Given the current economic challenges in Nigeria, including the devaluation of naira and high inflation, have pushed many people toward digital assets. While Bitcoin remains the most recognized cryptocurrency. I have taken notice of people around me and they prefer holding USDT instead of BTC for their daily financial activities.
One of the reason for this is price stability. Due to the volatile nature of BTC a trader or employee who is paid with digital money would prefer to be paid in a more stable coin so as not lose value when converting to naira. An employee for instance, who receives payment in BTC could lose 3-5% of its value within a day due to the fluctuations in the market. On the other hand, USDT is designed to maintain a value close to one US dollar, making it a more reliable store of value for short term savings and daily transactions.
However, Bitcoin remains the leading decentralized cryptocurrency in the world and is better suited as a long term investment for many people. In my opinion, the choice depends on the purpose. If someone needs stability for payments or other forms of transaction or short term temporary savings, USDT is the better option in Nigeria's current economy. If the goal is long term investment bitcoin becomes an excellent choice.
