The world we live in is one place that, is filled with different people all with different kind of reasoning and the way that, they look at things. Bringing it down to sports there is always this talk about favoritism especially from the governming bodies that constitute different sports governing bodies. Football the most popular sports if am not mistaken has been on the center of it all, since the beginning of the 2026 world cup for the past three weeks the most important football competition there has been different conspiracy theories. Especially on this forum .


From the group stages of this world cup there has been different conspiracy theories going on, which has been that FIFA football governing body is favoring some certain countries, when the world cup was in the group stage the caption was FIFA was favoring European teams and was biased towards certain teams such as Africa countries. When the group stages were over we started hearing another one and that was that FIFA was favoring Argentina because, of Messi and that match officials were instructed by by FIFA to favour Argentina.

But after watching the semi finals of the FIFA world cup matches both from the Argentina vs England and that of Spain vs France games, it became clear to me that all these stories were all conspiracy theories and nothing more. Using the Argentina game it was believed that FIFA was going to favour Argentina. But after watching  this game, one thing that I realized is that this game was one of the best games in terms of officiating if you ask me. But Argentina has to once again come back from behind to win this game in their usual format, right from the beginning of this world.

This made me to have a dipper reflection of the the world cup and all the accusations that has been going on, and I have come to the conclusion that it has always been conspiracy theories and nothing more, if Argentina wins this world cup against Spain no body should blame FIFA over favoritism but, should congratulations Argentina for their hard labour and not giving up spirit.

I know you are joking and so I am too. Of course both teams deserves the accolades to had reached this height because it had not been an easy journey from the day 1 of the tournament down to the final round.
Is the tournament polluted? Do you think it is really that possible to manipulate matches in a whole world Cup?
It won't work because too many local and foreign observers would be there at the international sector. So it will be difficult to manipulate but there is still possibilities to do that through players.

Favouritism is a void to be considered as a strategy to win your bets but as for casual supports, it is okay to consider your team favourite.

I think the world's frustration against Argentina is precisely because of that determination they have to chase the "impossible" when the score is against of them.
There are very few times that I've seen national teams truly fighting to recover from a bad situation instead of accepting defeat.

Anyway, I've already said in some previous posts that I was almost starting to believe those conspiracies, but the truth is that Argentina is really in the final of the tournament because they deserve it.
And mind you.... as a Brazilian, it is difficult to me to say thia I would not like to see the Argentinians become champions again, the Brazil - Argentina rivalry is very strong here.

The fact is that Argentina does not know how lose and in the end I see that FIFA seems to be acting quite ethically and these conspiracies against it will probably remain just speculation very soon.

Well, that is rather you person al opinion on the issue of those conspiracy theories. I cannot assure something it is true or not, I don't have any privileged information on the FIFA. But something we need to recall there have been conspiracy theories which ended up being completely true.

I am sure there were people who started to say FIFA official were being brided in order to vote for certain countries to become hosts of the World cup, some may have thought those were only conspiracy theories, right?
In the end, those conspiracy theorists were right and the chairman of the FIFA paid the consequences of allowing corruptiom to go unchecked within the organization.

I just feel it would be better if the FIFA had more check and balances, so people would not need to assume there is something fishy going on behind curtains.

It looks like Argentina has rub the wrong way fans of the world cup for this year. But I guess we are not all that blind on the calls that they are getting so yeah there could be biased from the organizations and the referee themselves.

So I will also root for Spain here just to have some fans. I'm not against the Argentinians fans as for sure they are huge here. But it looks like Spain is the favorite so I might go with the crowd.

There will be biased calls anywhere, and it's just magnified during the big events like this. It could also be a mistake that referees don't want to turn back to because of their pride. Still, we should respect the call of the referees since they are not there as fans but as professionals to do their own job.

Watch other sports, and you will see it. WNBA, especially with all the veterans ganging up on Caitlin Clark and referees, seems to be enjoying it, so they call minimal fouls on the one who did it. Instead of ejection, just a technical foul. Again, there will always be bias anywhere, and we just have to live with it if they call it wrong. This is actually where superstars are born. Refs don't matter but they will still win it despite the unjust callls.

If FIFA really favoring Argentina because there was Messi in it, then they should have been the Champion in  the past 6 world cup appearances considering Messi played since 2006 but that wasn't the case because it's all just a theory of these die hard fans or gamblers who just have one sided view on who will they favor, and that's the very truth of all this. Mind me, there will be least critic once Spain win this one.

Most of their frustrations are being shared across social that's why it creates a bottleneck to those who are fan of the game but if you put it on a macro level, nothing gives a damn on whatever these critics do really have to say. Whoever wins this there will always be critics but I think Argentina winning it will be so widespread because they won't want a legend who steps on that field to have it back to back. I don't believe all these rumors, but we cannot deny that some refereeing errors occurred, especially in the Egypt-Argentina match. These refereeing errors may have been due to human error on the part of the referees and not necessarily due to conspiracy theories, but it is difficult to convince the fans, especially the Egyptian fans who were ahead until the 80th minute, that there was no conspiracy against their team.

If Argentina wins this FIFA world cup, you wouldn't expect people to keep quiet because there will always be a conspiracy theory that all was base on favouritism, if not so why would Argentina carry a whole world cup back to back. If Argentina wins this game well people will congratulate them for their hardwork of rigging it. I have heard many said that Argentina will win this cup earlier before this stage explaining reason to why they will take it but I doubted, so with the way it is going Argentina may win it and what I was told will come to pass.

Now, talking about the semifinal, everyone expected England to win. The odds were also in England’s favor. This was mainly because of England’s last two head-to-head wins against Argentina, which happened almost two decades ago. I was one of the few who said Argentina still had the upper hand because of the experience they bring to the team. In the end, we witnessed an iconic semifinal, and yes, Argentina was brilliant, especially with that last goal.

So yes, all the conspiracy theories are baseless. In football, it’s skill, experience, and determination that matter the most.

Some of them still blame FIFA over favoritism and we can't deny that because those people don't believes with FIFA. It is difficult to change their paradigm even the match runs fairly without any controversial or conspiracy theories.

But I follow @danherbias07 said, not a fan, just a bet so we can stay rational and not over. That is a game which any can win and lose and we should accept anything. Perhaps FIFA was going to favour Argentina but we don't know the truth and we only hear about conspiracy theories. It is better we enjoy the match and only bet using the money we can afford.

Things work differently nowadays then they used to work in past World cups. Nowadays, betting industry has grown to huge levels and you're not alone when it comes to love for team Argentina mostly for Messi. That's why there's always going to be huge betting pool for team Argentina and let's say now after those conspiracy theories many people think that FIFA management supports team Argentina and it will win the World Cup no matter what, that's what most fans of Argentina think and want.

If I'm not wrong then majority will place their final match bets in favor of Argentina, but if those conspiracy theories are truth then there's chance that Argentina might not win the World Cup as if it wins the bets that were placed in favor of it will also be won bets, but if there's no conspiracy then Argentina will win the World Cup and those who placed their bets in favor of it will also win their bets. I personally think that the final match will decide if there's anything fishy going on or those're just conspiracies.

Why are many people rooting for Spain, why not support the good guy who's on his last ride in the world cup. Spanish stars all have more years ahead of them to still play and win the world cup, but my favorite Argentine buddy is on his last ride to second world glory or not at all.
I've seen the conspiracies, even watched some myself and was amazed how non-functional Var was at some point in the game because it's FIFA's golden boy, but yesterday against England, they still proved themselves with late drama, so this Argentina team simply doesn't know how to loose. They've proven it against Cape Verde, Switzerland, Egypt and now England. They really deserved to be in this final and.... I'm rooting for Messi, no matter the result of the final, I celebrate him and Argentina's resilience in this competition.

So far, the opposite is true. 58% Spain and 42% Argentina. But let's see what happens next. In general, there were so many accusations against Argentina, and even some kind of petition was signed by people to expel Argentina from the championship. Now these accusations seem far-fetched.

Well this kind of issues has been there from the beginning. Just because a goat is present on one of the team doesnt mean FIFA favors them. There are audience while these games officiated and done. People will know if theres some magic behind the scene or some uncalled for during games and some decision.

As much as we know that it is not all that easy for FIFA to be compromised, we have to face the reality that there have been instances where the result Argentina had were questionable which raises some of this doubt but again, Argentina has worked really hard in all the come back we have witnessed them encounter in their world cup journey always coming from behind to score in the strangest of ways possible. you can not tag that kind of thing to be a thing of luck or favoritism because in all instances, they always push their opponent to a point there opponent had to do all the defending while Argentina attacked fully. if we said the African teams they played against were weak mentality, what can we then say of England?

Those rumors would never end. Just look at the England-Norway game and what happened with the equalizer goal, which was scored by Bellingham. The ball probably touched the spider cam(or whatever they call that camera), but the game wasn't stopped by the referee.
A semifinal between England and Argentina is way more exciting(and would bring more attention and more revenue) compared to a semifinal between Norway and Argentina. On the other hand, if Norway somewhat managed to eliminate England, everyone would be like "FIFA is pushing Argentina to the final match, just look at Argentina's opponents at the elimination phase". The Swiss player Embolo got a weird red card against Argentina. People would always find something to complain about.
