If there were available jobs that are commensurate to our population, it would never been an issue that some employers are being tribalistic when employing people. the major concern is the fact that jobs are not all that available relative to the number of graduate we keep producing on a yearly.

Most of the openings we see once in a while are even from the private sector because the system that is runed by the public sector rarely allows fresh graduate access to such a system. If we have a concerned government, maybe we will see more employable youths that are capable of occupying some key positions and maybe starting up a career on their own. but in a situation where most of them are poorly trained, how can they stand on their own.

Unemployment is going to continue rising in Nigeria because the government and other individuals prioritized building more schools and they are not balancing it up with building of factories for manufacturing. When you keep  supplying manpower without making provisions for industries that will accommodate them, you will surely have problems of unemployment.

One of the major problems we have faced as a nation is unemployment by the government and they have not shown any interest in solving that particular one problem till date, we keep lamenting that there are no Jobs but I can tell you for free that there are lots of Jobs in this country but those that are at the hem of affairs results to giving the opportunity to their family members first and those that don't have connections are left out without consideration.

The private sectors are trying their best to employ some Youths into their companies but the public sector which is the government is making it worse as they don't embark on employment at all, all I can advise to any Youth is to go learn a skill and be self employed because waiting for government employment will be a total waste of time as they won't do any employment but they are secretly employing their family members into the system, Nigeria is very corrupt to the extent that if you don't have godfather you can't get a tangible Job.

You are right because that's simply just the possible way out especially now that their is no tangible Job even as a graduate. We can literally work on ourselves maybe learning one  skill or the other. I agree with with on some of your points mate, but I have to argue some because if you look at the rate of qualified graduates now in Nigeria that have not had a decent job since they finished school is really alarming. So many qualified graduates in Nigerian now, and if you look at the number of persons who have finished school in this country without a decent job, you will see that Nigerian government have really failed it citizen. For a country like this, it would have been better if we have a system that provides job for everyone that has been able to finish school with a degree because if that does not happen, the rate of corruption and evil in the country will never reduce.
It will shock you to know that most of the people perpetrating these evil acts are graduates, and they are doing those things out of anger.

The moment you are done with your school with your degree and you don't have a job, one always get angry, and the depression that follows it is really troubling. Knowing that your parents spent a reasonable amount of money training you in school, having in mind that you will finish and get a reasonable job that will liberate them, but what later happens after school saddens so many and then them into something they never expected to be. We pray Nigeria finds a solution to unemployment in the country so that our youths will better their life for good.

In the U.S, it's statistical that the private firms are the ones that employ the highest, at the end of the year, there are some token or grands given by the government to private firms to encourage them for what they are doing.  The government of Nigeria alone cannot handle the employment problem happening in Nigeria, the government really needs to partner and lobby private firms to help in this situation. But believe the kind leadership we have Are not really interested in human capital development, they are more concerned with politics and that is where we draw the lines, as issues concerning such level of development shouldn't be associated with political gymnastics.

What do we even call employment in this era? The last time I checked i still believe that so many peoplein in Nigeria today are still very much unemployed which sounds crazy…what i mean by this is that you are employed by your payroll but you still cannot pay bills still to me that is still unemployment, and the second phase where this country is really bleeding from, I think I would agree with what Charles-Tim is saying that 10.6% sounds so off because we all witness day by day to see how graduate of different types of schoolhave different diploma, certificate and are still become bike man, doing POS for a living, some days back i such a friend who just graduated as a Lawyer selling clothes on WhatApp, Technically now I guess we are to call them employed but hours are low, pay is low, and skills are wasted..

well its pretty much like you said the current government are not interested in human capital development. I believe that is one sign to call for a change in government, and try to eradicate the collective apathy of huge number of Nigerians especially with elections around the corner. Perhaps a more befitting candidate with values and manifestos that align with good governance and human capital development to steer the nation to a more stable economy.

Saying they are a-lot of half baked graduates which I agree on would only imply that our educational system as well is in shambles. Due to corruption, exploitation, greed and lack of infrastructure which indeed the government has a big role to play in it. Sure you can't always blame the government for all problems, but majority of challenges the average Nigerian face comes from the failures accumulated by our government. I'll explain, The country makes more than enough money to carter for certain basic social amenities like good roads, electricity, schools, parks, clean water yet they fail to provide these, inevitably the quality of living would be poor. The average graduate in Nigeria is not even informed in certain social and political topics whereas it should be norm, says a lot about how poor the educational system is too. Change is needed, a massive change is needed and at this point we have to seize it through a change in government so we can all be in a better place. This country is not only blessed with Natural resources but also abundance of talents, yet another way we can move forward but these talents aren't been exploited rather than they go silent cause then again the current government are not interested in human resource devlopment too but rather political schemes to fatten their pocket while the standard of living goes down day by day.

You made a good point mate, while others are still waiting on the government for job opportunities then get disappointed over and over cause the government careless, some are out there seeking solutions like using their physical and digital skills to create self employment, and they're not even recorded as being employed so I support that the underemployed data might be over exaggerated cause many Nigerian youths are now into crypto currency and tech, using their digital skills to earn good living.

I will only respond to some good points you made here, I will leave the unemployment data part untouched, at this material time, the best thing we can do for ourselves individually as Nigerians is to get some skills be it digital or any other skill that is sellable if we do not have any, hustle for oneself because the government do not give a fuck, it is unfortunate that we have a government that are very more concerned about embezzling funds air marked for infrastructure and other development here in our country.
Gone are those days when Nigerians complain about the government very much, people are becoming wise, there is this understanding many nigerians have now which is the government has nothing to offer, the digital space is housing many opportunities but it is left for us to get the skills that are selling, for us to survive, although it might not be too easy to get but we can grow to any level if we are determined, Nigeria is about survival of the fittest.

In think this is where most people make mistake, by thinking the private sector is the only solution we need, while forgetting the fact that private sectors were meant to offer secondary solutions and not the primary and key solutions we need. Because this issue of job is the sole responsibility of the government to provide. But it's sad that our public system have been so current to the point that some governors will run a complete 8years in office and yet not employ a single people into the workforce where people gets retired every year. Because it you go to most of the government offices, you won't see anybody, simply because the people who were there have retired and nobody to fill up the space, while some directors receiving salaries that was meant for 50 to 100 people each month. Forgetting the fact that there are people out there with no job.

Indeed tribalism and favouritism is actually one factor that have limited most people from getting a job opportunities, and until employers can prioritize competence over tride, at least there is a high chance that most people will have a job that they truly deserves.

Indeed, digital skills and remote jobs such as freelancing, YouTubing, blogging and copyrighting have actually help alot of Nigerian youths to live the life of their dreams. Since government have failed to provide them jobs, most of them now earn in foreign currencies by offering services they learnt through digital skills. So it has really been helpful.

My best advice is to learn a high demand skills at the moment, and right now A.I happens to be the most high demand skill at the moment, so if you can learn and master it very well, you could be offering it's services for people on Fiverr and earn in dollars.

All this cannot be put into consideration if there is no more job creation from the federal government. The economy of Nigeria is the one that’s suppose to push for more economically and efficient job creation, but the economy is not working towards that aspect and that’s the reason we are lacking behind and more unemployed youths than the employed ones. Other things you’ve mentioned that if considered can bring about more engagement of youths in practical skills, private sectors coming in to create jobs and also eliminations of tribalism and favoritism are all secondary factors, which if there is no job creation from the federal government, they won’t get to exist.

Yes na, underemployed data is more than 10.60%, I think is only 10% graduate that where able to secure a good and well paying job, 10% graduate are engaged in managerial work such as working in private sectors like school and so on. While the remaining 70.40% are jobless, they where unable to secure a better job despite having years of experience through learning. Majority of workers today are self employed, or working under someone's company. Government do not provide job opportunities for the people. People are only getting jobs now through connections or buying it with millions of naira, and how would you expect a lower class people to have money for it. These are the reasons why poverty still persist in Nigeria. The poors are getting poorer while the riches are getting more richer.
