This is actually my first time seeing this pic but i can already see why it is being remembered. What even blew my mind more is that the sign itself later sold for over $1million; damn! that’s some golden bitcoin history right there.

I’m pretty sure that the intern guy never even knew that holding up a cardboard sign for a few seconds would end up becoming one of the most iconic moments in bitcoin history. What might have just seemed like a simple stunt he was tryna pull off now turned into a lasting symbol of bitcoin’s grassroot culture and also the conviction of its early supporters.

It’s really fascinating to me i can’t even lie. It’s only a person that doesn’t appreciate the value of bitcoin and it’s rich history that won’t be fascinated by things like this.

Nine years ago today, on July 12, 2017, during Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen's testimony before the House Financial Services Committee, 22-year-old intern Christian Langalis held up a cardboard sign behind her that simply read, "Buy Bitcoin." From that moment on, he became known as the legendary "Bitcoin Sign Guy."
At the time of the hearing, Bitcoin was trading at around $2,320.

i also see in the framegrab the S&P500 was at 2,440 vs ~7,500 now.

its just another subtle reminder that bitcoin blew the doors off stocks in general lol

It is good that we take some message that we see serious sometimes, I wish I took this message that he sent to the world seriously by now think I would have been the most happiest man on Earth, the coming of Bitcoin and the growth of Bitcoin is something that surprise me till date because I never expected Bitcoin to grow this way, his very bored and creative for him to have written what he wrote and show it out. I don't know if anyone decided to take his message serious and bought Bitcoin, it would be more magical if there's anyone who used because of this to buy Bitcoin  Grin

It's the remarkable moment of how heavy the value of his sign over time. When he held the Bitcoin sign, that time people still see Bitcoin differently compared today. And then after a few years, people did not anticipate that Bitcoin will be more valuable. That time when people think that the Bitcoin price is already expensive, but no one thought that the price will go even further.

This "Buy Bitcoin" sign is a true history, showing us how far Bitcoin has reached. That's the moment that is hard to deny that it earned its spot as one of the memorable milestones in cryptocurrency.

This kind of remarkable events is what helps some people to remember that they have messed up by not taking such random advice or even doing any research on it, some people like to doubt the fact that some things are not just random but actually comes at the right time, imagine people who took the "buy Bitcoin" Sign seriously back then and purchase Bitcoin when the price was still $2k+, they would have been happy for taking such decision now but it's unfortunate that they can not see Bitcoin go to $2k again.

Haha, you got a fair point there old timer. Hindsight sure does always got that 20/20 glow doesn’t it ?

I mean back in the day when bitcoin was still at a few cents or even a few bucks, it seemed to a handful of peeps like it was just one weird internet experiment; you know, more like literal digital magic beans basically.

Now fast forward to years later and you begin to hear plenty of “I told you so”s and sighs turning into regretful gnashing of teeth lol. Man, early adoption is a bitch….

I remember the auction for this 'Buy Bitcoin' sign in 2024. It was crazy that someone would spend 16 BTC to purchase that, despite how iconic that sign is for the BTC industry. We've not 'heard' anything about it since then, and is it possible that sometime in the future, the pseudonymous buyer would would put this sign up for resale and probably get bids higher than what they spent on it? Or could it just be a collectors item they keep for themself.
