Finally I would like to say that if you compare it with the investment in memecoin or shitcoin, then it is not wrong to consider gambling as an investment.

That way of investing in crypto is a gamble and I agree. I might agree to OP's colleague if he referred to investing to gambling platforms. Like having into their bankrolls like in bitvest, they have that option to invest and other casinos have that as well. But plainly with that explanation about that hope of having to earn from each bet you do, he's probably drown in losses and a gambling addict. Winning in gambling is based on luck, chance and random circumstances while for the actual investment, it's backed by history, real numbers and proof that the business or the invesment is profitable.

The only investment in gambling is if you are investing in the casino bankroll.

Playing on the casino means you are exposing yourself to the risk of losing money and I dont consider this as investment. In investments you have some asset in hand at the end of the starting transaction, like a stock/share/stablecoin/altcoin/fiat. In gambling you dont have that, you have put the money in the machine and its gone already, unless your luck is good and you get it back with something extra.

Games of luck cannot be considered investment in my opinion, however certain people might want to stretch it a lot.

I remember those old casino which I choose not to name that offers investment to their gamblers before. Then their investors got small percentage of dividend from them. But majority of those casinos is not existing now and maybe they failed from doing it and many people are not satisfied with returns gotten.

But if they are just playing the casino games what casinos offered, its so clear that this is not an investment. If there are people thinking that it seems that they are been misled and got wrong information. Real investment is they got a share from company or have some asset gotten on hand from the capital they spent. People just stretch to much its definition, but those games which they can earn if they are just lucky doesn't give them any value if they aim profit and think about investment matters.

This is why gambling is good to determine as form of entertainment, rather call it as investment since maybe what they can only earn is just pure disappointment.

Your friend doesn't know about gambling and investing. If he did, he wouldn't equate the two. Gambling is more about taking a risk based on chance. Investment has to have a thesis. If there's a strong thesis, it doesn't matter what the asset is.

Purchasing something like Pokemon Cards or DOGE back in the day would absolutely be called gambling yet people buying them had a thesis (of course not all of them) and it played out well.

I think gambling is never an investment but rather a place to lose money, because investment is where your money is kept for a long time and the aim is to make a profit from it in the future. I don’t know why the person is referring to gambling as an investment, it is totally not in the same category because in gambling, you did with probability and the outcome of the result will determine what will be immediately, while it is different from investment.

Just as the OP explained in the main thread, if you buy Bitcoin now and the price drops due to market fluctuations, your amount of Bitcoin remains intact while the value in dollar equivalence drops due to market fluctuation, your Bitcoin remain intact while your wallet for as long as you want before you decide to sell it, while in gambling, you lose the money once the game played opposite your predictions.

How can he be right with his thought when you already understand the difference between gambling and investment and you clearly differentiated the both. When you buy Bitcoin, you are holding the asset you paid for and can sell it any time the price value has appreciated more than the price it was when you bought it, meanwhile if your colleague had placed a bet and his prediction was wrong, he ends up losing his money meanwhile you still have your Bitcoin.
