In every nations this set of people is certainly there, many people work for years and gather experience, become exposed to politics and leadership, admire positions and opportunities to rule, if finally by virtue of elections you're vote into an office they assume a legal rights to steal and loot public funds, They same person who was once working with all Obedience to serve their boss, will in a long run forget the past and pursuits selfish interest, I don't know if leadership automatically baptize one into corruption in some Africa nations and other part of the world using lobby as an approach to stealing public funds. But can nation like Nigeria that is so much with corruption fought corruption? Since the supposed leaders who was supposed to fight corruption are involved?

Electing out bad government is the only way out from corruption but Nigeria case is different because elections are been rigged which makes the voice of the people silent and their votes useless. The judiciary that's the hope of the common man has been a weapon that is used to fight these common citizens that their interest should be protected. The whole system is corrupt in Nigeria and that's why nothing is working to comb corruption.

There's one thing we need to understand. If a person is corrupt, the person is corrupt. Is not like there is something in politics that is making people corrupt, no. There's nothing that is making people do that. Those people that change is because the corruption was already in them. Politics is not corrupt. But people are.
There's no system that allows corruption. Or have you seen where corruption is allowed in their constitution? No. It's always a well written constitution. But people will always be people. Corrupt people will always be corrupt. Good people will always be good. Power doesn't corrupt but the people who wield it are corrupt. If a good person wield it, he will do good things. If a bad person weilds it, then the bad things happen. Simple.

In a more non-sentimental approach, I really do not see lobbying funds as bad for the economy when leaders are doing what must be done. Every country has corrupt leaders, but the difference is that some of these leaders are selfish to the point that the interest of the citizens is secondary to their personal interest and that is where the problem is. In most developed countries, you would see that the government play a major role to improve the standard of living in the country with the provision of good roads, water supply, electricity, proper disposal system and other social amenities to make living easier for their citizens and this is done despite the lobbying of funds involved. But in a country like Nigeria where the leaders do nothing to improve the living standards but loot money for personal interest, it would be difficult to have a leader that could act differently, it's more like a poison that spreads within the government.

It is not only the duty of the leaders(politicians) to fight corruption, everyone is meant to put hands together to fight corruption because to be honest you don't only get to see corruption in high places, corruption can also be found in the lowest of places and if we all can fight corruption at least individually it will go along way. There are people with the barest minimum office that are super corrupt now imagine those people when they ever get to have a significant position.

This topic will fit for politics and society board or then Nigeria local board since it mentioned the country for a case study. Op move it there.
There is this summary I saw online that says "there is a difference between who is humble and who life humbled". People pretend to be humble and with great plans for their country when they are in far reach of the position of power but give them the opportunity that is when their true character is revealed.
I rather believe a wealthy man critiquing a bad system for what it is than a poor man doing it. Cause I do not for sure know what he would have done better or worse finding himself in the position he criticizes.

They say the best politicians are people who don't really have any interest in being in politics. Unfortunately that is extremely rare, because people do have to "play the game" on their ascension to the top even if they never wanted to do so. Power is very appealing to some and they are loathe to give it up easily, which doesn't just apply to individuals but the networks that sit behind them. Whether that is political parties or connections that fund those parties. That's all happening within fairly established structures in many "Western" countries that have matured their systems in relative stability over many centuries, with all the backup institutions that could probably keep a country running without a leader. Africa does not have that, so it is often those who can project the most physical power will end up taking it all.

Yes, when people are in the trenches we are humble to the earth because we seek loyalty, favor and support but when in the cause of life you climb the ladder of leadership you scum to what others are doing in the system, that's why the power keep revolving within the same party or groups of cartels or controls by God-fatherism and we are tired of this hardship societies are experiencing because of incompetent leadership or leaders who rather thinks of luxury cars, mansion, holidays, vacations and self-centeredness, we need better and creative idea leaders who are will to undo this system.

There is a time of reckoning. These corrupt politicians will not be in their positions forever and they can't live like that forever. There's a time of reconciliation but it will be from new set of leaders who truly have concern for its nation. I think that people despite the hard situation and political conflict are becoming wiser because the kind of leadership that are being governed to them are visible. We can't turned a blind eye into the corruption and bad leadership that they have. So, it's only a matter of time and someone who's got to be believed by people has to step up.

The people of the country must come forward to fight corruption first, then the politicians of the country. When do leaders get a chance to commit corruption? When the people of the country are afraid to protest or forget to protest. If the leaders are corrupt, it is natural that government employees or people in other professions will become corrupt. So change yourself first and change the people around you, then call for change at the state level. Remember, no leader directly commits fraud in elections, rather many ordinary people have a hand in this fraud. These people, greedy for a little money, create an opportunity for a corrupt leader to win the election and commit corruption, when the leaders do not get helpers to commit corruption, they will not be able to commit corruption.
Corruption has spread everywhere in Nigeria. From a farmer to the government of the country, almost everyone is involved in corruption, how is it possible to control this corruption? Where to start? We cannot find any direction. Only by suppressing corruption from the grassroots level, it is possible to eradicate corruption from the entire country.

you think Nigeria politicians are the most corrupted people in the world? No, you can find out the most corrupted leaders or human being on earth and you will know that Nigerian is not the mosy corrupted country in the world you mentioned, to say the truth, is corruption a good thing for leaders to involve themselves in a country, no is not a good behavior and some of the people that are doing this cheating in some government positions, it's difficult for them to live a good life that will make people live to remember them for good because they don't have something meaningful to show to people that they have use their office to create for the betterment of the people in that cory.

If we should continue to have all these African politicians being pardoned, not jailed for life, as corrupt politicians. Those who are newly exposed to politics and the younger generation will see politics as a means to steal public funds.
I think that if the rule of law should be strictly enforced on politicians, with those stealing public funds being executed or spending years in prison. I believe the high rise of corruption in Africa will be minimized.
The problem we will have in African politics is that the money and the level of power being given to political offices is too much. If it is being cut down(reduced), there will be a call to serve the people with genuine minds and intentions

We can talk about corruption and corrupt practices of leaders all day and we would never see the end of it, that's why it is imperative that every individual citizen decides the on the best approach to secure their financial future and try not to be dependent on these leaders for survival. Corruption is a global phenomenon that threatens peace, development and safety of any country. When you vote, please do so having done personal research and study and have a conclusive evidence on the accountability of the individuals you vote for.
I thank God the introduction of Bitcoin brought about financial soverignty and that's why when the politicians and leaders are lobbying and looting, you who have seen the light of Bitcoin should do well to accumulate, strategize and invest properly to have a better future for yourself and your family inorder not to be bothered about the corrupt practices of a few miscreants.

Corruption is one of the biggest challenge that a country have to face but leadership is not automatically making people corrupt, power exposes a person to values and character. There are people who enter the offices by having good intension but later they became part of illegal activities because of the desire of having personal wealth or pressure or the weak institutions while there are other people who enter with honesty and they still remain honest despite having the same opportunities. Nigeria is fighting corruption but it does not only require electing new members but beyond that there must be strong institutions they must have an independent judiciary system they should have transparent public spendings and free media and their citizens who are willing to hold public officials accountable regardless of their political affair. Corruption is always there in Nigeria and Africa it is not new it is the part of the world and it existed always the difference is how effectively the countries detect and investigate and then punish the culprit.

Are you corrupt or not? I hate to see things like this saying Nigeria is a corrupt nation, everyone is corrupt but those who are found guilty are the ones called most corrupt.
Even the ordinary man set with power and money which are the things that changes the behavior of a man will be corrupt one way or the other. So what make it special for Nigeria. Can you point me a politician in the world not Nigeria only that is not corrupt?
Corruption cannot be erased but can be minimized on how it’s used and how frequently you can be corrupt. But it’s not something that goes away.

Unfortunately power and position can easily bring out the corruption in peopl e or can easily show how corrupt some people are. This is the exact reason why you can see that someone who did not show any sign of corruption suddenly becomes corrupt once they assume a political office or a position of power or influence. But can nation like Nigeria that is so much with corruption fought corruption? Since the supposed leaders who was supposed to fight corruption are involved?
It is not only the leaders who are corrupt in this case, even the citizens need reorientation because it is the citizens who later turn out to become leaders and if they can be reoriented as citizens, when they become leaders they will be better leaders.

I genuinely think in some cases people get elected to governmental positions both regional/local and National with the best of intentions to serve their voters but in a short time they come to realise the governmental system machine is far greater than a few politicians and cannot be changed easily if at all. Then the politicans can fall into corruption to some degree.

It is heart breaking to know that the people we elect into position to speak for us then they the citizens, they in return back with the power to fight kill take us all slaves. They spent huge amount to make sure they rig the election to remain in power as long as they can manipulate every process to have their way. They are not ready to work for anyone rather than getting everything available in other to enrichment them self.

I actually thought I was reading a post on the local board. But focusing on the fact here is that most leaders, not just Africa leaders are corrupt. The difference between an African leader and those from Europe is that they understand how to build even whist been corrupt. I believe that most African leaders don't have any idea how to work an economy. They go into power to, sit there for years but only fill their bank while giving us fake promises without any workings to show. Corruption can be fought, but the problem is that those who are meant to fight against it are also corrupt.
