I totally understand what you mean, small capital wants to quickly generate significant profits by using 10x leverage. Although it sounds very reasonable on paper, in the long term it will be one of the quickest ways to run out of capital.

Leverage is like borrowing money from an exchange, for example $100 with 10x leverage, meaning you hold a position worth $1000. Bitcoin is highly volatile, if its value drops by 10%, your 10x leveraged position will be instantly liquidated. Bitcoin price fluctuations are commonplace, with it dropping by up to 10% overnight. So, you must be 100% accurate in your direction and timing. A single mistake could result in the loss of your capital and the inability to hold onto it until it reaches $200,000.

Leverage is a short-term trading tool, not for long-term investment. It's important to note that those who succeed in Bitcoin investing aren't the quickest, but the most consistent and long-lasting. Instead of using leverage, it's better to invest using DCA because it can give you more peace of mind and give you the opportunity to enjoy future returns.

right now my income isn't high so buying one or two whole bitcoins on the spot market isn't feasible for me. However, I’ve had an idea: what if I invest a small amount of money to buy BTC using leverage—say, 10x—to generate significant profits, and then hold it for the long term, selling during the next bull run (for instance, at a price above $200k)?
You don’t have to buy 1 or 2 bitcoin, lots of people holding bitcoin are not holding 1 or 2 bitcoin, you can invest any amount you having into bitcoin investment, and it’s not written in anywhere that you must buy upto 1 bitcoin. In my country getting 1 bitcoin is a huge amount of money, and most people don’t even have that amount of money, but that doesn’t mean they are not going to invest the little amount which they having into bitcoin.

I won’t even encourage you to put the little amount you have into leverage trading. Hope you know if you start trading leverage you might end up losing everything you have? You might end up getting liquidated, so instead of trading leverage, it’s better you just use the money to buy any amount of bitcoin which you can get then hold. The more you earn, the more you should keep on accumulating more bitcoin.

Having a limited capital isn't a problem, but the question is, are you sure you can hold your coins longer like targeting the price of $200k before selling it? Or you might end up with panic selling due to highly unpredictable market volatility that test your patience and perseverance?

Things are easier said than done, and we cannot sure that things will happen accordingly based on our plans an goals. The whole concept of bitcoin and crypto market is full of uncertainty, that's why if you decide to buy with leverage, make sure to prepare yourself to lose than expect to profit.

Personally, many people in BitcoinTalk probably CAN'T. Although, it would be nice to be proven that I'm wrong. Plus OP probably doesn't know that if you "buy" a Bitcoin perpetual futures contract with leverage, you pay an hourly fee to keep the position open. The fees paid reduces the capital you used as collateral, then THAT makes the liquidation price nearer and near to your entry price.

It's easier to be a long-term investor by merely buying Bitcoin, then put that in cold-storage than trading with leverage. It also gives the user a lower probability of losing his/her capital.

I don't buy into the idea of going into future trading (market) when your funds are limited, you never know what the market has in plan that is why you always have to come prepared and with large funds. Since your funds are limited I will recommend DCA and invest via the spot market. It gives you more leverage that way instead of trying to leverage on the small amount of money you have to invest via futures, the market will disappoint you as it always does. What you need right now is quantity since you have limited funds and the only way you can do that is to buy Bitcoin through the spot market and then hodl in your personal wallet. Just buy first then you will see how it becomes more easy to keep on buying, if you have skilful trading strategies then you can buy and sell and increase your hodling amount.

When people mistakenly believe that they need to have cash or a large sum of money saved up before investing in Bitcoin, it is a bit of a problematic mindset. Many people do not realize that they are doing themselves a disservice by not starting to invest in Bitcoin as soon as possible, whether it is $100 or $10 or some other small amount. Over the years, many people have gotten into Bitcoin by investing small amounts on a weekly basis or for other relatively short periods of time, and they would never have been able to save that much money in cash. So, if we only measure the amount of money they have invested in Bitcoin, without counting the increase in the value of Bitcoin  they are still locking up a huge amount of value little by little  and a mountain of value is created that is both accumulating and being invested in something that could potentially have a big upside surprise in the future, and of course there is no guarantee that these upside surprises will happen. Therefore, every investor needs to determine an amount that they will continuously invest in Bitcoin, keeping in mind the possibility that the potential for profit from it in the future may or may not materialize.

You can invest any amount in Bitcoin, this opportunity is available in Bitcoin investment. Invest according to your investment ability, it is a very good idea. But of course, keep your daily expenses and emergency fund separate. Because if you invest your emergency fund, then you will not be able to keep that investment for a long time. In the case of investment in Bitcoin, you always have to think long-term, so manage the investment fund in such a way that you do not need that money for the next 10 years. In any situation, you can manage that Bitcoin without selling it. Then you will get good profits by investing in any amount.

No. I don't think it's a good idea because the BTC futures market carries high risks, especially with small capital due to high leverage. Even a small price movement that you mispredict could wipe out your entire capital or even more.

Bitcoin is highly volatile, and in my opinion futures are not an investment because it's purely speculative, and the chances of losing everything are much higher than making a large profit. So, a safer alternative with small capital is to buy spot BTC directly and hold it long term or use DCA regularly or gradually. The bottom line is that investing is better than investing small but smartly, rather than trying the risky futures market.

Futures market does not guarantee profits. It will only sabotage your small capital and put yourself at a higher financial loss especially if you think of leveraging. But if its comfortable for you to lose that certain amount of capital, then try it, but I can't give assurance that it will end up with a positive outcome.

Futures market involved substantial risk. And because the crypto market is known to be high volatile in nature, add to it is your plan to take leverage, then what I have to say is prepare yourself to lose.

I would rather risk buying from the spot market, at least you can have immediate ownership on your desired asset, rather than risking into futures market that offers no guarantees but high risk of loss.

Look, if you plan to hold Bitcoin for the long term, then it is good, but if you want to start investing in Bitcoin for the long term, you definitely need to build an emergency fund quickly. Because if you plan to hold Bitcoin for 10 to 12 years, then you will definitely need to build an emergency fund so that you do not have to sell your Bitcoin investment for that need.

While the spot market is comfortable, given my small budget, I’m considering buying BTC on the futures market using a leverage ratio that I deem safe  Smiley

You can certainly proceed as planned at this stage, but you need to be careful that the 10% leverage you are using is a bit risky. If you continue to try to make regular income from futures, it can disrupt your plan.
So be careful and if you rely on more discretionary income, then your Bitcoin investment will be much easier. And you will also be able to hold Bitcoin for the long term.

Some of our fellow plebs will definitely need to lose their money/capital/savings twice, or more times, before actually learning their lesson. I was lucky that I learned "the lesson" only ONCE, and I didn't lose a lot of my savings because I saw Bitcoin as already good for buying EVERY DIP.

But we will continue to discourage our fellow plebs from "trading", OK?

It is not necessary for you to own one or two Bitcoin in your wallet before you can benefit from Bitcoin. Any amount used to buy Bitcoin can potentially earn you profits if the price of Bitcoin increases. So, I don't agree with the idea of trying to trade with the little amount you may have because you could end up losing it all. Investing the little income that comes your way is a better approach. Gradually, it is very possible that one day you will end up owning the one or two Bitcoin you dream of.The key point is to be consistent in accumulating Bitcoin. And, as I said earlier, a person ability to benefit from Bitcoin does not depend solely on how many Bitcoin someone own, but  how patient someone can hold Bitcoin for the long term.

Futures trading is always risky, and if you use a lot of leverage, it is more challenging. But you said here that your money is small, which is why you will not be able to make much profit by trading in the spot market, so if you invest a small amount of money in futures trading for a long time, there is a high possibility of your loss here.
When you use that leverage, it is risky for your work, so I think if you have a long-term plan, then it would be better to invest in Bitcoin.
However, if Bitcoin reaches $200,000 as you have imagined, then you will have a good profit, but you have to keep in mind that when you futures with high leverage, then if the market dumps, you will be liquidated.
So I will tell you that if you have a long-term plan, then you can invest through DCA instead of futures trading, it will give you good profit in the future. But you cannot afford to invest a lot of money, so you can gradually increase your Bitcoin using the DCA strategy.

It's not only trading futures with leverage. It's trading IN GENERAL. We PLEBS simply have NO EDGE against the professional traders who have more capital to last longer stretches of losing months than us. They also have the skill and their army of bots are definitely faster at automated execution while PLEBS like US try to chase the same trades manually.

We plebs are LAUGHABLE.

While the spot market is comfortable, given my small budget, I’m considering buying BTC on the futures market using a leverage ratio that I deem safe  Smiley
You should abandon that idea and be patient, even with a small capital rather than overexerting yourself in the futures market. It's better to go slow and steady than to push yourself too hard, hoping for greater profits and ultimately losing everything. Patience is fundamental when you're involved in the crypto world, especially Bitcoin.

Even with limited capital you should still use the DCA strategy and store it in a wallet you control. Even with a small budget you should still avoid storing it on spot CEX as there have been numerous cases of Exchanger bankruptcy. The futures market is indeed tempting offering the prospect of large profits and then saving them for the long term, but the problem with futures markets is that they carry very high risks. I mean, don't try to seek larger capital from the futures market as you'll end up losing everything. So, it's better to continue DCA on Bitcoin with a small capital even if it's slow but sure.

I would say you are right in the direction, but the aggressiveness of it. We are not laughable, and we can still make profit. I know that I have, and it has helped my life insanely. We do not need to turn 100 dollars into a million dollars to call it a success, turning 2k dollars into 9k dollars is still a success and helps life out a lot. I had a period in my life where I saved a lot, got as much bitcoin as I could, and made a good chunk of profit, nearly 5x return, and used that money to pay off something I otherwise wouldn't be able to. That is success, and that is enough to be happy about.

Trading futures should be depending on your level of accuracy of your technical. It means, if you are able to achieve consistency then I guess, there would be nothing wrong in trading futures. Usually technical analysis may not support you everyday even for volatility of spot market which is the reason why we never need to think about futures market. Moreover, investing in futures as per OP asks, should be a short term plan hence it should be consider just trading.

You are asking the question and then answering it yourself. So what should we interpret from this?

I think all the traders here know how leverage works. Instead of using leverage to hold for the long term, they know that they can make a similar profit in almost a day by trading with leverage. Traders and Bitcoin holders should be completely differentiated. If you want to become a Bitcoin holder then buying Bitcoin without any leverage is the best option. But yes, you need to think long term that is at least for four years.

Otherwise if you don’t love your money, try holding Bitcoin with leverage and let the community know the outcome.

There should be different between bitcoin holders and traders. If you are to hold bitcoin, there is no need to take the risk of using leverage, you should rather buy and hold your bitcoin in your wallet without leverage; you will still make your profit with the investment if you are holding for long, and you can buy more to the wallet if you have another money to buy more.

If you want to trade, using low leverage is good, it will prevent you from losing your capital easily, but you still need to have the knowledge to use leverage and how to trade.

right now my income isn't high so buying one or two whole bitcoins on the spot market isn't feasible for me. However, I’ve had an idea: what if I invest a small amount of money to buy BTC using leverage—say, 10x—to generate significant profits, and then hold it for the long term, selling during the next bull run (for instance, at a price above $200k)? You sound like someone who doesn't have much knowledge about futures trading and how it works in general, and based on that, I would recommend that you stay away from it because futures trading is not for beginners, because you need extensive knowledge about trading itself and the market to actually be able to make some money from futures trading, otherwise, you will only end up losing your money.

Futures trading is not like spot where you buy a specific cryptocurrency and hold it until you decide to sell it back. In futures, you trade contracts and have positions that you can adjust, hold, or close whenever you feel like it, and you don't have the choice to keep them open forever despite the condition of the market because positions get liquidated when the market either moves up or down based on the position being a long or short one.

There is much more than that to it, which is why I initially said that you are probably not fit to be doing futures trading, so maybe just keep saving and then buy bitcoins when you have enough.

It seems like he's interested in futures trading to make short-term profits. With a small capital and low leverage, how much can be made? Not to mention if the capital runs out. If he can trade, it's actually fine for him to follow his trading plan. Let him experience it himself and take lessons for the best steps to take next.
