Bitcoin is a very enduring asset, made for long time speculations. If you are in for a long time speculations, Hodling Bitcoin is where you should be trading.
Bitcoin has made a very big step already and we can say Bitcoin is established now, which made it very suitable for a trade.
Maybe the OP still has the mindset of what happened during the early days of Bitcoin when the price was insignificant. Many people might have carelessly lost their private keys because they never thought the price of Bitcoin would skyrocket.

Asking this question is like saying that people or banks would lose access to gold vaults because they lost their keys. Everyone would always keep valuable assets safe. Some of us even have succession plans to transfer our Bitcoin to our children. As long as Bitcoin still retains its value and the network is still functional, it will continue to exist for many generations.

Honestly i think it depends on adoption. The tech behind BTC is solid, but for it to still be around for my kids and grandkids, people actually have to use it .Not just hold it.if lightning and wallets gets easier, and more countries/companieskeep using it, then yeah it can last. if not, something better might replace it down the line

Do you mean there will be another version of BTC?

Yes, it depends on the ease of use, and of course, when access issues arise, it might be a little different from managing fiat money, especially when using banking transaction apps. At least users still have a solution if they forget their password to regain access to their accounts.

With BTC, Private Keys are something that needs to be taken care of to ensure security and prevent asset loss. As society wants it to be like that, I mean the steps are made like a banking model.

Losing most of the private keys do only happen when only few of the people are highly knowledgeable of the importance of private keys, and that was probably 10 years ago. But seeing how today's investors are highly cautious of their coins, of their security and safety, I don't think they will still be careless in keeping their private keys. They will do everything instead to safeguard their coins 24/7.

Bitcoin will last longer and may hit more generations to come. We just have to stay positive.

There is definitely more awareness in the realm of private key safety when comparing it with the early days of Bitcoin. Many people know that once you lose your keys, you lose control of your money; therefore, they start to take the necessary actions by using hardware wallets and backups and other ways of keeping your money safe. Nonetheless, it is crucial since there are new investors coming into the space and not knowing anything about self-custody.

If a generation is 30 years it means that Bitcoin has already lasted more than half of that and has the potential of lasting longer than that well let me not act too sure like the future is predictable or I've been there before but my potential is based on the historical achievement of Bitcoin that's why i said the potential to do better is there.
Talking about losing a coin if someone dies, it's possible especially in a case where no relative of the person has access to person seed phrase then the coin would be lost in the wallet forever until the phrase is miraculously found.

Private keys may be lost from time to time for whatever reason, but the number probably won't be as high as you're suggesting. However, even then, Bitcoin will still function as it should because lost Bitcoins won't be a problem; instead, they reduce the actual circulating supply, increasing scarcity, and thus making Bitcoin more valuable. So, it's actually not as bad as you think.

If you die today, will your coins be lost?

I plan to inherit it. But not now. So if I die before then, that is.

Yes, as long as this backup of seed phrase, or in case of death no one know and have acetone seed phrase, to then the Bitcoin is gone  but it will not affect the future if Bitcoin to the next coming generation because the Bitcoin will just be there in the wallet and it will automatically reduce the total supply in the market.

Just as other have clarified, losing seed phrase or abandon wallets with Bitcoin balance inside them will not have effect on Bitcoin price because those coins will remain their unless if someone have access to the seed phrase, so the supply will remain as it is, and if there is high demand, the price will keep rising due to limited supply.

The coin to invest in to store value for long, remain Bitcoin, investing for long will give you profit and save you from future inflation.

I think that with the advancement of technology, the acceptance of Bitcoin will continue to increase, that is, it will survive from generation to generation.
And if you talk about lost Bitcoins, then I would say that as time goes by, people will be aware of their Bitcoin funds and will learn from the mistakes of previous people and create a system where they can keep their Bitcoins safe. We currently see that people are storing Bitcoins thinking about their next generation, in this case, I think that the private key of the Bitcoins where they are storing Bitcoins must be known to their next generation and they will be able to use them in the absence of those who are currently storing Bitcoins.
No matter how much Bitcoin is lost from the total supply, what is left after the loss, people may start using it in the form of sats when the value of 1 sats increases a lot.

Based on these possibilities, what do you think will happen in some decades when many of the private keys are lost?

What of when nearly all are lost?

Even though we may not know when this would be, I wonder what will happen when they're all lost.

If you die today, will your coins be lost?

Bitcoin right now or even other crypto wallet is become well known so I dont think so that most of them will lose their private keys its like they are giving away free money and we know if ended up lossing your private keys the same with your bitcoin too and its now become like other vanish bitcoin that no use.
Yeah most people try to keep their private keys very safe now, because it is same as securing your bitcoin but the truth is that some will still get lost. Due to carelessness, accidental loss, damage of device where it been stored or even the book or paper it was recorded, and other scenarios that can also lead to loss of private keys that wasn’t intentional. It is always important to have multiple secure backup locations to store private key to avoid future losses.

It is true that private keys will continue to be lost, but I will not say it is possible for all private keys to be lost. The reason is that people are learning from the mistakes of others. As they continue learning, they are more likely to take the right steps to avoid making the same mistakes that caused many people in the past to lose their private keys.Another point is that the value of Bitcoin is now very high. Because of this, nobody will hold Bitcoin in their wallet without providing proper security for it. Many of those who failed to protect their wallets in the past did not know that Bitcoin would increase in value so significantly within short period of time.so I believe the chances of many people losing their private keys in the future are low because people are becoming more informed and aware of the importance of securing their private keys.

Scarcity with huge demand drives the price up.  By then Bitcoin will be very valuable.  The more Bitcoin is lost, the scarcer it became thus the possibility of price skyrocketing is very possible.

If all are nearly lost, I think it will become a collector's item just like the ancient relics, a legacy that worth possibly billions to trillions per coins

Bitcoins that are lost or inaccessible will just sit idly on the address, unless the developer  consent an update to claim lost coin.

If you die today, will your coins be lost?

Depends, if the person prepared for the family to know his private key when he passed away, the coins won't be lost, but if there are no other people knows his passphrase, then that coins might be lost.

I think Bitcoin will last for several generations. The only exception to this would be a major world war that causes the entire internet to collapse and not come back anytime soon. Or if aliens invaded Earth, which is a low possibility. Grin Other than that, under normal circumstances I don't think anything will happen to Bitcoin.
Losing private keys isn't a problem. People need to learn how to secure their wallets properly. If I were to die today, nothing would happen to my coins because my heirs could access my wallet. I've taken the necessary precautions for that. Everyone should do the same.

Yes, Bitcoin holders are constantly losing their wallet security phrases, especially when an investor dies suddenly due to a natural disaster or stroke or any other reason, they do not get the opportunity to transfer the wallet security phrase they left behind, so it is lost forever. In this way, the supply of Bitcoin will constantly decrease, and the price of Bitcoin may increase more than once imagined. But if all the holders in the world lose their security phrases, then Bitcoin may not survive from generation to generation. But such a situation will not come where all the holders in the world will lose their wallet security phrases.
Those who are basically wise investors and holders are basically saving their wallet security seed phrases very carefully and of course transferring them to their next generation. Like I have left my wallet security system between my wife and children so that they can recover it in my bad situation.

Well I don't know what would happen if all private keys are lost, since I don't know much of technical things. But the possibility of all private keys getting lost is very small.

And if I die, which I'm not dying anytime soon and I didn't tell any member of my family or anyone my seed phrase or private keys, then  my Bitcoin is lost and lost forever,  because it is said that Bitcoin is fully lost when it becomes inaccessible and there is no realistic way to recover it.

Perhaps, you should stop wondering what would happen if all private keys are lost,  and focus more on accumulating Bitcoin through DCA method until you accumulate a decent amount of Bitcoin and then hold it for long term.

Bitcoin lifespan is not been disclosed by satoshi. So nobody knows the lifespan of bitcoin, whosoever that invest in bitcoin, they do that because of trust and passion they have in bitcoin, because nobody if bitcoin will die today or not...

Private key doesn't die if I'm mistaken, if someone who is holding a large numbers of bitcoin dies without writing out it seed phrase out, and nobody is opportune to found out were the private key is kept, it's obvious that the bitcoin is been lost...but if they can found the private key, they can access the bitcoin anytime no matter how long it has been without been login....

Unfortunately, its hard to tell for now. There are already developments with bitcoin, but the outcome remains uncertain. So let's just hope for positivity always.

However, seeing the huge demand of bitcoin, not only as an investment but even as a currency, I really think that a brighter future awaits for bitcoin. Bitcoin will last if the people will allow it, if there are continued patronage in the market. Bitcoin will stop its existence if the people will chose to leave its technology, and forget everything about bitcoin. Or bitcoin will stop if there is  a shutdown or collapse of its network.

Will those lost coins remain lost forever? I mean, with quantum computer coming to light some day, can't it be used to extract most of these lost private keys, since the owners want to be able to access them and move the coins to quantum resistance address.

People are wiser now, not like the old days when bitcoin had no value and holders did not take keeping their private key safe seriously, so the possibility of what you are imagining happening is very low.

I think those coins are referred to as lost coin(don't recall if I got the exact name) but the more private that are lost making those coins inaccessible, the more valuable bitcoin becomes, we don't have to be worried about the future of bitcoin because I believe bitcoin pin is already getting widely accepted and if there would ever be a time when all coins can't be accessible (which is very unlikely) I believe there would definitely be some ways around it considering how advanced technologies are becoming.

Just take relax and seek possible ways to accumulate and store your coins properly and also how to safely pass it to the people you would leave behind just incase you're no more.

The future of Bitcoin is not definite, but the ability to survive through all these years cannot be overlooked. Bitcoin has endured stock market crashes, exchange shutdowns, mining bans, and even attacks without losing popularity among users and developers. The success of Bitcoin is determined by the usage, decentralization, and security of the network, not by the fluctuations in its price. The probability of total breakdown of the network is minimal since there are many independent nodes and miners maintaining it.

I think one generation is about 30 years and working with that, will Bitcoin last as longb as we imagine? Some private keys are already lost and many more are getting lost because their owners died without passing then on or they simply lost them.

Based on these possibilities, what do you think will happen in some decades when many of the private keys are lost?

What of when nearly all are lost?

Even though we may not know when this would be, I wonder what will happen when they're all lost.

If you die today, will your coins be lost?
Bitcoin will last for a long time, including generations after generations. It is a system that is created in such a way that no one is controlling it, so there is no option to shut it down or stop it. You can run a node on your computer and create a bitcoin wallet there, and make transactions. Now it is true that people's seed phrases are being lost, the owner is dying, so many bitcoins have been frozen so far, and it is normal that such incidents will happen in the future. However, since the price of bitcoin was low in the past, people did not give it much importance, now that bitcoin has become valuable, people will give importance and try to ensure that the seed phrase is not lost. Even then, if a large number of bitcoins are frozen every decade, it is not that bitcoin will be lost forever. Over time, the popularity of Bitcoin will increase, the demand will increase and the supply of Bitcoin will continue to decrease, while if there is a freeze, the supply in the market will also decrease, resulting in an even higher price. It is true that there is no central system to recover the wallet passphrase if it is lost. But now that people are aware, they store it properly and also give access to it to their children or trusted family members so that they can use it in absence. So in reality, the idea that Bitcoin will completely disappear due to the lack of access to some Bitcoins is completely baseless.
