To me, the amount is the most striking thing about the story. Shooting someone for the equivalent of $0.81? I don’t care how poor they are in that part of the country; I’d lock that bloke up for life. If it were for $81,000, I’d still condemn him, but at least I’d be able to understand the situation better.

This story is crazy, a guy from Cebu(a city in the Philippines) was beaten and shot in the arm by a gambler after he repeatedly asked him to share some of his wins with him. So, according to the article, a gambler won around 500 pesos($8) a week ago before the incident happened, and the guy who got shot asked the gambler to share some of the winnings with him(he was asking for 50 pesos, which is $0.81), but the guy refused, since then he kept pestering the gambler to share some of his winnings whenever they see each other, the guy asking for some of the winnings from the gambler would get angry and take some of the gambler's cigarrete without permission if the gambler refuse to share some of the winnings. Eventually, the issue escalated to a fist fight, and the gambler pulled out a gun and shot the guy on his arm. The guy was rushed to the hospital and received treatment, and the gambler was arrested and is being charged with frustrated homicide.

Just curious, is anyone else pissed off at the guy begging for some of the gambler's winnings despite what happened to him? I mean, I know the amount is extremely small, and he got shot, but to pester the gambler since the time he won and gets angry and steal a cigarette from the gambler if the gambler refuses to give him some of his winnings is just ridiculous.

This doesnt talk about being a gambler or what but this is usually normally shows on how a person would act out on the moment that you would be testing out its patience threshold then anyone would really be having that kind of potential action. Some might be able to hold up but there are those persons that once you do hit up that level then you would really be having knowledge on what it can potentially do into you. This is why there's a lesson learned for that person being shot is that dont force up someone if they dont want to because if someone keeps pestering you then it would really be something that test out that patience you do have but in the otherr hand its not right for it to be end up on shot by a gun just because you dont like on giving out some small amount. Actually both person does have that wrong actions.

This kind of news are just very irritating, I don’t really know what the culture is all about in the Philippines, but I feel a sense of entitlement in this story, however if someone wins a bet and you feel he should give you some money from the bet, What you do is by asking if the person refuse then you have to let go, it’s very ridiculous to hear such a thing happening all because you asked for some money in the winnings and when the person have refused he got angry and kept it in his mind to deal with him, keeping that in his mind is what resulted to that act of violence to take someones life.

People who are gambling should learn how to avoid such a violence act, some people can be very annoying and they will always test your patience to see what you will do, when you loose your patience then you eventually gets into trouble, I think people needs to be educated about gambling violence, and how to avoid such a violent act.

I think this is why some gamblers prefers online Casino where you can make your bet and gambling without anyone knowing about if you win or lose, unless you tell them, personally I try avoiding this local casino offices, violent behavior related to winnings and refusing to share percentage is common in those places.

I cant imagine if someone would piss me off that much that I would have to use weapon to make him stop bothering me. However I think that beggar was really a stupid guy, because I am sure he was warned not once and not twice that he will get shot if he does not stop. I would not have used a weapon, but if a guy keeps bothering me, shows aggression and takes my stuff without permission, I think that guy deserves a punch to the face.

Lucky for me I didn't experience that matter and that situation actually the reason I don't want to gamble physically, especially on questionable places.

Because there's instances that situation will exist knowing the environment and we don't know who are those people will act aggressively to us, those bad actions they made does not justify anything because its not good to harass people just because of things that they want.

Maybe somehow poverty and lack of discipline  is the reason why those people do such action, since sometimes that explains on why they show some aggression.

This is a strange incident. The gambler did this for a very small amount of money. There is  no doubt that this is the gambler's crime. But my  question is why did the gambler suddenly get so angry?

If someone bothers us, we might fight. But what about shooting them directly ? Or trying to kill them? I don't think any sane person would do this. The gambler won a very small amount  of money. Even then, another person demanded some of it from him. This was not right. So I definitely will not  shoot him. We  should be more patient. This is even more important for regular gamblers. If we don't have the ability to control ourselves, if we  have less patience, then we won't be able to profit from  gambling. We will become addicted to it.

This is the main reason I stopped gambling in physical sportsbook, in my region if you win a substantial amount and you don't do a little giveaway, street boys can even go to the extent of laying ambush and robbing you of your wins on your way home. Crazy story, as if the man has the every right to demand some money everything someone won a game. So I guess it's not the game itself but the audacity of that man to act like he was a gangster or something and asking protection money.

So I'm surprised that the person is feed up with it and has to take actions because it will be a repeat every time that he will play and win the game. Or course, it could steamed from poverty though, and that could be the bad side of gambling. Those people are really looking to play their last money and think that they can make more.

And we have heard this "scatter" game from the Philippines that it really taken the country into the gambling addiction.

I don't like it when there are people who will decide what I will do with my winnings, especially those who will pester me to give them some of it as "balato".

But I don't think I will go to that level of shooting a man just to prove that I am mad at what he was doing. If it is that low, just give it to him so that he will stop, or there's always an option of just going home and avoiding him.

I can be wrong and it is not good to shoot people, but what would you do, if someone intensively ask, beg and demand you to give him money, then take your stuff, then a fist fight starts. That shot can be a self-defense action. The person who was shot, must have left when winner refused to share winning. He should have left when the winner (probably) tried to swing a punch to scare beggar away. If you bother someone, pisses him off, then get involved into a fight, and you are the whole conflict starter... You cant get easy away from that situation and pretend you are a victim here.

I am not who supports to solve conflicts with aggression. But imagine you are in situation, when you have purchased something, someone saw how you pay (you have made a large payment, showed your wallet or took a big change back), then this person follows you, ask for money and dont leave you alone. How long will you resist to show some aggression to scare this dude away?

Sometimes approach matters. You need a favour from somebody you don't just become aggressive towards the person, you have to be polite with the person rather than being too troublesome. The gambler could have given him the money as it is nothing compared to what he had won but the way and manner at which the begger harassed is what I think got him provoked to have shot him. The gambler failed law buy doing such and will go in for it. At first his did he got the gun? Is it a licenced gun, who game him the gun? Of course he will tell the police and court he had it for protection against the harassment but did he reported the matter to the police? There are many questions for him to answer and it was not alright for him to have taken the law into his hands.

I don't call that needing a favor. If someone needs a favor, they should know their boundaries and respect the decision of the next person, but in this case, the guy was so impulsive and asked as if it was his right to get a fair share of the winnings, which is not so, you call that amount demanding small amount, but it's really not compared to how much was actually won, the total money won was just about $8 according to the article and the guy was demanding for $0.8 which is roughly 10% of the total winning, is he asking for Tithe, or he's tax authority collecting tax money, the means used was aggressive if it was just a pre-vocational fight without firearms being involved I could have not seen anything wrong done by the suspect.

The gambler may be seeing it like the guy is bullying him and he does not want that.

I have seen such situations before that the person will think he is playing with the other person, but the other person is seeing it as bullying. It has even happened to two of my classmates before,  the other class mate threw cutlass to the classmates and the bullying-like act ended there and no such thing from that day. And luckily no one was wounded.

I will blame the person that wanted to collect money from the gambler, he put him in that situation for frustrating the guy's life.

I also understand that only those you are familiar with can talk to you like that because they are aware that a win of one is not bad winning for all because you have been playing with your funds, so it is no worth the disturbance of the other guy regularly asking for his share like that.

No, it's not just those you are family with that can behave like this, some people can act so funny, once they know what you are doing, they can pester you for just no reason, even if they are not your friend. From the storyline, it was never mentioned that the victims was a friend to the culprit, maybe it's just someone he knows on the street (but they might not be friends).

Investigators said the confrontation stemmed from the victim’s repeated requests for a P50 share whenever the suspect won money from playing the online game Scatter.

The victim happen to have always been demanding for a share each time the suspect wins, so it's something that has been going on for a long time with them. The suspect just went too far to have taken laws into his hands. He actually fucked up by even letting people know that he has won money meanwhile he is playing online where only him can keep his mouth short and never mention his winning to anyone.

If the one harassing the gambler had no motive whatsoever to act like a vandal like he did not only should get jailed buy jailed for a very long time, of course gun shot is a massive defiance of the law and together with the act that he did without any valid reason should serve him enough of jail time. Now maybe the knew each other somehow as I see here online winnings meaning the aggressor had knowledge of the victim winning money. Strange event but at least things settled in a good way.

Sometimes, even the most patient, religious or the kindest person can reach their limit and act in ways that are out of their character, especially when they are already dealing with personal struggles in their life or gambling related problems... The constant provocation from others can push someone to make a harmful decisions that may damage their future. While I do not support any form of physical violence too, it is possible for situations like this to occur when a person is repeatedly provoked but like what you'be said, that person will have to take the consequences that he made. We dont know what other people dealing in their life so the best thing that we can do is be kind, in any possible ways.

That wasn't begging, It was demanding which is very stupid, was he involved someway in the gamblers victory, what right does he have to beg or demand from someone's risk taking? Was he going to split the deposits if the bet lost.

Yea, I'm pissed off, for the amount as well, I feel something escalated the situation to be worse than dragging for a share of the prize.
