Hello! If you are the recipient of a recent signature ban and would like to appeal it, please use this thread to make your appeal. (I've been given the ability to issue signature bans). Your ban was issued because your recent posting habits fall below forum standards of quality. Substandard posting habits considered in the decision to issue the ban include at least two of the following: - Unoriginal or low effort replies, including inappropriate use of AI content. - Repetitive, previously-expressed or generic comments that don’t add value or encourage conversation. - Consistent burst posting (regularly writing posts less than 10 minutes apart). - Off‑topic posting or shallow engagement (doesn't provide insight, analysis or perspective). - Posting in principle for signature campaign payment and not for the sake of contributing actual discussion. If you believe your signature ban is incorrect or you've made some improvement to your posting habits, please feel free to explain your case below.

Any special reason why they should appeal here instead of creating a separate thread? Because I'll see it more quickly and issues regarding sig bans can be discussed in a central thread. Right now nobody knows to look for this thread if they get sig banned, but they might later.

Wonderful development, I believe this will really help clean and continue keeping the forum clean. However I have some questions. First you talked about Unoriginal or low effort replies, to make it more clear to everyone, does a short write up make a post a low effort reply? What actually make or determine a post to be a low effort reply.
What are the measures used to determine if members are posting in principle for signature campaign payment and not for the sake of contributing actual discussion?
Lastly is there a thread where people can report members they believe should be given a signature ban.

From what I could infer you can correct me if I'm wrong We would be seeing more Signature ban in an attempt to curb and at least improve the quality of the forum Which I can already picture been effective if it gets known. First you talked about Unoriginal or low effort replies, to make it more clear to everyone, those a short write up make a post a low effort reply? What actually make or determine a post to be a low effort reply.
This could help Such posts as "SELL SELL SELL", "I agree", "+1", "Support", "Watching", "Interesting", "LOL", "SCAM", "LEGIT", "FAKE", other one word posts, posts consisting mostly of swearing, quote pyramids, useless introduction threads, threads about a topic already recently discussed in several other threads.

A change log (banned/unbanned sig) would be a nice addition to this thread.
Exposing it on modlog or separate similar api like "siglog" maybe. Takes out the tedious manual input that nutildah would have to do.

Hello!
If you are the recipient of a recent signature ban and would like to appeal it, please use this thread to make your appeal. (I've been given the ability to issue signature bans). ~snip~
Can you confirm that you personally can issue a signature ban without anyone else's intervention? The question is, do you only propose bans that are then approved by the admins/global mod? Furthermore, how long are bans issued for?

Is this thread only for appealing a sig ban or can we request you to look into members we feel deserve a ban? If it's the former only, are you going to make another thread where users can request accounts be looked into or would that be too much drama in your opinion?

With what he has written in the topic, he will be able to ban any user signature. If you are the recipient of a recent signature ban and would like to appeal it, please use this thread to make your appeal. (I've been given the ability to issue signature bans).
This is a very good thing, I believe spammers and low quality posters may reduce with this. But what about people that are posting on a very long thread that supposed to just be locked? They mostly are repeating what they are posting.

However I have some questions. First you talked about Unoriginal or low effort replies, to make it more clear to everyone, those a short write up make a post a low effort reply?
This would be context dependent, for example this is a one liner post but it is on point. It doesn't really matter if your post is a one liner or not, what truly matters is the information and content of the post (did it answer a question correctly? And so on). Whereas a one line post can be the answer to a question, some users tend to write lengthy vague post that may not answer the question being asked or that do not contribute meaningfully to the discussion. In such a case it would be fair to say the one liner post is a quality post whereas the lengthy one was not. What actually make or determine a post to be a low effort reply.
Maybe you forgot to read this part of the OP: - Unoriginal or low effort replies, including inappropriate use of AI content. - Repetitive, previously-expressed or generic comments that don’t add value or encourage conversation. - Off‑topic posting or shallow engagement (doesn't provide insight, analysis or perspective).
FYI the answers to your questions are right in front of you

(I've been given the ability to issue signature bans). That sounds a lot cooler than being able to whitelist users! Serious question: do you also have the ability to "undo" those bans? As far as I know most "normal" Mods can only ban, not unban.

Any special reason why they should appeal here instead of creating a separate thread?
It's not truly the same but somewhat overlaps. Second chances.Users who were permanently banned having signatures disabled and if they appeal for second chances, signature bans will be applied, just different ban times. I think if they want to bargain about their signature ban time, they can appeal in the second chances thread too. But likely they will not do it as having a second chance is already big gift for them. Serious question: do you also have the ability to "undo" those bans? As far as I know most "normal" Mods can only ban, not unban.
Reports must be composed by moderators, then sent it to global moderators or admins before a ban consideration or decision is made. Posts are reported to moderators who check out the report. If the poster needs to be banned, the moderator sends a ban report up to a global mod or admin. The global mod or admin handles all of the ban reports they get at around the same time. Either the admins or global mods don't need to check every account because they trust the moderators to have already done so, or they check quickly because every such report contains references and links to the plagiarism post and to the source text so checking takes little time.
Signature ban was only available for global moderators since 2019. Global mods were given the ability to ban signatures only yesterday. Do you think we can get through all the appeals in one day? Be patient.
Globals can now issue sig bans so it'll happen more often but isn't going to be a let off for everyone (so if half your posts are copy and pastes then forget about it but people who are getting banned for one or two posts from years ago will likely be shown some mercy).
Dang, after a long time, something good finally happened on forum. let's see where all the spammers run off to. So far I've seen 4 banned members: I did not know that it is about a new signature ban type only enforced recently, before I read your post and Loyce's post.

Will you sig ban users based on previously left AI tags by individuals, or this thread marks a new beginning for all. - Repetitive, previously-expressed or generic comments that don’t add value or encourage conversation.
If you will sig ban users posting previously expressed ideas, this will leave many people banned after the 5th page of every thread.

This would be great and should encourage people to pay attention to their own posts before clicking on a post (at least since today).
But I have a little question about the points to focus on in the violations that are made, I think this should be clearer, such as if Bob violate only one of all that is prohibited, then how long the punishment will be given, we need clearer criteria about any law in the forum, or maybe it depends on the subjectivity of the assessor?
Another example of a case like Bob in one week has 1 Post that falls under the criteria of "shallow involvement", but remains in the topic of discussion, how to measure bob's punishment, and how long will the ban penalty be given? or is everything on the same beat?

It is funny how a few legendary members (who aren't even wearing signatures anymore ) volunteer to clean the forum, And the reward is... recycling the same shitposters back into signature campaigns a few weeks later. 😄
|
Years ago, reaching Legendary meant people respected your opinion. Today, it mostly means you've been around long enough to comment on everything for a signature campaign.

As far as I know most "normal" Mods can only ban, not unban. From the title of the thread, it means he has the power to ban and unban which is why appeal is on the subject. I'm supposing that if the appeal of a banned user is accepted, he will consider unbanning such user. I just guessed based on the title, it's still up to him to clarify. In my opinion, this is a cool stuff that will make the forum better with time. At the beginning it may look controversial and I hope we are able to come to a clearer understanding of how this will work.

So far I've seen 4 banned members: Based on their signatures ( 1, 2, 3, 4), I think they were banned 4-5 days ago. Usually, shitposters stop posting the moment their signature gets banned, but all 4 of them are still posting! If they would be human, they'd realize their signature is gone. Are they all bots?
