Bitcoin made me understand why I needed to stay away from other crypto currencies, I most mostly a short term investor, investing for the quick gains and profits, but when I started investing in bitcoin, and also seeing what is happening here, I was then convinced to be investing in bitcoin for the longest time possible, and Bitcoin also made me understand that I should channel my attention on long term investments which is something that have been widely accepted by me and some individuals who are also interested in investing into bitcoin, and still can’t force or tell anyone what they should be doing, they’re the once who are in the right position to be doing all of that as we can possibly understand.

My Question
What is that one lesson or belief about Bitcoin that have change since you joined the BItcointalk ?

One lesson i have learnt about bitcoin is not to leave my holdings on CEX because it will be exposed to hackers there but when stored in a self-custody wallet where you have the keys to your wallet, it is unlikely to be hacked. During my early days in the forum, i used to transfer my bitcoins from self-custody wallet to centralized exchanges but after coming across several threads that discussed about the dangers, i don't do that anymore unless i want to trade my bitcoins.

Well, I could think of the fact that ever since joining this forum, I see Bitcoin as the purest form of cryptocurrency above all others. The first and original crypto currency that has evolved without failing to fulfill both the old code and protocol and does better to fulfill the requirements of new systems and design and even AI integration and investment plans.

I used to think Bitcoin was only for scammers and hackers and fraudsters, but now I got to see how it could be a better alternative to the current monetary system of any country and individual finding it hard to trust the traditional fiat systems and finding it hard to keep up with savings and investment, because inflation make ones savings in a bank worthless overtime.

Bitcointalk has revealed it to me that fiat is useless because its value depreciates in the long run, therefore saving fiat is the worst decision ever. It's okay to save but never let your fiat sleep in the bank, instead invest it into bitcoin or any profitable asset, and see how your money grows, even tenfold from your starting capital.

Also, I learned from here that bitcoin will create a big impact for our future. Its not that bitcoin is our future, but with maximum allocation for bitcoin along with proper risk management and discipline, bitcoin will help us create a good retirement as well as a brighter future for our family.

I have learned enough about Bitcoin and digital currency by using this Bitcoin forum. I have learned the difference between paper money and Bitcoin by using this forum and I have understood its importance in real life. I have learned how inflation can disrupt the economy by using this forum and how Bitcoin can solve that inflation by using this forum. In other words, I have learned how Bitcoin can improve the economy in real life and how Bitcoin can help in places where fiat fails by using this forum.
Likewise, I've learned a lot about cryptocurrency especially about Bitcoin through this forum, As I enjoy reading the discussions and the different perspectives shared by the members, and every threads here helps me expand my knowledge...
one thing I've realized is that learning about cryptocurrency never really ends because the market is constantly changing every time passes, so it's important for us to stay updated on market trends, industry news and other developments related to crypto.when I started learning about digital currencies, my interest has continued to developed, I've also experienced how crypto can create opportunities that have helped me support my needs, which made me appreciate its potential even more...I know that cryptocurrency can play a big significant role in improving our economy, although its future impact will depend on how it is adopted and regulated.

Before joined Bitcointalk, I actually do believed that my wallet stores my Bitcoin. And i do hear people say not your key not your coin, but did really know what it meant.

But as times goes on, as I spent time reading different discussions here I understand that Bitcoin remains on the blockchain. While wallets manages the keys that allows us to spend it. And this also made me to understand why self custody comes with personal responsibility.

As the learning keeps on going, I came across different concepts like  UTXOs, open source, verifying download, DCA and many of them all that completely changes how I look at Bitcoin.

Looking back from when have started still now I would say BItcointalk has really taught me allot then expected.

My Question
What is that one lesson or belief about Bitcoin that have change since you joined the BItcointalk ?

I've learned alot from this forum soon far, and I am still learning, I know that Bitcoin was never a Ponzi scheme and I've never doubt about it because I did the research myself on this one before coming on the forum.

Here are few things I've learnt here.

1) Bitcoin Lightning is actually Bitcoin.
2) Bitcoin mining isn't poisonous and dangerous to the environment.
3) Using different Bitcoin address every time do add more to your Privacy.
4) Hot Wallets aren't the safest option for your Bitcoin.

The list goes on but these are the few that still rings a bell in my head.

Understanding how private keys work and the likelihood of losing your coins if you create your own private key without using a true secret random algorithm has been one of my main key take ways. I also got interested in learning about solving bitcoin puzzles and must admit this took up a lot of my personal time. I don't regret signing up...though i initially used to lurk in the threads before actually joining.

Bitcointalk slapped me with the hard truth:

”Wisdom is knowing that you know nothing”

I went into Bitcointalk thinking i was a genius after watching a couple of YouTube videos lmao. But then after like 3days and 47 forum flame wars later, i realized that the rabbit was much more deeper and so deep that it has its own blockchain.

The more i read posts from all kinds of people on Bitcointalk; the experienced veterans, the total beginners, the conspiracy theorists, and the drama queens who have been threatening to leave the forum since 2011, the more i realized that Bitcoin is kinda complicated and has many levels of depth; probably way more complicated than my failed attempt at understanding the Lightning Network 😄

I can say that this forum has actually thought me that I should always question my dumb assumptions, stay open minded and keep learning because the second you start to feel like you got it all figured out, a 12 year anonymous  with a 2009 account drops a 500 post thread and makes you feel like a no-coiner again.

HODL the humility folks.

For me, my honest thoughts on how this forum has boosted my knowledge, and in parted the real meaning of Bitcoin, over the years I have come to understand the fact that Bitcoin is not just a random digital money that you spend like that…and it comes with a full-time responsibility of patience, back then in my early days of learning in the forum I always thought that Bitcoin is just a get rich quick scheme, but now I think i no better…And I think I got to understand this phase even more better “Not your keys, Not your coins”  because back then I was thinking every Bitcoin should be left and saved in an exchange.

Then I saw a thread here that said people's Bitcoin got stolen because they misunderstood, and were ignorant, and left their Bitcoin in an exchange that got hacked…and over the years I still got to understand one fact about it Bitcoin is not after the hype in every bull run people keep shouting that this time bull run is different. And when the bear market comes, 90% of altcoins will face alot down price in the market…

I do agree on that this because allot of beginners, their learning of Bitcoin was through exchanges. This the place they do buy and sell their coin and also where they see their balance, so this makes them easily believe that this is where my bitcoin is being stored. Now with the help of time few would understand that no! Bitcoin aren't store in my wallet but it is store on the blockchain and that wallet gives u access to it.

That why we would always advise beginners should learn how this wallet works first before you take the step of buying large amount of BTC, that why those who understands not your key not your coins use to be mindful of where they keep their Bitcoin.

Before joining this forum I had a zero knowledge about Bitcoin, I thought that it was a highly publicized Ponzi scheme, I didn't even know that it was a currency not to talk of being decentralized because the people that were talking about it then focused on how you can buy it and become rich. This forum dissected Bitcoin for me and I grew past many misconceptions about it especially that it was a Ponzi scheme that would soon crash, fortunately Bitcoin is still here and gaining adoption.

The two most significant advice that I got and still holding onto amongst other things are "not your keys not your coins" and " keep your coins in a none custodial wallet". I heard these phrases too many times that it stuck with me, I'm also sharing the knowledge in my posts and outside this forum to people that I see that have genuine interest to hold Bitcoin.

I noticed a pattern over the years (and I've been on here a while, even before I created this account).
Whenever I would be too busy in life to read up on latest discussions and developments about Bitcoin in general, and when I would lack talking and connecting to people from the Bitcoin-space for several weeks or even months, I would slowly but surely give the main-stream press and mainstream opinions (just look at the negative comments on a random tech board whenever Bitcoin is mentioned) more credit than they deserve.
Meaning, you find so much incompetent, incorrect, biased articles and comments about Bitcoin as soon as you leave the space(s) - such as bitcointalk - that have people who are really deep into the matter.

So tldr: bitcointalk helped me keep my mind sharp and clear on why Bitcoin is amazing, revolutionary tech, why it's NOT even close to ponzi, the fact that development is constantly ongoing for about 18 years now and with every new challange it faces its becoming stronger by the day.

The more I read, the smaller I feel. It turns out that Bitcoin has a very wide scope. It even always has connections, so it always has an effect if something isn't done. One thing that really impresses me in this forum is the open discussions and the very good validation. This forum makes me trust Bitcoin and its future more. Because in this forum, problems are written about and discussed in a way that really makes sense logically.

What is that one lesson or belief about Bitcoin that have change since you joined the BItcointalk ?
Well, I learned about Bitcoin in Bitcointalk, I didn't know it before I make an account. I didn't even know how it works, so there are a bunch of lessons.

If I had to pick one important lesson about Bitcoin that I learned in here, is to hold custody of your funds and how to do it properly. I remember vividly before I create an account, my understanding of Bitcoin is that you create an account on Coinbase and just move it inside there.

As I was growing here in the forum Bitcoin talk made me understand that Bitcoin is more then just investment, before now I do focus on price ups and downs. But after some knowledge obtain by reading discussions here, I learnt a lot here, self custody, node, privacy and reasons decentralization is very important. Making me understand that Bitcoin is not only about make money but it gives you full control over your own money. All this have been a big lesson for me

Bitcoin has helped a lot of people, and when you understand what bitcoin is all about, you will always appreciate it. Because with just bitcoin investment, things have been going well for people that invest for the long term and get the benefit.

Before I came to this community, I didn’t get much knowledge about bitcoin. But now, with the help of members that are guiding on how bitcoin is all about, I started to understand it better. I focused on investing, and I really appreciate any benefit I achieve in my investment journey in bitcoin. Because bitcoin is all about patience, and if you can’t invest for long periods of time, it will always be difficult for you to achieve your goals.

Looking back from when have started still now I would say BItcointalk has really taught me allot then expected.
Well, the thing is that you possibly didn't know much about this forum before you joined, if you had, then you won't say you learnt more than you expected here..
This is where the idea, the discussions, the building and launching of bitcoin all started from, you can't be here and not know more about bitcoin than the outside world knows, and this is because this is where bitcoin's spirit lives.
but this is if you did give yourself to knowing though, for what a man seeks, he finds.

My Question
What is that one lesson or belief about Bitcoin that have change since you joined the BItcointalk ?
Nothing changed, and this is because every thing I know about bitcoin, I learnt here.
I had zero knowledge of bitcoin before I joined this forum, a Google search of "what is bitcoin" in 2016 was how I landed here.

Bitcointalk has become an eye opener to me that bitcoin is not just a get-rich-quick scheme nor a simple currency, but its an ideal type of asset that any person would gladly have it as a long-term investment because of its increasing value that would make any long-term investor become fortunate and accumulate wealth in the long run.

Also, bitcoin is a decentralized currency, which means even without bank or government, bitcoin can sustain its existence and growing value. Bitcointalk made me realized that what we really need is a decentralized type of currency like bitcoin and we can be our own bank, than trust fiat that could do nothing against inflation in the long run.

My Question
What is that one lesson or belief about Bitcoin that have change since you joined the BItcointalk ?

There are many new things that even before I lay about a term or knowledge about bitcoin but the most I feel is when I hodl I always feel calmer now it is not easy to feel scared especially when a decline occurs.
Im a person who may have always thought badly at the beginning I knew bitcoin even I once sold my assets just because of a temporary decline that made me lose that time. But the longer by looking at a lot of people on this forum especially for some reason they are in hodl as well as many more at the moment I don't feel worried too much maybe even seem ordinary when a drop occurs because I always feel that I am on the right path and not just me alone who is doing hodl now.

The longer I go the more confident I become with my hold regardless of the cycle that always repeats itself but right now I have started to learn to be calmer when there is a downturn going on and it could be that I will not feel this way when I am not on the forum.

At first, I thought bitcoin investment is just like every other Investment that you invest maybe within the couple of months, you start seeing your portfolio booming. But coming here really shape my thinking, I learnt that bitcoin can serve as hedge against inflation of which I didn't know that from the beginning. So I must say that bitcoin talk made me understand alot about bitcoin and I still believe that there is more I need to know, maybe with time I will sure find out.
