What I am asking is whether I have used an address that is known to everyone to hide my wallet balance?

Reason: I have a wallet address that is public on my profile. I use the same wallet address as my Signature Campaign wallet address. It does hold a small balance, but in the future, if I want to use the same wallet for long-term storage, can the balance be hidden without transferring it to a new wallet address? As Electrum generates different wallet addresses, can those be used to hide my balance periodically?

What I am looking for in a reply: If it cannot, then thanks in advance. If yes, then tell me how to do it, or if there is another option, then do tell me.

No, it's not possible. Bitcoin's blockchain is transparent. As long as someone know your address(es), they can always how much you're holding.

It's not possible my friend. The wallet address will be known because any Bitcoin you received on the wallet address are locked on the public key hash of the address, with or without block explorer, the utxo on lock on the public key hash is updated on utxo set of other nodes, it will remain known by other nodes until you spend the Bitcoin from the address to another address.

As Electrum generates different wallet addresses, can those be used to hide my balance periodically?

I think where you have actually misunderstood this particular address thing is when you said electrum has different addresses which is true because electrum actually uses what’s called hierarchy deterministic (HD) seed to generate addresses that’s one seed phrase generates one master key which generates multiple child public keys which generates child addresses. So with that one seed phrase on electrum you can have many child addresses.

But every transaction and bitcoin amount on each addresses are actually publicly recorded and cannot actually use another address to hide it. What you can only do for privacy purposes is to never reuse an address like you have done, use new address for each new purposes such that those amounts are not accumulated in one address or each address not linked together, and this is subjected you not linking the address together by joining them in a single transaction later.

So in simple terms if you wish you can used other addresses on that electrum wallet to recieve new bitcoins and without any transaction links it wouldn’t be linked to This address on your profile

There is an option to freeze an address that allows you to freeze that address and continue using the wallet as if it were a new wallet independent of that address. No one can see all of your wallet addresses except the servers that you connect to via Electrum.

Open Electrum and click View > Show Addresses right-click the specific address and select Freeze

Open Electrum and click View > Show Addresses right-click the specific address and select Freeze

There is a difference between address visibility and trying to freeze the address for some privacy. OP address received outputs with other addresses as signature payments, freezing the address doesn't stop anyone from looking into the activities of the address because it's there on the network like others. Every detail will be public and known to others, at least in this forum.

if I want to use the same wallet for long-term storage,
Your question has already been answered, but i would like to add this. I believe this address you are talking about is part of a hot wallet. In that case, it would be a security risk to use the same wallet for long term storage, which i believe would involve a larger amount in BTC. For long term storage, you should consider a cold wallet, which can either be a hardware wallet or a wallet on an airgapped device.

I'm  surprised you're asking this question Cointikka. I didn't  want to reply before but I think you need to refresh your memory with the basic concept of how Bitcoin works generally.

Don't  worry I gat you covered  Wink  :

Use learnmeabitcoin.com for that, click on the Beginners and Start from, "How Does Bitcoin work?". All the answer to what you asked and didn't according to your post is already there.
As Electrum generates different wallet addresses, can those be used to hide my balance periodically?

Any reputable non custodial walllet can generate multiple addresses, those that show 1 just decide to showing  you a particular key index (read this)

Thanks to all of you for your explanation on my thread. I was aware that it cannot be hidden, but I needed a descriptive answer as to why. That is why I created this topic. I am currently working on a project for which I needed to add a disclaimer, or you can say an explanation, for the users to understand this part of the Bitcoin blockchain. I am locking this thread to avoid spam.
