People who are stubborn about taking the right precautionary measures wont mind investing with everything they've got. My conclusion on them is that they are high-risk takers. Taking risks without thinking properly. The best way for them to learn and change is if the risk costs them a lot of money. It will force them to learn from the mistake. It is not everyone who listens to advice and puts it into action immediately. The stubborn, ignorant ones will listen to the advice, then do what they intend to do, irrespective of the consequences.

They actually have their own choice if they follow or not, but if they try those risky thing just like common action done by lots of newbies.

I want to say this here that Robinhood doesn't make this a mandatory backup option. They also have a manual backup option and recommend writing down your seed phrase offline. Cloud backup is for convenience, not security.

He was willing to take the risk simply because it is Robinhood, they are big he said again, but there is no such thing as been big when it comes to your recovery seed I told him, I think this will probably safe one or two beginners on here too.

Agree, being a big company doesn't mean it's safe to store your seed phrase digitally. Once someone gains access to that seed phrase, they have full control of your wallet.

Cloud storage is a wrong place for your recovery seed, do not be misleaded by centralised crypto companies who are acting like they know what's best for everyone.

The problem is not the existence of the cloud option but rather those who consider it the default or most secure solution.  Offline backup is still the most acceptable method for those who want to take self custody.

@OP it is a good thing that you made an early reminder to your friend to not back up his seed phrases online.  We all know that it is not advisable because of the possible hacks and data leaks happening all over the internet.

Though I think the platform Robinhood is giving a feature choice for the user, and I do not think that is wrong since the user can choose what they think is convenient or secure.  I would always advise to choose the secured one, manually backing up seed phrases or private key, rather than the convenience of cloud storage holding our important data.

This simply means that, you shouldn't trust your key with a third party no matter how much you trust them and their services.  I've heard about this Robin-hood but haven't paid any actual attention to it because I haven't gotten any actual need for it.

I'm interested in your caption and I don't totally agree with it because I don't believe everyone should be totally blamed for getting mislead and I'm saying this because of a recent incidence in my neighborhood where a lady invested in a project promoted by her favorite celebrity not knowing to her that it was fishy and she ended up losing her money and when I heard her side of the story, I didn't actually have to tally blame her as there are people that have so much fan love for their favorite celebrity and would do almost everything ask of them.

It is good to explain or advise a person once or twice in the beginning, but if the person does not listen even after that, then it is not right to advise him at all, because he will not listen to you until he faces danger for his decision. I am directly involved in this matter. I have a friend who was involved in smoking and drugs and in the beginning I explained to him a lot so that he should not do all these things and come back to the good path, but he did not listen to me then and I did not say anything to him later. But a few days ago my friend came to me and cried a lot and at that time he apologized a lot for not listening to me. His addiction has now caused physical problems and for which he is now apologizing. So if someone does not understand, then there is no need to explain him, but leave him in his position, when he faces danger, he will be able to understand on his own.

My thoughts as well, if you are using your device on apps sometimes Google can suggest you save your logins to their backup cloud so it is very possible that in this case it wasn't from Robinhood and it just another pop up suggestion from Google.

I'm not sure that was the case here. Password and recovery phrase are two different things, how you enter your recovery seed to access your wallet is quite different from how you login to other platforms. Google trigger such suggestions when they noticed you registered on a site with username and password for conveniency and bind it with your Google account for easier access.

You don't create a wallet with username and password. It's entirely a different process. Google can not make such suggestion because they know the implications. I have seen other wallets too that suggest users to back up their seed to cloud. I won't be surprised if Robinhood did the same thing. Now, people will know the kind of dev they are dealing with.

I don’t bother forcing advice on people I’ve clearly seen that they constantly reject it, because I believe that sometimes, some people are better off learning from experience, you know what they say about experience being the best teacher. A mentor needs to be strategic about who he/she is advising. If you know a community or individual who is mentally ready to receive your advice, offer them advice. An experienced person did not reach this stage in a day, he/she has gained this experience by facing many obstacles.

I think it is our responsibility to give people the right advice, if he is a person close to you then explain things to him twice or thrice instead of once so that he does not face great danger by taking wrong decisions. Our responsibility is to give the right advice but if he understands then it is only good for him and if he does not understand and sticks to his decision and acts accordingly then it is completely his responsibility and the harm will be due to his own wrong decision and no one else can be held responsible for it. You have given him good advice but it is completely his own matter to accept it, if the person is aware then he will take the right advice according to your words and save himself from great harm.

You’re very correct, anyone who value their crypto assets is supposed to treat their recovery phrase like their money. Saving it in cloud storage isn’t that safe because if your email or cloud account got hacked, the attackers may gain full access to your wallet. In crypto, security isn’t something to be joke with.

 Once your funds leave your wallet because your recovery phrase has been leaked, most time it will be very difficult to recover it. That’s why everyone is supposed to learn the main basic security rules before putting your money into crypto.  The safest way for me is to write your recovery phrase down in a paper and keep it offline for security purposes.

Many people know this but, they just don’t care. Just how often does these hacks on the clouds happen, be it Google cloud or iCloud, almost never of course it did happen with Google but, it takes years for either of these to happen.

People have built their comfort about these probability and almost never care that it could someday be a reality. They rely on the comfort of how easy it is to reproduce and how secured it can be online.
Something they forget, your information can be accessed any-day and anytime by the authorities through means that would be founded in the law.

It’s best you keep your seeds secured yourself and offline too, not even on any electronic device.

Yes, they are very aware of their decisions when they want to invest, but not because they have studied all the risks, but because of FOMO and greed so they ignore the right advice just to get big profits overnight. That's right, Research and Investment are key, but research here is not about guessing tomorrow's price, but about understanding what to buy. The research I mean is not looking for a get-rich-quick recipe, but rather finding the right recipe for building discipline. If the research is carried out in the right direction, such as using cold money, DCA (long-term holding), and securing assets in the safest place (not your key, not your coins), then the success rate of beginners in investing is very high.

Absolutely, investment is about personal choice and yes, it's up to them to do the right thing to ensure they don't lose everything they have invested so far. I had to lecture this guy to never give in to any cloud storage backups, even if Robinhood own the cloud storage this is wrong.

It's not actually a Robinhood feature. It's simply using Google Drive as an optional backup location. If I remember correctly, TrustWallet also offered a similar option, allowing users to back up their wallet to Google Drive or save it manually.

The feature is mainly for convenience. While some people choose to use cloud backups, it's generally not recommended if your main priority is security. For better protection, it's still safer to store your recovery phrase offline in a secure location, rather than relying solely on cloud storage.

Reading your words reminded me of a proverb. That proverb was, "People who try to understand too much always end up facing loss." I have completely found proof of this and whatever has been happening throughout the ages matches this. So, when you are telling someone something, if you see that they are trying to understand too much then it is better to stop talking there.

No matter how valuable your words are, people who think they understand too much will never give them any importance. So, it is better not to waste time by telling them anything.
