The same thought, OP, that the guy should be the one accountable for his actions. I think the other gamblers will also do the same thing from these lawsuits of other gamblers when the bets don't become successful, and all of them lose. That leads them to resort to themselves that they should sue the bookies if they're losing their funds entirely for an important matter wherein fact that they're the ones who willingly gamble and spend the money. I feel bad for the guy. But I will definitely criticize him for gambling with his wedding fund. It was a terrible decision and he should take responsibility for it. After playing all day and then sued the casino cause you lost? If you had won a big jackpot, would you have walked away without it? So you chose to gamble, so you accepted the risk that came with it.

Still, I think many platform should improve their self exclusion tool. And when a gambler is clearly losing control they need to stop offering him one bonus after another. I have found that responsible gambling only works when both player and casino behave responsibly. In this case casinos should also have some legal responsibility.

There was no self-exclusion in this case. The gambler had VIP status, so it is normal that he became a target of those who are in charge of marketing.

The casino would not know or maybe even care whether the funds he used for gambling were wedding money or not. So I think they will have no responsibility in this case.

Think about this, what if the opposite happened? What if that million had won? Would he still complain?
I think sometimes we are too quick to blame the casino, but the casino should also be protected in this kind of situation if it is not really their fault.

Extremely aggressive in what way exactly? Casinos got a business to promote, if you are a adult that can't control themselves do not gamble, some people are lost souls that they don't even know who they are.

For me its the guy fault. With whatever means a casino did their promotions or marketing even its annoying remember that the final button and decision is always on the user. The guy can avoid it if he really dont want too but instead losses a huge money on his gambling attempt. Means he also wanted to do gambling and why would he complain afterwards he losses it? Every gambler should be held accountable for their actions, not rush to court after losses. If bookmaker employees who overly pushed their services are held accountable, then sue all the world's marketers, PR people, and advertisers. After all, they, too, "force" us to do things we don't want to do.

Indeed the situation is just so funny. And you know one thing about being frustrated is that, you will just start acting very unusaul honestly, doing things in such a way that won't just make sense. When he was enjoying himself placing bet here and there he didn't knows wat was attached to it, but now that all isn't well maybe things didn't goes as planned he want to make up a case out of it. Maybe this is actually his own way of learning new things, and if he luckily escapes this one he we be very careful when he hear the name called gamble.

That's his problem to be honest, the casino isn't at fault here, there are babies who never grew at all, a big part of them still has that baby brain functioning in them, their body grows but not their mind or their brain, what can make a man who wants to get married risked his wedding money like this? It seems like if he has a good lawyer, he can win the case. I am not an expert on case law, but I know in general terms that the adversarial nature of the judicial process is much more pronounced there than in Roman law. If we talk from the point of view of common sense, then of course this person was extremely irresponsible, to the extent that he acquired a strong gambling addiction.

It is always easier for people to justify themselves by shifting all the blame for what is happening to anyone. Moreover, lawyers are people who are willing to defend anyone who pays them for money. Joint participation in their own justification will turn the meaning around and justify this dependent player, moreover, to demand compensation. I always find it funny to look at such stories. How weak does one have to be to be influenced by calls, offers, and other promotional tricks in order to succumb to the temptation to lose such a large amount of money in this way? An Illinois man filed a lawsuit against DraftKings, alleging that the sports betting company led him to gamble away millions of dollars — including money he had saved for his wedding — which ultimately led to him being dismissed from his job and contemplating suicide.

Dane Miller of Cook County created a DraftKings account around October 2020 when he was 26 years old, and by May 2021 had become a VIP member, according to documents filed in Chicago federal court on June 24 and reviewed by PEOPLE.

DraftKings did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

In the complaint, Miller and his attorney, Yvonne Flaherty, accused DraftKings of breaching policies by creating a product that was “highly addictive and lacking in proper safeguards.”

He started with “small wagers and straight bets,” claiming that “the number and volume of wagers Miller placed on DraftKings quickly escalated” beyond his control as “multiple personal VIP hosts” bombarded him with calls, emails and other forms of communication.

“The constant prompts, access, and live-feeds, along with the rapid-fire pace of bets and the personalized attention directed to Miller, fueled an addiction that eventually consumed all aspects of Miller’s life,” per the document.

“For example, after gambling away the money he had saved for his wedding, one of Plaintiff’s DraftKings VIP hosts offered Miller two tickets to a suite at Soldier Field in recognition of his continued loyalty to DraftKings,” the complaint read.

Miller and Flaherty also argued that the company played a role in his addiction by manipulating the brain’s dopamine receptors.

He ultimately placed more than $2 million in wagers while using the platform.

To feed his addiction, Miller took out “personal loans, credit cards, 401(k) loans, and used his wedding money to fund his frequent online sports betting” before he was terminated by his employer in September 2024.

His father tried to intervene that same month, asking him to self-exclude through the State of Illinois, which Miller declined.

Self-exclusion is when an individual requests that a business — often a casino or gambling platform — ban them from using its services or entering its premises for a set period of time.

On Oct. 29, 2024, Miller wrote a suicide note and was admitted to Northwest Community Hospital with suicidal ideation, according to the complaint. His doctors diagnosed him with severe gambling disorder, anxiety and depression.

“DraftKings ignores any signs of problems and, instead, uses the information it gathers to fine-tune and promote its product, which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the comfort (and privacy) of one’s home, school, car, church, work, etc. Users now have a personalized casino in their back pockets,” the complaint alleged.

After treatment, he relapsed and joined DraftKings again before ultimately self-excluding in Illinois on Dec. 21, 2024.

When contacted for more information by PEOPLE, Flaherty said she could not comment on the case since it’s in active litigation.

Flaherty, however, told The Independent that her client has since married and the couple are parents to a young child.

“He’s in recovery, and has been now for many months,” Flaherty said of Miller. “He’s working on his family, he has regained employment, but all of those things took time to repair. It’s an ongoing process.”

Gambling is a game of choice and the decision to engage in gambling is solely by the gambler and no one should be held accountable or responsible for his reckless gambling habits, I think the Young Man should be held liable for his actions and not sueing the gambling company for his looses because he wasn't forced into it, imagine if he has won a lots of money from his gambling with them would he sue the company?,

I won’t completely agree with you on this, yes no casino owes you an explanation when you gamble and lose because it is part of the rules of the game that is why gambling is mostly rated 18+ however, in the above scenario sports book took it too extreme, yes casinos have the right to advertise and draw peoples attention, it is now left for the people to decide whether to chose to gamble or not but for a casino to now be calling him personally and sending him messages is now too extreme, it has actually gone beyond normal advertising and i think the man has the right to sue based on the way they pressured him, it is now looking like the casino forced him against his will because what right does a casino have to be calling or sending a gambler private messages to gamble, that has gone beyond normal advertisement.
