They have no choices as calling them or not, it's responsibility of head coach, and using them or not, it's also decision from their head coach. They also don't know that whether they will be used during a long tournament and if they leave the headquarter of their national team, it's unprofessional. No players should do that, except if there are something massive happen with their family. Otherwise, they should stay and wait for their chances very patiently.

Happy or not, only players know that but very possibly no players will feel actually happy.

Maybe other people have another question like will such players deserve to receive medals if their teams won it?
In my opinion, they deserve that because likely they had contributions in qualification phase that lasts for months before their national teams were eligible for a tournament.

I also think the same too, anyone that really want to be part of a winning team won't be too excited about being called up and not playing even though getting called up is a big deal.
Although for players in the latter stages of their career this won't be such if a big blow to them, players like Henderson, Neymar won't be too sad that they did not play or played a little minute respectively in this years world cup.
I think coaches should try to see that everyone plays.

I believe most players who finished the FIFA world cup without playing a single minute are not happy, looking at player like ngolo kante from his facial expression  you can easily tell that he was not happy.

frankly speaking I'm not pleased with what France coach did during the FIFA world cup, he could have given ngolo kante a chance to play during the group stage.

Leaving a legend  like ngolo kante on the bench throughout the entire tournament is like showing lack of appreciation for everything he has contributed to the France football, the  France coach just disrespected one of France greatest midfielders and I'm not happy even though I'm not a Frenchman.

It will be a feeling of nostalgic for them because at some point they will feel bad that they didn't feature on the game that they were invited for but when they remember that there are other players in their country that were not invited at all, they will have a kind of joy that their name is included in the country's list of players that went for the world cup. However, it will be their utmost joy if they had played for their country at the world cup. That is why I said they will have nostalgic feeling.

Also, those who come as substitute for first eleven players will wish that they retain the country's jersey to be the first liners too.

This is the life we live in. It is not a fair world. First choice regular struggle to be there permanently in their playing career, substitutes want to outplay first choice while those that have not played from the bench wish that they come in as substitute.

I'm not sure they have anything to lose, do they? They just have to accept the fact that they weren't called to play but were brought to the match just incase. We know how the world of football is, we need the best players out there, I'm not saying that people should not be given the opportunity to make their names or prove themselves worthy but there are times where the best of the best are needed to make the show go on.

Regardless of they play or not, they have to celebrate with the team. They are all equal in terms of player opportunities it's just that we understand there is best out of the best  and the time will surely come for one to prove himself worthy of the pitch..

It’s not even about the payment of their wages alone because most of the bonuses that many of them get from the World Cup they actually give it out as charity while some countries do not even pay up this money on time.

It is always a great privilege that a player is actually selected to represent his country at the biggest world tournament, that’s like you’re the top 25 players in the entire country, that’s a big boost regardless of what happens in the tournament. We have players who don’t come into play a single minute in the World Cup but we actually heard of them having great impact in the dressing room. The reality is that you cannot actually play all games and as such if a play isn’t actually rebellion about his minutes it send a bad message to other managers about your character and could even hinder one’s future career development

Well, I don't think those who didn't get a minute at the world cup would be happy about it, but they're all professionals, and I believe they all know how the game works. There are always first team choice/players that will always come ahead of others. It's something every player understands because that's how football works. And that's not enough reason to reject a call up. Playing in the WC is every player's dream even if a playing time is not guaranteed.

Let's use Spain as a case study. Assuming you(op) as a player rejected the callup letter just because a game time was not guaranteed, is it not obvious that you've already missed out from owning a WC title to your football career?. But meanwhile, those who didn't play a single minutes can also be called WC winners because they are part of the team... It's that simple.

Th players on bench are part of the team, not having the chance to feature in any match during the word cup tournament doesn't disqualified them from being part of the players that get honnered if the team win the world cup, for some reason we should accord them equal respect because there is always be a difference of outcome during the match if any player get injured and there is need for replacement during the match, and again is More better to get called by your country to feature in your team than being left out in the team to represent your country as a players, personally I see a lot of advantage aside the finances like word cup payments an other rewards for teams performance during the world cup.

Just being a World Cup player makes you historic, and if you're there, it's because you were better than hundreds of other players. In fact, many world-class players have never been to a World Cup.
