All of this mess for $0.80; the gambler should have just complained to him in the barangay so he would stop pestering him. The culture here is that people ask for a small share of the winnings so yu will get more luck and more winnings in the future. I don't believe in this culture because if you sum up your winnings and your losses, you still have more losses than winnings.
I feel sorry for the gambler. I hope he can fix his issue and just do the right thing by complaining to the police station.

For most people, $0.81 might seem like a small amount, but for someone living with limited means, it might be quite significant. I don't want to justify that guy shooting someone for such a small amount, but the victim's actions are also unjustifiable. So this was a "balato" thing. Even if it's me, I'll be annoyed but I don't think it's justifiable to shoot and do something harmful that's likely to take the life of the person. The guy got to the nerve of the winner, knowing that it's not a lot of win although for those folks it's big already. I think what led that guy to pester him was the frustration of being declined to that share that he asks and that's the reason why he continued to mess him up. But it's truly ridiculous what we're seeing in the news lately, and online gambling sure is a big news in our country everyday.

The winning is so small that to give others a share of the winnings if the guy is a close friend and he also gave the gambler a share of his winnings in the past; then he should return the favor. If not, then ignore him; he can report him to the authorities for malicious mischief instead of giving in to his provocation.

I believe the one who was begging for just small amount has mental problems and so the gambler should just give him the money. Also, you don't need to do such violence even if you are pissed off. Just ignore and find a way not to interact with that person. I am sure he has mental problems because a normal person won't be that so insistent of getting some winnings and asking for that amount only.

So who is the victim here and who is the suspect? As far as I can tell, the guy who is regarded as the suspect in this story is actually the victim; he was attacked by an entitled man who claims to be entitled to what he won, and he felt threatened and only used the firearm to defend himself. It's a crazy story; at least he did not aim for a killing point, or else the assaulter could not have been alive to regret his action.

Funny how the victim turns the suspect and the suspect turns the victim, this could really happen if you let your emotions rule over your mind when decision making. But on the other hand, such attitude and gesture of the other person should not be tolerated, because once you tolerate it, there's high chances that he'll do the same thing to the other gamblers. At lest, he learned his lesson now, and you learned your lesson as well the hard way.

I just saw the Facebook post today, and I thought there was already a thread about this, I was right.

This incident went way too far. If he was really that annoyed, he could have just punched the guy instead of choosing to shoot him. That was a terrible decision. Now he won't be able to enjoy his winnings because he'll likely end up in jail.

As for the guy who kept asking for a tip, maybe next time he'll think twice and learn not to keep asking people for money. I would understand if he had provided the gambling funds or somehow contributed to the win—then asking for a tip would at least make some sense. But if he didn't contribute anything, then repeatedly asking for a tip was too much.

For me, both of them were wrong. You can't attempt to kill or kill someone just because you're annoyed over being asked for a tip. I don't know why some persons are like this, must the gambler always give him from his win, he abuse the privilege of friendship, was it his money the gambler used in gambling, am sure the gambler must have been given him some money before, but that day he went out of luck and never met the gambler in a good mood.

Gamblers should always keep their secrets within themselves for security purposes mainly when they have wins to avoid such attacks like this what if the guy had not asked him but set him up to be robbed and in the process got hot or killed, we should not be carried away with our wins and always announce them.

It may seem ridiculous to us because we are pretty much just outsiders, outsiders who realize the bullet which was fired was of more value than the money which started the fight in the beginning. But that is how it works, people suffering from addiction to gambling are not reasonal, actually, anyone suffering from any kind of addiction would not be reasonal. That is why addictions are so scary, because they strip us out of our common sense, you know.

So, according to the article, a gambler won around 500 pesos($8) a week ago before the incident happened, and the guy who got shot asked the gambler to share some of the winnings with him(he was asking for 50 pesos, which is $0.81), but the guy refused, since then he kept pestering the gambler to share some of his winnings whenever they see each other, the guy asking for some of the winnings from the gambler would get angry and take some of the gambler's cigarrete without permission if the gambler refuse to share some of the winnings. This is just as ridiculous as a road rage incident.
People need to realize that the most valuable thing we have: our life. If the amount involved is insignificant and you've already seen that it will take a lot of effort to recover it, then it is better not insist in it. You never know how the other person will react, what they are going through or what they is capable to doing.
And if the amount is significant, then it is better to go through the legal system, hire a lawyer and act according to the law. Even if it takes time, it is still better than risking your life over a personal debt collection.

Anyway, it is regrettable what some people is capable to doing for money, but it only reminds me that the best thing is not depends on anyone when it comes to bet... place your bets on your own, do not tell to anyone who or how much you bet and deal with the profits or losses by yourself. Nothing can replace a peaceful night's sleep without worries.

There is always a chance the guy also was under the influence of some drug or illicit substance and that is what pushed him to assault/mug the other guy. One nerves knows for sure when someone is willing to try to rob other people for such small amount of money.

But yeah... You have got a good point when comes to leaving other people outside of your gambling life and keeping it all for yourself, it is best approach if you live in a place where there are simply too many thugs like the one in this story.

I can relate to this, but in my case it's a tipster; they give you tips. If the tips hit the jackpot, you need to give a share of the winnings, or they will despise you and even dare you to a fistfight.

It's better to give a small share when you hit the jackpot, or just get away from the premises; don't count your winnings in front of these people, and don't brag about your winnings.

Don't just be mindful of your bets; be also mindful of the people around you, and as much as possible avoid interaction to people you do not know inside the gambling premises.

Well, what started things that led to this incident is obviously gambling but that's not where the trigger lies. The fact that he became a pest to the winner of the bet is the thing that eventually led to an argument that wouldn't have eventually escalated to something really bad.

Even siblings do have similar issues of stuff that starts really small and that eventually escalate into a full blown disaster. If you focus on the cause alone and neglect the process that led to the problem, you're going to misjudge.

Giving tip to those around at the point of win is a normal thing but any form of entitlement will make me refuse giving the tip for reals.

Is it that serious? Someone completely shot all because he literally refused to share his gambling winnings as if when he was so busy losing money they were there to share from his lost. That's actually the height of it because I believe something like this can't even happen in my country, because you that pulled out such a criminal act, the consequences you are going to get will be something you will never forget in a hurry to be honest. However, that's actually crazy and very insensitive , If they're that concerned in gambling winnings nobody is actually stopping them from gambling, they can go ahead and try their own luck instead of looking for someone that has already made his and decide unleashing such devilish act on him, that's not fair. It turns out that he shot because of 0.8 dollars and a stolen cigarette?! Some kind of wild morals. Perhaps, after all, the reason could be the long-standing strained relations between these people. In general, of course, such cases of aggression (not necessarily related to gambling) are found everywhere in different countries. And if the parties to the conflict do not use firearms, then knives or axes often appear.

Someone was hacked with broken bottle right in front of me some years back when I was in a sport outlet watching football match with a friend, I went there to meet the friend for something and i normally don't like going to such place to watch sports but it was a wrong time and that experience adds up to the reason why I don't go out to watch matches with other people, one thing lead to another and a fight broke out, it was so ugly that I had to run for my life, this was just about a sport team fan against others, it's all arguments but when it comes to winning in a betting store you will see some ugly hearted people asking you for their own share, it's what they do all week, they will wait pretending to be one who also likes to gamble, you are wrong, they are there to look for the next winner so that they can make money from them, nothing beats online gambling in terms of safety wise.
