I feel this has been a discussion for more than two decades without an answer. I'm a lover of football but not a Messi or Ronaldo fan; however, I really appreciate the work of these players because they are legends that cannot be easily forgotten, even by the next generation. We are coming to the sunset of two phenomenal careers, and for everything we have seen, this might just be their last appearance in the World Cup. The greatest of all time has been the debate among fans arguing who really deserves to be called so, and with the performance of these players in the World Cup and their performance generally, I would want us to discuss critically to judge who the greatest is with the statistics of their work.

I like both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, they are both the greatest players of all time, but if we have to compare between them both, it is not a matter of arguments at all because Lionel Messi is the greatest player of all time. Cristiano Ronaldo is excellent in playing but Lionel Messi is a genuine.

If the question is "Who is the Greatest of all time", it is very difficult to explain and my most honest answer, there is no definite answer because it all depends on who each individual supports.
GOAT according to Messi supporters, the most complete, can dribble, pass, vision, and is a champion at the highest level. Meanwhile, Ronaldo supporters say the GOAT is the hardest working, most durable and most hungry for goals.

From my perspective, if the Goat is judged in terms of the most perfect talent, influence on the way he plays football, then the majority will choose Messi, but if judged in terms of the most perfect athlete, hard work and record, then the majority will choose Ronaldo. Both are great players in their own way, Messi is a natural born genius, while Ronaldo is a genius born through hard work. Regardless of who is the greatest between the two, I feel very fortunate to be in the same era as them and to be able to watch them both play live.

I have said it that Ronaldo is good and very excellent, but Messi is better. In fact Messi is the greatest player of all time, it is not about what people are saying, it is the fact. Ronaldo has the highest fan base, but they should just accept the truth. It is not about about argument at all, it is very clear to see.

The greatest of all time surely to me cannot be either Messi or Cristiano. We had Krooijf , Pele, Maradona and Van Basten to name a few world class players that were playing early in soccer and from all of them it is very difficult to think not of Maradona as the best of all times, for me he is as I grew up watching him play. From Cristiano and Messi for me they are both at the same level and cannot make an exception as who is the better player between these top performers of nowadays football.

If I praise these two legendary football players, it would be an understatement. Their contribution and achievements in football will be written in golden letters. Ronaldo is now 41 years old and he is still a great and energetic player and is moving forward with the goal of scoring 1000 goals. He will probably be able to achieve that target within this year.

Talking about Lionel Messi talent, I would say that a player like him is very rare in the world. Even at the age of 39, he is performing impressively and I hope he will win this World Cup as well. I also hope that he will be physically fit to play in the next World Cup as well.

The both players are best of their kind, they have achieved many things their time as a professional and career footballers and their statistics show's it all. I think the world cup trophy is the only difference between the two of them as one has been able to set a record of lifting it while the other is yet to. Little wonder Ronaldo shed tears because he couldn't go and further this year's world cup tournament and also him been close to his retirement as age is no more on his side. It will forever be on record that on their time as professional footballes, they achieved and got to the peak of their careers. We can not call the the greatest of all time because it is said that the best is yet to come. The new generation coming would definitely surpass their records just like they surpassed the records of the player's that were there before them.

I am only amazed by how great these two players are in their sport, and I don't think there's a need to say who is the greatest of all time. The same as how I look at other sports like basketball. Some will argue that it's Lebron James, while others will say it's Steph Curry. For me, they have their eras on their primes that they dominated the game, and that's when they are the GOAT. The same with Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, Larry Bird, Bill Russell, and more.

These two are superstars who I think help the young ones to have a goal in their lives. An idol. There's no argument about being the GOAT of both players. I won't pick one.

But for me, I would go with Messi here, not just because of the numbers, but it seems that he is more loved and has the charisma more than Ronaldo himself. Don't get me wrong, but it looks like Ronaldo might have rub the wrong way to some fans.

However, this debate might not end. And just like any other sports there could be countless arguments and pros and cons and it depends on so many factors that the result might be biased.

For me, I would choose Messi. With Argentina now in the World Cup final, they have another chance to win the championship. If they win it again, Messi will add another major achievement to his career, which will strengthen his position even more in the GOAT conversation.

Whatever the scores might be it doesn't matter, in the heart of humans everyone has their own greatest footballer for a reason, there is no need for confirmation or discussion about this honestly.

Messi might be great for some because of his performance but some people will gladly drop him for Ronaldo or even ronaldinho, this is human reaction for you, everyone has their own reasons why someone is the greatest for them.

I normally don't take this tittle very serious, "Greatest of all time" , because it should be greatest of his time, there are too many football legends and also in other sports that are nowhere near to found today, there is no greatest of all time here.

Cristiano Ronaldo remains my goat irrespective of him wining a world cup championship. He has been a major motivation to me in regards to hardwork and consistency. His life teaches that a willing mind is all you need to develop yourself and spike to the max of your potential. I don't just watch him play football I learn from his decision and put my sef in his shoes in several areas of my life to produce a productive result. No doubt Messi too is an exceptional player with great talent and I enjoy all of his games and the way he's humble but yet a very good footballer but Ronaldo remains my goat.

It is undoubtedly believed that both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are greatest of all time to be sincere, but as individuals, we all have our various criterias or special abilities we sort out for either of them, this may bring a kind of disparity due to the one we supported and being a fan to, but to generalize the overall performance with both of them, they are of a unique style style in their performance and makes them to have a better edge to all their supporting fans to always develop confidence in them with their various abilities, individuals can set their criterias to what they demand from each players and decided who is more preferred than the other as a personal preference.

Each of us has the best players, and those two are the best. If we have to choose one, right now many will say it's Messi, but Messi has had an easier path than Ronaldo. First, in Argentina, all the players respect him and look after him. In Portugal, they didn't; the players pushed him aside and didn't believe in him. That alone makes Messi better. On the other hand, Ronaldo represents moving forward alone without anyone's help. They are totally different cases. I already hate the Portuguese national team, except for Ronaldo, because I dislike envious people.
