # of months as well. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

The gambling board of course. It’s been that way since I was a newbie probably worse now since majority of the campaigns available on the forum are sponsored by casinos so users who normally do not fancy sports or gambling now have to post in that section to fulfil their signature requirements, hence the many topics about gambling addiction and gambling for fun.

IMO, the boards suffering from spam are obvious, focus on why does the gambling board have so much spam and how do we reduce it. Perhaps a merit source on the board could encourage genuine interactive posts or maybe the board just needs more moderation. I would love to hear your idea on how to solve the problem.

Pretty much all the forum is loaded with unnecessary posts. Only the technical sections are an exception—and not much else. Forums are just that, places where people have  unnecessary discussions.

Forums are just that, places where people have  unnecessary discussions.

I can see some truth to this but I'm pretty sure our forum has waaaaay more unnecessary discussions than your average forum, for obvious reasons.

All of them could use clean up. But personally i choose "Bitcoin Discussion", because fair amount of the thread is more appropriate on other board.

I added "the most" to the end of the question, because I'm in agreement with you, they probably all could use some cleanup.

You can vote for up to 5 boards, BTW... you don't have to limit yourself to just one.

You did not include the lending board with new accounts asking for unnecessary loan just because they want to scam. They will say they will pay back the money, but everybody knows that is not going to be true. Newbies should not also be given privileged to post on the board.

I guess you are referring to the gambling discussion board. The gambling board is the board which is not a child board, but one of its child boards which is gambling discussion board is where there are unnecessary discussions.

I selected Economics/Speculation and Trading Discussion because those have the highest amount of merit farmers. Many threads in Gambling discussion are just as bad, but I would prioritize the Economy sections because the urgency to earn merit and rank up is what leads to spammers getting hired in campaigns and shitposting in gambling sections and other areas of the forum.

I knew I was going to vote "Bitcoin Discussion" even before I saw your list of options. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I think Bitcoin Discussion should be one of the best and most interesting boards on the forum, but it's been a dump for as long as I can remember.

Good point, Meta makes a good second on my list. In many topics, I often have several Ignored users posting in a row.

You mean the merit-sourceship application trend? Hehe. It made me sick to my stomach, the extent we've gone to promote diligence, in a time like this, when it is indispensable. Somehow, the people have found the guts, after doing enough, to ask for control to disintegrate the system even more.I don't have a long list, but from what my notifier shows me, Bitcoin discussion has lost credibility. Trading discussion is now filled with garbages from people that have absolutely no idea on how to read the market, let alone trade a candle. They just get along with everything so it doesn't feel like they're left out, but the main problem is still in place....Ignorance! That doesn't bother them one bit.

I wish the economic section to be more strict when it comes to moderation, because for a while there are some newbies who simply create multiple useless threads in there and ghost them completely. I have very few users on ignore, but when I visit the economics section, more than 60% of the threads on the first page were created by them.

B&H can also be, because the same repetitive question again and again, we can find at least 3 or 4 threads of similar context on the first page alone.

Of course Gambling discussion is in my first place. If there were additional boards about "sports", it would be nice to relegate some of the megathreads to a special place.

The second is "Trading discussion (Description: Discussion about doing business with Bitcoin. Best trading practices, delivery methods etc.)". Most of the topics there slowly shifted the Board's goal to how to gain trading profit on centralized exchanges. I think the "best trading practices" the description refers to are solutions/pathways/approaches to doing a specific business

Do you want to satisfy your own personal curiosity or do you think a question like this can result in anything meaningful?

The forum has a system for reporting posts, has moderators who handle such reports and an admin who appoints them. The only thing missing are ordinary members who report bad/problematic posts - but those who hate spam the most have a rule to put bad members on ignore because reporting is a waste of time for them.

What the forum needs are active moderators who act independently without reports, and if they are going to take serious action, then it is logical that they start their work from the top of the forum.

I voted "Bitcoin discussion" and I was not surprised that it is already topping in the poll result, together with "gambling board".

In bitcoin discussion, there are still quality posts and discussions going on there, just that they are diluted. In the same vein, I do not think that much could be done there because most of those topics are bitcoin related and not off topics. It seem that BITCOIN itself is diluted.

Since the involvement of the institutions and the governments, bitcoin discussion has shifted from protocols and technical to fundamental and political, who owns bitcoin and how much they own, when Saylor is selling and how much he will buy after selling. Maybe we are just following a trend that will fade off soon.

If the poll continues until mid-October, this thread will also need to be cleaned up.

I'm not entirely clear whether this poll was created simply out of curiosity, or whether this information will subsequently be used by the forum administration for an actual clean (if not, then what's the point of this vote)? Also, I'm not entirely clear on the criteria by which the threads to be clean will be selected. All threads in a row (for a given time period)? Or selectively? Don't the moderators have anything better to do than select "good" and "bad" threads? And the most important question (which should be asked with any activity): why conduct this cleaning? To clear the forum of old "garbage"? But new ones are constantly coming in, meaning this cleanings will have to be done regularly.

Well, it's just application...s ya know? Approval depends on admin for a reason. Also, if you allow yourself to be physically affected by the random Internet forum (correct me if it was rhetorical by the way), you aren't thick skinned bruv, don't you know, only thick skinned people allowed here?

PS: I suggest admin to add something that checks registering user whether (s)he's thick skinned or not before allowing them to proceed with registration, so at least they will save themselves from physical discomfort that they may face later on with forum happenings.

+1. Give each board a few (different) active moderators and bitcointalk would be much cleaner place.

Also, I'm pretty sure that there would be enough of quality and reputable members who would do the job for free so that wouldn't cost forum anything.

Regarding the poll, I voted for Bitcoin Dicussion and Gambling boards for obvious reasons.
