This topic has been pandering in my head for some time now and why I brought it up here though I don't know if such topic is already existing, in our society today most people believes that the younger ones should greet the older ones first while some believes the older ones is meant to greet first, I have received greetings from an older person first and I have also greeted an older person first but on a general point of view I think anyone can greet first without the feeling of entitlement that the other person is meant to greet first irrespective of class and age. What's your take on this? Let's talk about it.
Greetings are not about age, but some people feel greetings should only come from younger individuals. I think this is an old African mentality where the younger ones are expected to give total submission to elderly people, whether they are right or wrong.

In the old days in West Africa, greeting was seen as a sign of respect, but this is not supposed to be the case. Anyone can choose to greet, whether young or elderly. If greetings are a sign of respect, they should not come from just one group, namely the younger ones; they should come from both young and elderly people because respect is a mutual concept.

I get people whenever I come into an environment, it's just courtesy, you're coming into a place others are already occupying, do courtesy demands that you show some recognition to them, even if it's just a "hi guys". I've got series of respectful getting from younger ones after greeting them first and somehow you teach the younger ones the importance of greeting when you greet them first, it's more like a passive education to them from you.
