Judit Polgar, Chess Queen, rejects Hungarian Presidential Nomination

Following the conflict between the Prime Minister of Hungary, Peter Mayar, and the previously appointed President Tamas Sulyok who refused to step down after being set to stay in this position by Viktor Orban, a leader who wanted his reign to continue under Tamas Sulyok. Peter Maygar, the PM, condemned this approach of maintaining a political Legacy, and demanded that Tamas Sulyok steps down, after months of struggles and disagreements, Tamas Sulyok, signed the political amendment constituted by the PM, on 20th July he left the seat. 

Seeing the strength and respect Judit Polgar controls across the world, especially in the Chess world, the Prime Minister entrusted her the opportunity to become the President of Hungary, but she turned him down, saying that; I do not feel enough Strength within me to take on the historic responsibility of uniting a divided nation, so I am Unable to accept the request.

Seeing this news, I thought she'd accept the role, but was surprised to read through the article and discovered she turned this huge offer down, I was just watching on youtube that the Prime Minister came on Live to apologize, saying that his respect for the Chess Queen has increased, following a refusal to accept this role.

 From where I stand, it looks as if Peter is only trying to give Judit that role simply because of her popularity and not because he felt she could handle the position and I also commend her for rejecting the offer cause it's one thing to be famous for your ability to play chess and it's another to be known as the leader of a country. A lot of responsibilities and expectations will be on you and once you can't deliver, your reputation will take a hit. It's good to always work according to our strengths. Challenges are what makes us better but there are some things you take on, it will bring you down and leave you in regret so yeah, Judit Polgar made the right choice.

She is right, you know. A chess board only has 64 squares on it. Real life might have a whole lot more, and not always squares. I wonder if she plays 3D chess.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could fight all wars on a chess board, so to speak? Nobody would die, and no property would be destroyed. But that would take honor. And politicians can't have honor if they want to be effective in office in this world.

So, Judit is being honorable by declining. Besides, the pay probably isn't good enough.

A lot of responsibilities and expectations will be on you and once you can't deliver, your reputation will take a hit. It's good to always work according to our strengths. Challenges are what makes us better but there are some things you take on, it will bring you down and leave you in regret so yeah, Judit Polgar made the right choice.

I was on a similar conversation with a friend, who also mentioned that accepting to do a job above her capacity would end up damaging all the good reputations she built brick by brick over the decades. Politics is a rough career, finding herself as the president of Hungary with no prior experience in any political role will make her another puppet for top politicians on domestic and international level.

If that was the case, she wouldn't have declined the offer, knowing that she'd become the strongest woman in the world.

I guess not everyone is greedy and selfish. This speaks a lot about her character and this singular act will push her popularity. We need more people like this and just like you said, where come from they won't think twice about the offer as they will see it as an avenue to enrich themselves the more. Imagine being as young as she is and being a president, wow!

To intelligent and empathic people, life is not about money and power. They see having more power coming with more responsibility. To seek a position in power, it takes either a person who wants to abuse the power to empower their lives, or an idealistic person who wants to work for the people, without making it about themselves. If you are a latter one, it's a mountain of work that requires degree in social sciences just to understand what you are doing in the first place.

And to top of this, having a position of power in a divided nation makes you impossible to have a private life. You will just get constant death threats and everyone you know are dragged into the media circus.
