However, a friend called and told me about his pending transaction on bitcoin, though this transaction was not a direct transaction but a withdrawal from and exchange to another but however  have the address scanned an I saw that the transaction has been pending for 2 hours and still counting.

My curiosity is the fact that he initiated the same amount and the send transaction arrived while the other is still pending. What could be the reason? I have my suspicions but want to hear from others why did the transaction stay that long not confirmed yet?

I don’t quite understand your question but there is no time limit that transactions can be confirmed, they can remain unconfirmed for upto like 14 days if the fee set is low and isn’t prioritized by the miners, if this was a self custody wallet it will be easily resolved by RBF or CPFP. But for exchange your friend just have to wait

Support of the exchange is the best chance to get this issue resolved, sometimes delay like this happen in a transaction and if you don't call the support attention to it that transactions will remain unconfirmed until it worked on.


I experienced this kind of delay before with my Bitcoin transaction from exchange to my wallet and after 3 days of unsuccessful transactions I had to contact the exchange for help.

We have so many threads with long interactions that are no longer making sense I don’t want this to be one of them. So I prefer to get the contributions that are necessary and lock.

For the RBF and CPFP I know all that but it’s an exchange.

The other transaction, which was initiated by your friend, was it from the same exchange? Or different exchanges, as some exchanges can be very greedy in terms of handling transactions fee. Each time you make a withdrawal, they add it to other withdrawal requests, making the input a long list, and they will still send the transaction with a low fee, and some of such transactions can take up to 8 hrs; 2 hrs is less, as I have witnessed this type last time I received a bitcoin payment from cashapp.

Yes I understand why you want to lock it, what I don’t understand is the time duration you put out, so what if you don’t get the right answer to question in an hours time will you still lock the thread? I think thread been locked is once after the purpose of the thread has been achieved and not timely basis

If you are referring to a single transaction and while in one exchange it's showing confirmed and the other pending.

Then this is because every exchanges has the number of confirmation they see in the Bitcoin Network before they can say it's confirmed.

Perfect!!! I guess that’s the scenario that played out because it didn’t just take 2 hours, it took longer than that I don’t know how long but it was a really long time. That’s the only thing that can explain this.

And yeah it was same exchange with a matter of minutes difference.

Yes I understand why you want to lock it, what I don’t understand is the time duration you put out, so what if you don’t get the right answer to question in an hours time will you still lock the thread? I think thread been locked is once after the purpose of the thread has been achieved and not timely basis

And luckily, the purpose of the thread has been met within an hour and I used 1 hour because we have experienced users all over the forum so an hour is enough for them to find the thread and respond to it in my opinion.
