What is wrong with Africa teams?

African teams in this knockout stage of the world cup have not played to expected end after early lead up to second half, why?

In my opinion, there are several problems faced by African teams in the 2026 World Cup, in general they have difficulty maintaining their lead at the end of the match. It could be said to be inefficient against European and American teams, although there are also other factors that are odd in each match.

Talking about the physical factors of the African team in the first half they played with energy, but in the last minutes they ran out of energy, I saw that the African team also often experienced a loss of focus in the final minutes. thus often ending up losing dramatically having difficulty maintaining their lead.

Likewise with other factors, such as injustice and controversy, this is also one of the factors why the African team failed at the 2026 World Cup, especially the referee's decision where we can see the referee treating the opposing team or certain star players preferentially. The only hope for the African team that is left behind and defending is Morocco, that is the last hope after Egypt lost yesterday against Argentina.

Hassan made wrong substitutions after their second goal, which left their backline asleep, for a player like Messi, it's always nice to hold a powerful backline till the game ends, Argentina has won, they pressed much better in the game, but Egypt was smart enough to utilize counter attacking opportunities. The points with people talking about FIFA taking sides with Argentina was Infantino's facial reaction when Argentina conceded their second goal, coupled with the unchecked foul play the Argentine players had on the Egyptian players.

The African team showed strength at this tournament, and even being stopped by other teams in the playoffs doesn't diminish their achievement. I'm glad they've reached this stage, and I'm confident they'll play even better football in future tournaments and advance. I think they were just a bit unlucky in the early stages of the playoffs; just remember the match between Belgium and Senegal, where they came up just short of victory. But that's real football, where everything can change in an instant.

All Black/Brown Africans did not make it up to round of 32. Three among them or so were winning, but at almost 90 minutes the opponents scored and later won. Senegal was the country we were looking up to that might be better among them, after 2 goals, the match later changed starting from 86th minutes or so and the opponent won.

Egypt and Morocco made it to round of 16, but Egypt made the mistake that the Black/Brown Africans made and lost to Argentina. Only remaining Morocco and you posted that they tried when we know that France is better than Morocco. In my own opinion, they do not try.

There is nothing wrong with Africa team not like they are not good I guess the problem is the preparation and usually some skills especially at the finals, because that stage is a very critical one and it requires so much skill to scale through. I have noticed this issue in years but it baffles me that nothing has been done about it, halfway they are strong but can make it to the final, they feel too relaxed to look into this issue, because they are in a better position to know where they are lacking, all they need is to start working on the right techniques or approach to end this, and write the story.

The thing with football is that leading with goals like 2 goals is quite demanding most especially when the goals come in early, the ability of the team to protect their defense become question of how well the team communicates and tactically positions, even with the penalty awarded to L Messi of Argentina did not really add up untie after the first half when Egypt began to concede goals rapidly until the Argentina team made 3 goals, this can only happen with a club that have a top player like L Messi providing assistance and coordinating their attacking line.

From my own point of view, I think the issue is squad depth and poor substitutions. I would love to blame it on the coaches, but I wont because the coaches are left with limited players who can keep the tempo of the game till the end. I saw it with Senegal, and I saw it with Egypt. The players that started the game got exhausted. As the substitute came in, they didn't understand the tempo. Before they could adapt to the game, their opponent would start scoring. I think Morocco is the only African team that has that squad depth to go for the World Cup.

There are many things that could result to a team loosing the match they would have won. Sometimes, when a team score too early, the players, and coach could feel over confident believing they are going to win, now instead of maintaining their initial form to the end, the coach will begin to make changes removing players that are supposed to play the match to the end.
Another factor that can make a team loose when they are supposed to win is injury of a crutial player, when a good player is injured, the substitute may not be able to perform as the former player, and such thing can create lapses, and can make a team loose match.
As for the match between Argentina, and Egypt, I would say Egypt lost to Argentina as a result of overconfidence, otherwise, at 78 minutes, they would have defended their goal, instead they felt they have already won the match, but ended up loosing to Argentina forgetting Argentina has a good team too.

There is no one to blame for these African teams, they have fought, we must appreciate that even though in the end the struggle ended in disappointment, basically we also have to realize that their opponents are on a different level, and when continuously rained down attacks, solid defense will slowly be penetrated, remember implementing a defensive strategy is very tiring, the players must continue to focus. African teams perform very well at the beginning of the game and are ahead of the opposite team, but as time goes by their game starts to downfall which is their biggest problem. All the teams that have performed against African teams may not have played well at the beginning, but by the end of the game, they have become much stronger than the African team and they have achieved victory through this. Before the end of the match, any opposite team becomes aggressive and at that time the African team's game starts to downfall and the opposite team is using this opportunity.

Op! There's nothing wrong with africa teams, that's football for you. Although thier performances lately is quite questionable, for example; Argentina vs Egypt imagine Egypt was leading with 2 goals in the 70th minutes then I was very confident that egypt would qualify. But I was surprised when I Left my room only for me to return back and discovered that argentina has equalized the two goals, and the funniest part is they even won, it was indeed a very nice come back for argentin and a very surprising one. Now it's only one africa team remaining and that's morocco if I'm not mistake who knows how things is going to play for them.

Buddy, your start up said nothing wrong with African teams but you ended up admitting that you were surprised at the rate of goals conceded in a short time hahaha. But the reason for the questions on the op is that, it happened in other African teams and not just Egypt. African teams start up very well and lead their opponent but when they are suppose to hold their ground at the last 20 minutes to FT, you see them falling like bricks. That is the issue here.

So I see that they lack tactics to confront the voracious attack of losing opponent. My surprise is why are the foreign coaches from Europe not able to implore strategy for that. It happened with African coach too. Africans should learn this next time. I understand it is football but it happened "one time too many".

Morocco has once again advanced past the Round of 16 and will face France, a very strong team. Whether they win or not is up to them; the possibility is there. Egypt's come-from-behind defeat is truly inexplicable; however, it was not impossible, and there were questionable decisions. It could simply be the complaint of someone unable to accept defeat or a more serious case of actual favoritism; it is impossible to say.

Yeah this cannot be called absolute failure. These African teams have proven that they are capable of fighting at world stage. I've seen they easily took point away from big team in group stage and pushing superpower to brink is no small feat. You know, Morocco is still flying their flag which is really awesomee

In my opinion African team should invest better in their youth academy. Also they can use fitness and sport science program to maintain stamina. Player should be given more opportunity to play in European league so that they can improve tactically.

Anyway, I want to give credit to all African team who fought well including Egypt, Senegal, DR Congo. They actually made African proud. They should learn from these mistake and come back stronger next world cup.

African teams have some of the best raw talent and physical strength in the world, but they always choke when it matters most. It is so frustrating to watch them dominate the group stages or quarterfinals, only to lose their focus completely as they get closer to the final.
Like you said, it is all about preparation, tactical discipline, and mental strength under pressure. At the highest level, you cannot win on skills alone; you need the right strategy and a killer instinct. African football federations really need to stop getting complacent just because they had a decent run. They must hire elite tactical coaches and invest heavily in sports psychology to fix this issue. Until they improve their technical approach and stay sharp for the full 90 minutes, winning a World Cup will remain just a dream. They have everything they need to make history, they just need to change their mindset.

There is everything new in African football recently. Sincerely, they are doing well. Alot of things are  changing and African football, I must confess is advance. African teams weren't able to play European teams they way they do now. They are really improving and it's a good thing for them. We saw Senegal advance to the quarter finals for the first time I'm 2002 Korea Japan FIFA world cup, and The Black stars of Ghana also advancing to the quarters too either 2006 or 2010, I can't remember. Now, just in previous tournament, Morocco played in the semi's, loosing and also playing the 3rd place, I think for the first time in African history, though they lost, but it was a great fit for them.  And now, they are already in the quarter finals, preparing to face France, the 2018 world cup winners, and the 2022 second placed team. If you ask me, I see African countries doing better than the world has placed them, and it's a plus for them.

I had made my own statement earlier before now. What happened to Egypt was expected by me. It was foreseen by me. Argentina remains Fifa's favorite club so any club that will beat them must come very prepared with its A game and not allow themselves to lose focus. When Egypt was leading I was happy for them but was also scared of any possible come back because I believed that Argentina can win over them and my guess came to pass. It is really sad coming from the side of Argentina for the Egyptian players but football is brutal and does not pity any team. In football, if you show weakness, you will be messed with by the opponents, so you need to be strong at all cost.

I don’t even know if Defensive error is the cause of African countries in this World Cup. Why is it that their Defenders are not always making errors at the beginning of matches, their errors are always coming towards the ending of the match, if you can stop your opponents from scoring at the beginning of the match, why will you allow them score when the match is just about to end.

How did Egypt allow Argentina to score 3 goals yesterday? I don’t really know what happened to Egypt defense towards the end of the match, but I will say maybe they were just to relaxed after they scored their second goal, and Argentina took advantage of that and scored 3 goals towards the ending of the match.

Its true, football is very unpredictable, as it might affect one's mental health because one might be rejoicing that their team have are trying or winning and all of sudden things change, their celebration turns to something else, where the atmosphere will suddenly change. But, sincerely African teams really try and even if they didn't get to the finals, at least they played really hard than the last time and that means they will still try harder than the way they did this season.
