Without wasting your time with the definition of decentralisation and what it stands for, let's dive into the actual talk. There are many decentralised wallets out there, and more are still popping up. Over the years, we have used many decentralised wallets and gained hands-on experience with them, their flaws and their improvements.

So, based on your experience, which decentralised wallet has lived up to the hype and is still performing well despite its setbacks? I'll go first. I have been using Trust Wallet, and it has been pretty nice. But I need another one; that's why I started this thread.

So, which one are you currently using that you're not ready to let go of anytime soon?

Note: I'm not asking about hardware wallets.

Trust Wallet is closed source and you cannot independently validate it's security and efficiency, so it's discouraged and should be avoided. You should be more inclined to using open-source non-custodial wallets like Electrum, Blue wallet, Sparrow e.t.c.

I use Electrum, it's open-source, secured, lightweight and has a very easy to use interface.

You can read this thread to find out more detailed reasons not to use Trust Wallet.

Trust wallet is a useless wallet, don't even use their wallet extension. Last year, there was a malicious code that stole users thousands of dollars. https://trustwallet.com/tr/blog/announcements/trust-wallet-browser-extension-v268-incident-community-update

CZ promised to reimburse the affected users, I'm not sure if they did, maybe they paid some affected influencers and ignored the voiceless.

Some non custodial wallet I used and will recommend are electrum available for pc and android mobile, sparrow for pc,  Bluewallet for android and ios, and, cake wallet.

I don't understand about decentralization accurately, it's about Bitcoin blockchain, Bitcoin network, not about Bitcoin wallets.

Trust wallet is not a good one.
Reason?
It's a close source wallet.

Recommendations on good wallets are open source, and non custodial.

Why? Without a clear understanding of decentralization, disagreements can arise. For example, such wallets are generally referred to as non-custodial.

So, based on your experience, which decentralised wallet has lived up to the hype and is still performing well despite its setbacks?
Electrum. I don't find any significant shortcomings in this wallet (for myself) when using bitcoin.

I'll go first. I have been using Trust Wallet, and it has been pretty nice.
I also use Trust Wallet (mobile version). But what's wrong with this wallet?

By the way, regarding decentralization: Trust Wallet has been part of the Binance ecosystem since 2018. Wink

But I need another one; that's why I started this thread.
I guess you also need a multi-currency wallet, right?

So, which one are you currently using that you're not ready to let go of anytime soon?

Note: I'm not asking about hardware wallets.
As already mentioned above, electrum, but this wallet only supports bitcoin (if we don’t talk about other versions of the wallet that support, for example, LTC or XVG).

OP probably meant self-custodial wallet rather than decentralized one.

For desktop my choices so far are Sparrow and Bitcoin Core for regular use, Liana occasionally, and Bitcoin Safe (currently testing).

On my phone I use BlueWallet and Electrum  but not very often because I'm tied to my hardware wallets which have their own companion apps.

Trust wallet is one of the worst bitcoin wallet that I gave used. I do not know about altcoins, bit for bitcoin, I can not use the wallet. There was a time that I check the bitcoin servers on the wallet, just only one that I saw. Best to stay away from the wallet.

I use Electrum and Sparrow on computer, although I also have Cake wallet on it.
I use Bluewallet and Electrum on my phone. Electrum is not available on iOS.

Note: I'm not asking about hardware wallets.

Since you've noted that you aren't asking about hardware wallets then the only option left is a open source non-custodial wallet that I personally use till now for fast payments online, the name is unstoppable wallet, it's a very cool wallet with zero to none bugs available, I've been following their team since 2021 and they have never failed to deliver.

The second option on my list is Electrum wallet, I was a user but later Unstoppable wallet stole me over, they have features more than Electrum wallet but they both work amazingly well,  mind you, I've only used both on Android phones, no PC and I even feel like running wallets on android is a bit safer than someone who is running these wallets on a PC, the problem is PC easily get infected, and you know, storing coins on a wallet that's running on PC then using that same PC to browse the internet is never a good idea.

We can decided to make use of a decentralized wallet for our security and safety, while it is also necessary for us to understand a safety precaution that must also be considered when doing this, the storage means to our Private key is also important because we need to maintain a high level of privacy to avoid any third party interference to our walletet access or keys, so if you make use of a non-custodial open source wallet, also considered using a safety measure to safeguard your private keys from third party.

I don't think "decentralized" wallet is the right term for this context. I think it's a non custodial wallet that is open source.
I use Blue Wallet. It's good and very easy to use. Even a beginner can use it.
When I joined this forum, I got introduced to Electrum. I use it too, but it's only on my computer. Since I don't take my computer everywhere, I use the Blue wallet more.

For me, I just use the Blockstream wallet and their mobile app. It's very straightforward. Before, this was called the "Green" wallet. It gets the job done. Only Bitcoin. I'm already content and happy using this kind of Bitcoin wallet. I know there are still lot out there are simpler.

I used to use that word decentralised in the past.
Today it doesn't sit well for me, non-custodial is the right word I believe.

If you want total control over your Bitcoin what you need is a non-custodial and of cos complete open source bitcoin wallet, there are few ones that look like open source but they aren't, Trust wallet is on that list.

I hate trust wallet not because of the breach that happened somewhile ago on their add-on wallet for browser but for that simple fact that they are misleading beginners.

I expected them to be the one advising startup crypto wallet projects about total control but instead they are the one slacking behind, they are giving beginners the option to store their recovery seed into clouds.

This is a crime, because why would they let such happen? To let people trust custodial services even more? To make ETFs look like a good idea for many? They are promoting everything custodial and centralisation to beginners, that's not good.

Your recommendations are excellent wallets but they are mostly Bitcoin focused wallet. Electrum UI is very technical especially for beginners. Cake wallet is not friendly when it comes to fees. Sparrow is a PC only wallet for advanced users.

My point is, every wallet has its shortcomings. Trust wallet is the easiest when it comes to onboarding because of it multichain support. I believe people can look for more secured alternatives as they advanced in the journey.

I don't trust trust wallet. They lack the very thing they advertise, trust. They should have named it untrust wallet. That would suit them better. Who knows what kind of filth they are running in the background? Are you out of your mind? Delete that shit quick fast in a hurry.

For bitcoin, electrum is fine. For shitcoins, who cares. They are shit anyway.

So, which one are you currently using that you're not ready to let go of anytime soon?
They are generally considered as non-custodial but inside the non-custodial space, we still have the open- source  and the non open-source.  On the forum , we prefer the open-sourced ones over the closed ones .

Currntly, i have only Electrum, Cake installed on my PC. while on my mobile, I use Electrum, Cake, Blue and unstoppable wallet and a couple of close -source wallet .

My favourite on both end is still Electrum. I'm  quite satisfied with every feature it offers.

I don't kiss ass of people that did people's dirty and Binance ecosystem are used to this for very long, there are victims crying on X how they loss their money with Trust wallet extension and are probably abandoned. I bet if you are around them, you will feel their pain. The devs are useless if indeed one person from them could do that kind of backdoor and the rest of the team aren't aware of his plans until it went successfully but it's not surprising, this is what you get when something is closed source.

Quote

I can't tell you read between lines OP.

This is Bitcoin discussion board, it was a Bitcoin discussion and there was no place in OP post where he mentioned altcoins or multi chains, he didn't indicate anywhere. If it was the mod wouod have move it elsewhere where the topic fit.

Cake wallet is not friendly? Which cake wallet are you talking about? https://cakewallet.com, this same cake wallet? It seems you don't have cake wallet. Just so you know, cake wallet is an open source like bluewallet but supports other coins.

This is Cake wallet advanced feature to set and customize transaction fee, I don't know what you are talking about fees that are not friendly.

There are many other multi chains supported wallet that are better than Trust wallet and are open source. I guess we are been fool for long on how they did with their marketing to gain people's trust.

I use trust wallet and I have been thinking about changing my wallet for a few days and I have decided to start using electrum wallet. Electrum wallet is much better and provides more benefits than trust wallet. Everyone gives more importance to their security and Electrum wallet is very reliable or I can say strong for security. Electrum wallet is completely decentralized and it is very light and fast.

Electrum is not vulnerable as of now, but do it think if you are using it, that your coins are secure or safe. It is an online wallet, you also need to protect it by reading about how to avoid malware and hackers generally.

Electrum can be on an airgapped device which is highly safer because it is a cold wallet, but avoid clipboard malware.

I don't used Trust Wallet anymore and leaving some altcoins which is not worth anymore. I moves to Electrum, BlueWallet and Unstoppable wallet. That is enough for me to keep Bitcoin there and also some altcoins in Unstoppable wallet. I don't use that phone for my daily activities and also not connected to the Internet very often and only to make a transaction occasionally.

I don't understand about decentralization accurately, it's about Bitcoin blockchain, Bitcoin network, not about Bitcoin wallets.

People have been hammered with all those decentralized finance, markets, websites, so they are starting to add decentralized to everything!
There is no such thing as a decentralized wallet, unless you run yourself multiple instances of the same one on different computers and each must validate transactions before being broadcast, which is pure nonsense!

Wallets are:
- custodial /non-custodial
- open source /closed source
and that's it!

Without wasting your time with the definition of decentralisation and what it stands for, let's dive into the actual talk.

Well , no, we should actually be talking about it because the whole rest doesn't make an ounce of sense!
