I don't know if this has been talked about here before, but it’s been on my mind for some days now.

Many times as gamblers, we choose to just flow with the fun and excitement we get from it. By doing that, we don't have to think or worry too much about the losses we incur.

But if we look at it closely, gambling is ultimately an expense. Shouldn't we be keeping a proper record of exactly how much we put into a casino and lose, versus how much we actually make when we win?
Gambling is an expense, but not ultimately expensive if you gamble with the amount you can afford to lose, and not doing so is the reason why a gambler will think he ought to keep a record of his wins and losses, when the over time result of gambling is always not in favor of gamblers due to the house edge.

I was thinking that this kind of habit would benefit us in several ways. For one, it helps you know if your gambling risk is getting too high, allowing you to pivot or budget a much smaller amount so you don't end up blowing through your hard earned income on casino games.
We can determine whether our gambling is risky by how we manage our bankroll and, in certain situations, by simply downloading the history of our gambling transactions.
Writing down wins and losses, in my opinion, could have a negative impact on our gambling psychology if the losses exceed the wins.

In my opinion, regardless of how it should be more fun, I do think it is wise to keep both your winning and loses.

I literally learned something from my bet slip I placed just the other day,  I can't wait to reapply what I learnt. It feels good to go back and see what I should have predicted when things didn't go my way.
It is not mandatory for everyone. Most people would delete records of failed tickets as for me I don't do that, I try to learn from them.
That's good, learning from your past losses or wins helps one to learn some things to apply it in their next bet, although it actually helps, even if its not guarantee to go the way one wants all the time but at least, it will make one to retrace their steps and know where they go wrong or where they do the right thing and that shows that gambling is both fun and learning, which also means you are in control of your habits in gambling, and some people don't really understand this techniques.

Every single gambler has their own preferences whether they need to track their gambling funds or not. For me, I do not need to have a strict record of every single win and loss, there is no good reason for me to do it and I think it is complicated thing to do especially if we do gamble frequently. These days, most casinos provide statistic that can be requested by players so players can check their statistic in specific period of time like daily, weekly or monthly. I think it is simpler than keeping a strict record of every single win and loss.
Good one, but the truth is just that if one did not stay strict in doing the right thing in gambling, that's means they need to apply the right mindset towards gambling and staying strict to it, its the right way to keep record of how they gamble. So, if they decide to keep their record of their losses or wins without having the right mindset, they might end up hurting themselves, as they they might lose their control as they might decide to chase after their losses, if their loss will be more than their wins.

Thats the most important is to have the mindset on which of course that it should be getting in line on what you do really want to do and on the things you've been trying out to avoid. There's a difference of mindset at the moment that you do play before and on the moment that you do play after on which it is that subject to change and thats something you do need up to watch out if you dont want to messed up yourself with gambling specially with addiction. Having a tracking is important because not all people wouldnt really be that trying out to take action if they dont able to see their records but actually it would be that impossible that you cant be able to determine whether you are losing or winning up that much but of course knowing gambling then this isnt the case or simply most gamblers ending up on becoming a loser at the end.

I agree, there's no guarantee when you are inside gambling but from your past experienced you may learned to adjust, and it will help also in terms of tracking the numbers, if you are curious and a type of a conservative gambler you may use those records to keep you being updated with how your balance moves, and it's a important factors, money management helps to minimize your potential losses and a vice versa if you are in the winning streaks.

To add to this, I feel like tracking your stats acts as a massive reality check. Our brains naturally love to remember the massive 100x wins but conveniently "forget" the ten times we reloaded our wallets after a bad run. Plus, since most of us are using crypto here, it is easier to make deposits without thinking too much. If you don't track your bankroll, you're basically flying blind.

How many of you actually keep a notebook record, or use the casino's built in stats tool to track your net profit/loss? Or do you just deposit, play, and prefer not to know the exact numbers for the sake of your peace of mind?

Fun and excitement is the purpose of gambling for some people but we have loads of more people who are into gambling for money making reasons only, I believe it is them who need to keep record of losses and wins in gambling.

For those who want entertainment and fun they have no reason to, for them it's just another day of buying tickets to go and watch movies in a nearby cinema, who keeps record of money spent on movie tickets anyways.

Do you keep record of money spent on early morning coffee drinks? Exactly, people who risks less on gambling feels contented with what they have, those who aren't satisfied keep running around unnecessarily.

That's a good one, as you follow the right rules while gambling, it can decide to fall in your place or not, and have the understanding of how the game works helps one to prevent themselves making or taking decisions that won't be of help to them in anyway, because it might lead them to destruction of they ignore the right path, as the game will always be in the favour of the house edge and deciding to chase or fight them can drive one crazy but, if you stick in following the right path, you know its not worth chasing after losses.

That's the right way if you want to be successful in gambling you need to make sure things are okay and are listed so that you can track if you are winning or losing, and at the same time you know when to stop gambling and play the next day, some people think its a lot of work but if you will see things correctly, its a strategy that can help and make you grow, as a person and as a professional gambler.
If you will compare those who play without control and on what you are doing there is high chance that you profited better than them, when it comes to gambling.

As for me I don't really think is health wise to keep records of your winnings and loosing most especially your loosing that kind of record can cause one's health because when you begin to realize the amount of money you have lost so far in gambling you might get sick or depressed so I don't advise anyone to keep such records, we all know that gambling is a game of looses and winnings so whichever way you find yourself leave it like that, atleast gambling should be seen as a game of entertainment and fun so whatever one looses should not be recorded.

As for myself I don't keep transactional records of my gambling, I just bet on teams after proper analysis, team performances, odds and then bet and if I win I'm glad that's how it's supposed to be because gambling is not an investment that you begin to count looses and gains as winning is never guaranteed.

There is no need to necessary keep gambling records since we can find it on the casino in the history section depending on the casino and how they arange their games and user's information. It is also good to keep these information and keep the record on a book on how we have been making profits and losing bets from month to month so it can help us understand what we have been doing.

It may be easy to put up, to keep records of your gambling wins and losses. But to stick to such, is where the problem lies for someone who tends to gamble twice or more than every week.

I think, going by mapping out a little amount like 2%-5% of your weekly income will help in knowing how many losses and wins you have made so far. Although it will give you a clear view of your standing in gambling, whether on the losing side or the winning side. Your findings will give you an idea of how much you have lost in gambling

This can be a load of work for some lazy gamblers like me especially when I don't take gambling so serious like a real job or source of income, although there are some months or weeks when I have more free time to gamble but still I don't risk any money that was never budgeted for the purpose of gambling, at time what even makes me risk so much is when I have won a huge amount and I decided to withdraw just part of the money and leave the other one on the casino then I will end up spend all at times. I was reckless before but I'm very careful now, so I don't think I really need the record keeping.

If you're a careful player and are cautious when depositing funds, and know you're only depositing with money you can easily afford to lose, then I don't think keeping records is necessary. It could be a waste of time without significant benefit. If you know you can control yourself, don't view gambling as a way to make money, and only play with small amounts of money, then it's not worth the time. Unless you treat it as a game, a strategy, and truly enjoy it.

Yes, it has been discussed as a thread like this in the forum. If only the gambler want to hurt himself, then it is good to keep and store gambling history because later on when come back to see those records, it will hurt you badly. But you can't retrieve them back and you didn't loss them in one sitting or gambling but accumulated lost. As for me not others I will not record them. Because it of no use for me.

How many of you actually keep a notebook record, or use the casino's built in stats tool to track your net profit/loss? Or do you just deposit, play, and prefer not to know the exact numbers for the sake of your peace of mind?
First of all, I think this topic has been discussed. Personally, I don't have any other reason to gamble than having fun and entertainment, so I don't usually keep a notebook at all, because gambling is purely unpredictable, anything is possible at any time. Sometimes we need to know that gambling depends on luck, because without it on your side, nothing else can change the outcome of the game. That's why we need to approach it as a way of having fun with a small amount that wouldn't affect you down the line.

I don't know if this has been talked about here before, but it’s been on my mind for some days now.

Reality hurts, as they say, but from the very beginning, if you are already into gambling, you should understand the risk.

That record is not a bad thing. It is a guide to know how you are really doing in gambling, and from there, you can decide whether you still want to continue being ambitious or just lay low and become more conservative.

That way, you can still have fun with fewer losses. You do not need to think about big-time wins anymore, at least not in a consistent way.

I was reckless before but I'm very careful now, so I don't think I really need the record keeping.

if I have to work, this is obviously my philosophy, it's not for me
if I have to have fun, I have to relax and not work, as my dearest friend Norma always says, fun must be a pleasure and not something that bothers you otherwise something is wrong..

That's a good one, as you follow the right rules while gambling, it can decide to fall in your place or not, and have the understanding of how the game works helps one to prevent themselves making or taking decisions that won't be of help to them in anyway, because it might lead them to destruction of they ignore the right path..
I agree to some extent. If you track your results and don’t go beyond your limits, you’re already much more disciplined than many gamblers. When you know exactly how much you've deposited, how much you've withdrawn, and where you stand overall, it's much easier to make rational decisions instead of emotional ones—and to know when it's time to walk away.
That said, I wouldn't automatically assume it leads to bigger profits. Even perfect discipline doesn't change the fact that, in most casino games, the house has a mathematical edge.

I think that the biggest benefit of tracking everything isn't that it guarantees you'll make money. I I think that it helps you stay on top of your bankroll, avoid the temptation to chase losses, and stick to your spending limits. In the long run, that's what keeps gambling fun instead of letting it get out of control.

<..snip..>
But if we look at it closely, gambling is ultimately an expense. Shouldn't we be keeping a proper record of exactly how much we put into a casino and lose, versus how much we actually make when we win?

There was actually a similar thread posted regarding tracking your losses on your games.

Like what I mentioned on that post, it taught me on how to be responsible with my finances. It made me realize that I was spending way too much in prioritizing my gambling habits rather than my obligations. It also made me realize that I was spending tremendous amounts of money to the point of being financially irresponsible.

Sure it's fun to see your wins/losses but you can definitely utilize it as a tool and as your daily reminder of your gambling habits especially if you add everything altogether. At first I thought that I was actually profiting on my games until I've totaled everything which made me swallow my pride at the end.

I remember the story of Albert Einstein being asked if he wrote down his important thoughts and ideas. Albert Einstein replied, "I have so few truly important thoughts and ideas that I don't need to write them down. I remember them!"💁

Yes, I know that many people keep meticulous records of their income and expenses, write down all their current tasks and meetings in a calendar, and create weekly, monthly, and annual plans, budgets, and profit and loss reports. This is called time management, and in my opinion, it's incredibly boring!

For me, gambling is fun. I don't take it too seriously. I don't want to turn a fun game into hard and tedious work. That's why I don't keep track of my wins and losses. However, I do remember the truly important things related to gambling (just like the great Albert Einstein).🙋
