Before joined Bitcointalk, I actually do believed that my wallet stores my Bitcoin. And i do hear people say not your key not your coin, but did really know what it meant.
But as times goes on, as I spent time reading different discussions here I understand that Bitcoin remains on the blockchain. While wallets manages the keys that allows us to spend it. And this also made me to understand why self custody comes with personal responsibility.
As the learning keeps on going, I came across different concepts like UTXOs, open source, verifying download, DCA and many of them all that completely changes how I look at Bitcoin.
Looking back from when have started still now I would say BItcointalk has really taught me allot then expected.
My Question What is that one lesson or belief about Bitcoin that have change since you joined the BItcointalk ?

There are many and not limited to one or two. 1. Bitcoin is not a Ponzi scheme 2. Opportunities are lying down in learning about Bitcoin once we can discover the right part to engage them. 3. Learning is a continuous process and we have to be determined for the best so we can achieve our goal in the financial economy. 4. I'm also able to benefit from a true definition of decentralization right from this forum that beats brought to us all. The mentality I have towards cryptocurrency and any other digital opportunities has changed, and how bitcoin stand a different achievements everyone needs financial situation for our maximum profitability.

That we have only but one bitcoin; there is nothing like bitcoin on other chains. If it’s not on the Bitcoin blockchain, then it’s not Bitcoin. Before I do see and believe, I can hold bitcoin under any network, which is what I centralised exchange made me believe: that WBTC and some other shitcoins they claimed to be pegged are bitcoin, but in reality they're just tokens which they want to give you in exchange for bitcoin. It's among many ideas which I have corrected since my days here.

My Question What is that one lesson or belief about Bitcoin that have change since you joined the BItcointalk ?
I know about bitcoin before I know about this forum, but I have bitcoin on a close source wallet which I later know on this forum that it is not good. I did not know how exchanges are supposed to not be the one that should have my coins but I store some on the exchanges. I knew that bitcoin was not a ponzi or pyramidal scheme and I believe bitcoin is a store of value. This forum also let me know that because someone is rich and well known, that does not mean I should believe what the person is saying. They criticized bitcoin, but bitcoin remain a store of value.

I definitely knew about bitcoin before joining the forum, but let say I only know about stuffs that has to do with bitcoin investment, price action and how to buy bitcoin from a centralized exchange, but I had no knowledge of the technical side and security of bitcoin and all sort of things like transactions structure, public keys, private key, digital signatures and many terms like the UTXO until I Join the forum. I also had this belief that bitcoin transactions are anonymous and one could do a sort of transaction on the network without being traced, but that belief changed after join the forum I got to understand that that every transaction is traceable on the network. I must say that the forum has really thought me more about the technical aspect of bitcoin investment and i appreciate that forever, joining the forum was the best thing to happen to me on my bitcoin journey.

This is also true for me, I did not know what UTXO is until I got to this forum, although I know what public and private keys are including what bitcoin addresses are. I also think bitcoin transaction is anonymous until I got to this forum, not know it is pseudonymous. When I got to this forum I was able to differentiate between privacy and anonymity when using bitcoin. This forum has been a very good forum with important information about bitcoin for me.

One lesson and belief this prestigious Bitcoin forum has taught me ever since I joined about Bitcoin is the fact that it is an asset you don't borrow money to invest in it, and also an asset with the best value for our money when invested and kept for long term, far better than banks and gold. And I won't doubt the fact that this forum have also taught me a lot about Bitcoin and granting me the privilege to be able to meet and associate with like-minded Bitcoin investors like me in the crypto industry. So this forum is indeed the best place to be for lover of Bitcoin.

Over the years I realised one thing (although it's noticeable right away, but you need a few years to make sure it's a sustainable practice and not a market condition thing) - there are MANY people who love Bitcoin and couldn't care less about altcoins. Like they aren't giving a damn about them whatsoever. This is interesting because you see even hardcore ETH maxis always compare things, don't really mind to make money on something else. Whilst you can meet a Bitcoin maxi who couldn't even tell you which altcoins are the hot thing lately.

People from Bitcointalk maybe? Initially, it did change my mind about the perception of the most active users there -- in a really positive way. Met up with some, maintain friendships with others, regular people.
It also did later on change my mind about "old hands" though. They seemed to be least optimistic at each post-ATH stage. Basing this on a guy I know exited at $10k pre 20k ATH, and a couple of others after, who also exited after the 20k. They believed that was the end game. Perspective matters, I suppose, and the context built around that.

Just to mention a few 1. If you want to succeed as an investor in Bitcoin, always think of Bitcoin for long term investment plan, not for short term. 2. Riches are not promised in the crypto space; invest wisely in Bitcoin, not in altcoins whose future is not guaranteed. 3. Keep learning, invest as you can, and don't be discouraged when the market goes bearish. See that as an opportunity to buy Bitcoin at a discount

For Bitcoin itself, nothing really. I learned everything here because I trusted this resource more than any other knowledge base. A lot of things can be learned here, and that's what I did. So the first knowledge is more sourced here, so it's not really going too far from reality.
Since this is like that for me, I would just share what I think is one of the most important parts that could be useful. The reason why Bitcoin cannot be hacked is because of the PoW type, which just made me confident that BTC is real digital money.

" Looking back from when have started still now I would say BItcointalk has really taught me allot then expected.
Many people have been on this forum for years but they don't understand the basics. Because they only read posts that support their previous beliefs. They rarely change their own positions. You know, Not your keys, not your coins is not just a catchy slogan. If someone else controls your private keys, then at the end of the day they also control access to your BTC. This is exactly why we should practice self custody. Always verify when downloading a wallet. Good to see you already learnt that. What is that one lesson or belief about Bitcoin that have change since you joined the BItcointalk ?
Before, I never thought Bitcoin would ever touch 120k. But now I believe it will soon surpass this threshold and go much further."

Can I ask you why you did not post this thread in Beginners & Help board or Meta board? It's about newbies (beginners) and somewhat related to the forum so Beginners & Help; Meta boards are quite relevant for this thread. It's a pointless thread for spamming, so I believe you did knew very well that if it is posted in Beginners & Help board, it will be deleted by Mitchell. I really hope that you will not make new threads every time you feel like you already learned something new.

The wallet misconception is likely most widespread of the ones brought in. Most people think that the wallet has coins, instead of it simply being program that manages the keys. That change in thinking alone will give self custody new meaning. Greatest shift in my beliefs is with regard to Bitcoin price ups and downs. Initially I saw swings of the price as weakness and not good place to seriously consider it as safe place for money. That was entirely different story after spending some time here and reading through many cycles. Short term price swings is simply price discovery process at work in worldwide 24 hour a day, no trading pause market. There has been consistent trend throughout all cycles. Knowing difference in that shifted my approach to price movements completely..Bitcointalk really helps to speed up that understanding, since you are reading from those who have been through cycles many times and not just from people commenting on outside.

This another lesson that changes my understanding, before now I don’t really pay attention to the difference between anonymity and pseudonymity. As I start learning how every transaction can be viewed on block explorer I realized that Bitcoin also transparent by design. Then privacy do come from how one use it, it not because blockchain do hides transactions. This another different perspective
