There is no statement about how the case was settled in the content of the report, which I could have found very interesting to see how the judge handling the case ruled on it.

The guy might be the one making all the bets and spending the money, but we should not also undermine the role of some offers when it comes directly through phone calls on a regular basis.

Not everyone can be able to handle that, especially when the person is already on an addiction stage, so the sportsbook should take responsibility for some of his losses to some extent too.

I disagree with your belief, even though Draftkings sportsbook VIP hosts bombarded the guy with calls and emails, which led the guy to gamble away the money he saved up for his wedding, I don't think Draftkings should take responsibility for the guy losses because they don't force him to gamble, he gamble at his own will and lost his money, and had been he doubled his money there's no way he would had sued Draftkings so he should take responsible for his losses.
The job of the DraftKings sportsbook staff is to inform gamblers of new advertisements. There is no reason to blame the casino for such advertising campaigns. Because no matter how much the bookies encourage a gambler to gamble, if the gambler has proper self-control, he will never gamble at their word. I also want to put the blame entirely on the person here. Gambling was never a way to make money. It is just a place for entertainment. Still, he gambled using his important money. Of course, no sportsbook would advise gamblers to gamble using all their assets. They would just inform gamblers of their new offers. So there is no point in blaming DraftKings.

If someone is shilling to me what I don't like, and I don't want to be receiving such thing, I will simply block all the means the person is using to reach out to me. But for him not to block the casino from calling and emailing him, he was very much okay with what the casino was doing in the first place, I believe he must have won big amount of money through that process and I also believe he is blaming Draftkings for his losses and demanding for damage so that his intended wife won't see him as gambling addict who blows away their wedding money, and leave him.
These players can come up with anything because they put the game above everything else, even wedding money. I've never understood this, but apparently this isn't the last time, as players are increasingly showing the extreme measures they're willing to take just to win back their losses. Of course, I understand that it all started out harmlessly, because this player just wanted to win a little or have a fun time, but then it escalated more and more until he finally decided to bet everything, and of course, that was his last act. It's better to learn from his mistakes and not try to win back his losses. He didn't want that either, but his emotions and thirst for the game got the better of him.

The calls and emails could be very offensive. Immediately, these casinos identify someone as a big spender; they might assign personal representatives to keep in contact with the person. But there is always an avenue to stop receiving these promotional messages. Their phone numbers and emails can be blocked to avoid further communication.
One thing that is very common about frustrated gamblers is that they never blame themselves for their contribution to the mess they created for themselves; they are always making excuses for their poor decision-making skills. You are right, he could have simply blocked them. Gambling with his wedding funds proves that he played a significant role in his problems and is now trying to fix the problem he caused.

Although I still think that DraftKings was a bit too radical with their marketing approach, they still have a chance to prove that their marketing style is clearly stated in their ToS. They can debunk any of these claims made against them. If they can't prove that, then they will pay for the damages.
