If you are talking about solid projects I have to mention the old solid BTC forks:
Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin SV, Bitcoin Gold, Litecoin, Dash.

There have to be enough of us OGs that we could all work together and dev something really cool. Memecoins and shit are cool to an extent and they kind of scratch the itch but I want to make something that really gives us all hope again. With people that know how to fucking hold longer than 30 seconds. Maybe its a pipe dream idk, but I really miss the 2013 era so much. Thats when everything felt exciting and progress wasnt paywalled to fuck and back.

I personally believe there are only two conditions under which public trust in an altcoin can restore hope for all of us. These are the altcoin must be truly community-driven and must have an innovative use case that isn’t a copy of existing ones. A community-driven altcoin is likely to restore public trust because its community will work together very strongly to popularize it. They will promote it enthusiastically to raise widespread awareness among the general public. An altcoin’s unique and innovative use case will drive its adoption which in turn will fuel the growth of its value. I don’t have any ideas about the latest use cases that might give us all hope again. But I personally think that Ethereum is one altcoin that truly offers innovative utility through the smart contract features it provides. Or the emergence of privacy-focused altcoins is also an innovation that allows them to endure for years given that their utility is still in demand. I think we need a truly brilliant idea to create an altcoin that can reignite hope to altcoins.

We have seen that Bitcoin dominance in crypto market has further strengthen because of disappointing behaviour of alts coins specially the one that are not among top 50 on CMC. The story of new alt coins is different as most of them are either scam or abandoned by their founders because of different reasons. To me its very difficult that people will start investing major portion of their money in alts as they feel its more safe to invest in Bitcoin because of its historical ROI. Eth has maintained its position as second best coin for many years and this is why its trusted by investors as second best option.

A team of a few OGs in the crypto world can actually achieve that, not involving those who are hunting for wealth across new coins and tokens, as long as the team is focused on building something unique; they can try to hold their portion for years and not sell, but you can’t really control the decision of the next person. Many are currently in the crypto world to exploit opportunity.

There have to be enough of us OGs that we could all work together and dev something really cool.
Before creating something new, you need to ask yourself, "Is this needed?" Or rather, who needs it? A couple of veterans?

Something "really cool" already exists – bitcoin. And among altcoins, there's a whole sea (actually, not many) of "really cool" coins, but no one wants them.

Memecoins and shit are cool to an extent and they kind of scratch the itch but I want to make something that really gives us all hope again.
Memecoins only satisfy one need: transferring money from investor's pockets to speculators (and those investors who manage to jump ship first) and the project's creators.

And let's say XMR doesn't inspire hope? Decentralization and anonymity are our hope.

With people that know how to fucking hold longer than 30 seconds.
They need to be paid for this. Smiley Can work for an idea until feel hungry. Smiley

Maybe its a pipe dream idk, but I really miss the 2013 era so much. Thats when everything felt exciting and progress wasnt paywalled to fuck and back.
Every era ends and there's no return. It's just nostalgia.

Well that is not true. A lot of people invested in altcoins - see current BTC dominance (cmc shows 58.7% currently https://coinmarketcap.com/charts/bitcoin-dominance/). I know few people who invested in ETH or KAS a lot. Some even have free energy from solar panels which were used to mine ETH few years ago. Some "really cool" coins do exist & people wants them. Anyway more cool altcoins = less BTC dominance (it's like more cool Linux distros = less M$ dominance). IMO diversification is good & reasonable: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diversification_(finance)

There are many differences between the crypto community of 2013 and today's crypto environment. Now projects are created to get rich quick, while back then, the idea of technology experimentation and decentralization were discussed and worked towards that goal. Now the crypto industry has become much larger and its market cap has exceeded trillions of dollars, but even then it does not have the same vibe as before. Now the number of speculative projects has increased a lot, which is why investing large amounts of money in memecoins, given the short-term trend, is more likely to cause losses or risks. I think that day will not be available to new investors.

Buying some old projects isn't bringing back what we had. It was just slice of the athmosphere tied to the time and place. And even id we wanted to recreate it, it's impossible, because whole tone changes when there's a small party that goes under the radar compared to when 1/6th of the world population suddenly wants to be a part of it.

Also i don't remember anyone realistically supporting Bitcoin Gold. I wanted to get into dash, when it was still called darkcoin. That actually drove me to the crypto, but everything, including dash has changed so much that i haven't been into dash for a long time.

Most of the crypto projects created during 2013 were real projects, scammers don’t really know much about crypto then, and they were not making use of crypto to scam people then. Now crypto is getting more awareness, and scammers know that most people joining crypto space now are just after quick profits, that’s why they are creating coins and making people believe that they can be able to make quick money in crypto space, and people desperate to make money are always falling for them.

I always encourage people to invest in bitcoin, because that’s the only coin which am having so much confidence in, and anyone that chooses to invest in altcoins, then it’s better to just go for altcoins that have been in the market for years, and they are still growing, always avoid all this new projects entering market because you are likely going to be scammed.

I do not know why that guy did not put them on his charts. I really like the history & I wonder sometimes how to preserve it forever. Until Nov 2009 was about ~623 Bitcoin downloads (0,000009% of Earth pop.) on sf.net & in Dec 2010 it was about 47+k (0,0006695% of Earth pop.) and I compare this stats to small projects/forks. What'd happen if most web servers around the world went down (for example by random factor/weapon/bad actor) ? This question always intriguing me.

Edit: I just came up with a crazy idea - compile open source curreny patterns into Linux Kernel [open currency could be preserved little longer I think] Cheesy

thre's a coin that deserves to come back, to become mainstream to have real development and ecosystem,

it was not premined, has no marketing,  hype or developers holding coins, but real utility, truly an open source, community driven currency, like bitcoin.

it was the underdog but many were burned as could only be bought with bitcoin and scammers pumped it on the trollbox,

it has since been delisted in most exchanges. But it's alive and technically  strong.

with the price fluctuating around 1 $ the last year.

and a mkc of less tha 20mill.

it's the coin that should not be named...

You know what i'm talking about if you are an OG.

The shortest answer I have is not all altcoins are lacking, many from the old times are still doing pretty well right now and they have strong community backup too.

The problem is even Devs don't have value anymore, today anyone can create a Blockchain system, even easier with AI, it's not going to get better until there is some restrictions.

If only Harvard Blockchain developers are allowed to built projects and new innovation everyone will be after them, compared to running after meme coins and thousands of dead beat projects in crypto space .

It's because everyone is now a developer and this is bad.

I can see some altcoins investors are quitting altcoins investment over some years based on what is happening to altcoins but I don't think it will reach to quite altcoins investment because there is a hope that altcoins will still going to be dominant in the future if only their investors will be wise when waiting for bullish season to appear which they know that bearish season will not going to Live forever. I think a lot of altcoins investors earned huge amount of income from altcoins investment in 2013, which was a bullish season that created big opportunity for altcoins investors.

Investors become more selective to use their funds in altcoins. They become more mature now, they aren't easily following the hype in any altcoin anymore. So, I think it is good sign that investors won't hurry to invest in altcoins nowadays. Sure, this doesn't mean investors will stop totally investing in altcoins. There are still many investors who invest in top altcoins, they only reduce their funds to random altcoins and new altcoins. When the bullish season starts, I think investors will invest more into potential altcoins. Now, they are still focusing in Bitcoin.

I think a lot of altcoins investors earned huge amount of income from altcoins investment in 2013, which was a bullish season that created big opportunity for altcoins investors.
Indeed. Investors got huge profits in altcoins in 2013, 2017, and 2021. They just got smaller profits in 2025 because there was no altcoinseason. Not sure that we will have another altcoinseason anymore in the future.

It seems many long for their assets to grow and develop, not just like a passing fad. If someone wants to create one, I think it's fine, as long as it's clear and has a real, reliable impact.

We know the crypto world is a vast underworld, and in this day and age, the potential for fraudulent attempts to steal users' funds is quite high, requiring qualified and illegal means. They simply create temporary tokens, list them on exchanges, pump them for a short time, and then pull out the red carpet. This imbalance can be devastating, burying people alive financially.

Yeah. That is the difference between tokens or coins born in 2013 and those of the past few years, without the promise of a reliable product.

Many people fail to capitalize on the early days of altcoins because they didn't have enough projects and they concentrated on creating a useful product. In this age of the meme coins and short-term speculation, it has become difficult to stand out for serious projects. However, I don't believe it's going back to 2013, since it's evolved too much. The requirement now is for developers to produce something useful and for the communities to care more about long-term development than short-term pumps. As long as the project is providing results, patient investors will eventually see the value in a project, even in the worst of markets.

True. Things are not as "exciting" as they were in the early days. Now it's all about profits. We can blame "Wall Street" and the "meme" coins craze for this. Because of crypto's rising popularity, centralization increased like never before. Now most of the coins we know and love today are centralized. The number of truly-decentralized projects is diminishing each day. They're a very small minority.

I've already lost hope for altcoins to make a comeback. Especially altcoins focusing on utility instead of hype. At least, we got Bitcoin. What more can we ask?

There have to be enough of us OGs that we could all work together and dev something really cool. Memecoins and shit are cool to an extent and they kind of scratch the itch but I want to make something that really gives us all hope again. With people that know how to fucking hold longer than 30 seconds.

With what has happened over the years concerning alt and meme, it would be near impossible to develop a new coin and convince or expect a large numbers of investors to invest heavily and hold it, because almost all the alt and meme coin in the market has gained a bad reputation for themselves, which is falling more than they rise, so convincing others to leave a more reliable option like Bitcoin, ethereum or BNB for a newly created coin will be very difficult, unless they just want to take a gamble on it.

Additionally, these days once a new coin is launched, what comes to the mind of investors is how to make money from it, not to buy and hold, because they believe that the coin might dump on them if they hold it for long, so because their mindset is wired towards profit making, don't expect any of them to hold the new coin for long.

You be be very careful how you play around with altcoins and memecoin because when you get into a mess you can’t come out from that situation.

You might not be able to recover, inventing in memecoin is more like gambling which is why you should be very cautious and careful.

Bitcoin should be more like your safe haven if you want to get involved in cryptocurrency.

Well I can understand that you’re a trader and you’re not interested in long term investment, which is why you’re more likely to invest in memecoin, well I’m talking from experience.
If someone decides to invest their hard earned money into shits or memecoin we can not stop them but we can only remind them of the consequences of their and what to expect which serves as a harmless advice but that is if they inform us before implementing such decision.
You hear people preach about memecoins, how they were able to get some profit out of it, but they leave some part of the story untold,  with all that have been said, I have been waiting to hear from anyone that memcoin or any altcoin is better than bitcon but nothing of such has been said or heard from anyone, it has always been an alternative that sometimes has a tragic end that we keep hearing.

I was happy where you said that investing in memecoin is just similar to gambling and it is true, and do you think a real and good investment should be seen as gambling?
I owe people people my sincere advice and honesty in regards to cryptocurrency (Bitcoin) investment, if anyone must invest in memecoin since we know what it looks like, it has to be with what we can forgo easily that is my advice.

Well, if you have an innovative idea, then bring it on; the trust in new altcoins is not good now; people think that it's another developer cash cow, but if it's something new and there's demand for its use case, then doubt will turn to support for what you are creating.
Quote
but I really miss the 2013 era so much. Thats when everything felt exciting and progress wasnt paywalled to fuck and back.
It's a great era in cryptocurrency where real developers create coins with real use cases, until scammers find their way into this industry and start messing everything.
It is said that 'once beaten twice shy, which implys that a lot of serious investors have learnt their lessons and became very skeptical about new projects because they've been burnt severally by scam projects that initially promised to set off to the moon but crashed without any hope of resurrection. If any developers with good intentions comes out with their project visions and doesn't get any ovations they shouldn't blame anybody because most of what they have to say have already been elaborated by scam developers so it's no longer easy to convince anybody to invest their money. The altcoins market is leveraging on past glory but almost all the recent projects have proven to be failures, any new projects have to go beyond hype to prove that they will be relevant.
