Just doing a little research on the image, I found that it's a BATMTwo machine, which allows converting cash to cryptocurrency. So it's possible that what he was looking for wasn't the "Bitcoin" you're referring to, but rather the cash stored inside the machine. The thief might not have gotten the "Bitcoin" he was hoping for, but at least he could have gotten some cash if someone had recently used the machine to convert their cash to cryptocurrency.
So in other words the thief in question wasn't really acting out of ignorance  that bitcoin isn't a physical cash but was rather with the aim of stealing any available cash that could have being deposited by any one who may have come to convert cash to bitcoin within that period.

I doubt he left the machine without achieving getting any cash because he must have done his maths and knew when could be the right time he can steal some cash since it wasn't like he was actually aiming for bitcoins to steal.

You know that's why I find this whole thread so amusing because almost everyone here have already made a complete judgement for the thief, that he stole the BATM just for the purpose of getting BTC which from every angle he must have done research before carrying out such task so why the hell would his intentions solely be for the Bitcoin rather than the cash that is used as an option to buy Bitcoin to your wallet.

I can't imagine how disappointed the thief was that he didn't find any Bitcoin in the machine. This is why he remained a petty thief. If he were smarter, he would have done proper research before attempting such a crime and would have understood that a Bitcoin ATM does not store any Bitcoin. This would have made him think twice about committing a crime that would likely bring little reward compared to the risks involved.
Many of you people on this thread are getting the whole thing wrong, this is not the first time that bitcoin ATM was stolen, what the thieves are going for is not the bitcoin, the thieves are going for the cash in the ATM. If no cash is in the ATM, that means the thieves are just unlucky and which is very good.

Maybe lack of the idea that Bitcoin is not some physical coin made him do it; he could probably be targeting the cash, which some could have used to make a Bitcoin purchase since some of the machines allow cash deposits, or the thief could also be thinking the keys can be found inside the machine. There might be a lot in his head before making that move of stealing that machine, not just getting the Bitcoin alone, but his disappointment will be on another level.

Yes, there is definitely cash I the machine although it’s not going to be much. We are in the bitcoin atm winter. There are so many machines going offline because of increasing regulations and increased awareness of the scammer activities. These are general bytes machines and it’s a Czech company I believe if I am not mistaken who makes this machine. I wonder where this pic was taken.

I can't stop laughing, I came across this post on x and ever since, I've been like.. WTF...🤣🤣🤣
The situation is really funny.

That's a bitcoin Atm right there, someone stole that ATM, broke it open trying to get the bitcoins out😂😂
You're laughing at the absurdity of the situation right now, but imagine the burglar's disappointment when he didn't find bitcoins inside. Smiley Now he'll definitely start digging deeper into the technical aspects of this asset (unless he decides someone else has already beaten him to it). Smiley

This is the height of ignorance and stupidity I've seen in a long time, and I can't help but imagine his face and what he must be feeling like when he broke this machine and found no bitcoins inside, I can imagine him saying "whoa whoa, where did all the coins go?"  Grin Grin
This ATM should have been equipped with a camera to capture the burglar's puzzled expression. Smiley

By the way, what kind of wallet (for storing coins) for bitcoins did he take with him? Wink

What do you think about this incident?
I think technically, such an ATM could have cash inside if such a payment method is optional.

Please note that there is even a slot for banknotes with a corresponding picture.

I've been looking for this comment and finally here is it.

People literally drop in some cash or use credit cards just to convert it  to sats  sent to a destination address provided or withdraw through similar process . Literally how ATM should work, you can deposit to an account or withdraw a cash.

The operation was likely to get the cash people withdraw if it trully dispense some cash or get the cash people deposit in it if it accepts cash.

From the design, it easy to tell that it accepts some cash btw, what I'm not sure is the dispensing aspect .

You’ve really got to wonder what they were thinking while they were hammering that electronic device. It’s actually funny how someone thought they would hammer to the point where they would find a gold and shiny coin stamped “₿” and then scream “we’re rich!!!!!!”, what an irony. The fact that they couldn’t even understand the obvious difference between the modern digital finance and the old times logic feels like while they are living in this modern world, their mindset are three decades backwards.

If their minds were actually following up with modern awareness they’ll understand that the only physical asset that is real and could be found in a Bitcoin ATM is the cash (fiat) that could be deposited by a user, even in cases like this, this machine are GPS tracked and regularly emptied.though people do unbelievable things but this guy went as far as getting hold of that heavy hardware. They risked soo much only to end up with a peice of circuit boards and wires, that was really huge disappointment.

This is actually to keep us informed on how the gap in crypto education still is. This digital currency has been in existence for years now but yet good number of individuals still find it to be a mystery. I still believe that some have thought of things like this but just didn’t have what it takes to execute it.

It's not his fault. He didn't really understand why he brought it and broke it, it didn't even occur to him. Maybe he was a white male, so he broke it and tried to get cash. And anyway, it can be said that there are still people who don't know much about Bitcoin. But gradually I think Bitcoin will spread all over the world and one day we will see people trading Bitcoin. Of course they are still trading, but Bitcoin has not reached all corners of the world yet. We can expect that Bitcoin will spread all over the world by 2040.

I'm laughing because this is the logic of complete idiots. And of course, this case isn't isolated in the stupidity of those who want to scam people into making money off of Bitcoin, even though these people don't even understand what blockchain is or that coins don't exist in physical form. Well, I want to remember an incident in the city where I live. There, some gypsies were selling Bitcoin coins (physical ones, lol) at the entrance to the metro.
And as you might guess, they were "at a discount." Hahaha. And of course, there were people who bought these coins. Well, human stupidity combined with greed will never end. And we'll hear about such cases many more times...
