I’ve been seeing more people create businesses inside virtual worlds, rent digital spaces, and build experiences around virtual locations. Some believe this could be the next evolution of online communities, while others think it’s just another speculative trend.

I recently came across a Reddit discussion where several people mentioned earning a few hundred dollars from a Mars-themed virtual world called MarsColonia. It made me curious about whether virtual land can actually develop a real economy over time.

What are your thoughts? Is virtual real estate something with long-term potential?

The first one which was from Mark Zuckerberg called Metaverse, people expected it to have gotten more than it is today, but the hype was cooled, although the project is still growing but just not in the way people thought.

The one that you are asking of is the consumer virtual world which is also the one that I said have cooled down. But there are other aspects of it like companies using it for trading, product designing and others. Also the gaming part of it is still good. You can see VR and AR part of it to be also good, those $700 glasses sold massively.

I don't see it past the gaming experience. I believe that in the future, virtual reality games will become much better than they are today, but I don't think they will be more than a gaming experience. Of course, people will make money from it; they already make money from normal gaming, but that won't turn it into something that it's not.

As long as something can be monetised, then it will be monetised. It may get to a point where people can get gigs to advertise products, companies or services through their platform in VR for people watching them, just as they do in live-stream gaming or something like that.
The point is, as it continues to become a thing and more people start going into it, there will be money to be made from it.

I think GVA VI will have the potential to sustain real world income trough virtual ecosystems.
I am not a digital creator, but I understand there will be huge demand for in game artifacts, so it will be relatively easy to exact value from this demand.
I am sure you can find a lot of guides on Youtube or similar websites.

I don't know if you are late to this or something but I think the hype about the metaverse is gone; many projects were launched with some promising stupendous ROI and delivering nothing. As usual, a lot of people lost money while few like the founders smiled to the bank. In my opinion, that concept is a failed one as far as cryptocurrency is concerned,  hence I will not advice anyone to make too much financial commitments in that sector. Maybe in the future we might see some new things that will rekindle the hype which is needed to sustain a business in the digital ecosystem.

It's possible to earn a few hundred dollars from Mars Colonia, but the question remains: how much should you invest, and will that return be worthwhile? The long-term trend for these tokens is correction, and the possibility of making a profit for a day or two followed by a significant loss the next day doesn't make it a worthwhile investment.

I recently came across a Reddit discussion where several people mentioned earning a few hundred dollars from a Mars-themed virtual world called MarsColonia. It made me curious about whether virtual land can actually develop a real economy over time.
Could you add a link to those discussions? There are some paid campaigns on Reddit, but they're easier to find.

What are your thoughts? Is virtual real estate something with long-term potential?
As long as it generates revenue, you're free to do business; but no, the virtual world craze has over before it even fully reached the middle class. I consider it a failed portion of the gaming industry. I don't think people will actually want to spend much time in virtual worlds or simply collect digital certificates. Virtual real estate isn't everyone's cup of tea.

When I first learnt about this virtual reality and renting of digital space was at the time that NFT was really a big trend and as at that time, there was this project called spheroid univers, their idea was to create a virtual world were every member of their ecosystem can buy his or her virtual space/land in different locations or country of the world, and later the person can sell the space for a huge amount. Since the year that the project was live till I stopped following up with them, I never witnessed that any of their users was able to sell the space they bought at a high amount but at some point, the price of their token went up and early users sold and made profit.

This trend has been in existence for a long time and I have not actually seen so much of a success in it, the trend has even cooled down compare to the time of NFT.

Did you research further on how those people were able to earn the money? It's the first time I'm hearing about this MarsColony but after checking them out, I just see that their idea is similar to what the other project I mentioned above is also doing. They have a native token which probably those people that made money from the project must have invested heavily on the token and sold off when the price of the token increase, or they must have also invested in those VR land space which is based on NFT and they later earned enough of the native token and sold it at a high price. That's to say, you can not earn from it when you are not investing and before you must invest in those kinds of project, you also have to consider the risk.

To answer your curiosity question; this virtual land is based on NFT and they have their native (altcoin) token used for utility purposes in their ecosystem, so, this NFTs and token is not backed by any real world asset (like real land, gold, house, US dollar), which make it risky for some investors to go into it, so I doubt it can develop to a real economy over time.

In my opinion, nope! Unless it's backed by any real world asset, commodity, etc

You are talking about metaverse, I came across some old post where people bought land in virtual world hoping to resale in the future and now worthless, I'm not sure if such still exist in this space. You either later to the party or you are seeing an old post that is renew which I think maybe a scam in my opinion, you are better off not investing ot spending money on such things because they are not a thing anymore, it will be a waste of money.

Perhaps I'm one of those who don't like the metaverse, NFTs, those things are the most useless innovation I have seen. As much as creativity is a welcome development, they are complete failure. Tell me one reason why I should ignore a physical world and invest in a virtual world where it's been host on another sever. One day, the team can wake up and say they are not interested again and that's a good bye.

I personally think that because of the emergence of opportunities in the digital space, there will be more exploration into it that will bring more opportunities, and "virtual real estate" is one such opportunity. But with this opportunity, any investor has to consider a lot of things because, just like NFTs, there was a lot of hype around 2021/22, and people invested a lot only for NFTs to lose a lot of that hype and activity. Even though NFTs are still in use now, it is not in a manner that many expected, that it will make them rich quickly.

What this means, and the reason for my comparison, is you have to be careful with new opportunities; being careful does not mean not to invest, but for you to do your research and be really sure of what you are getting into.

I think digital world and whatnot needs cheaper access to make it interesting for a lot of users. Spending $2k bucks for VR and whatnot isn't really appealing for most users. Even if you can attract wealthy people to use your world, the question about demand is still there. How much money they're willing to pour there, compared to buying stuffs or services directly. For example, game topups for live services are massive today, even toward shitty games. I doubt you can say the same for virtual world users with shitty games.

The economics of virtual real estate is flawed in a way that there's no value other than you wasting your money for what-not.
I see it more as a digital domain name or more of a site used for web hosting services, otherwise without human attention, it is basically worthless to say the least.

On the flip side though, it could be more rewarding and beneficial to buy a space inside a platform where there is much engagement from humans using it for active service such as for sales of real products other than buying real estate in a virtual world hoping it would appreciate in value overtime.

Isn't this the kind of prospect that came with most crypto few years ago where building virtual land was a target, where decentraland (MANA) and GALA was the leading projects then while others followed it. Then Atlas came up with the same idea and others too as well but they all failed at some point.

To me , this idea is just an illusion that will be hard to come through, especially through crypto because sudden bear season crashes the whole ideas and make investors to find the nearest exit. If it's a virtual world project that's non crypto related, would be difficult too because mainly the rich thinks about it and never really come through.

There have been many speculations on this topic in the past years, where people also used to get surprised when they got to know about such a digital space or metaverse. The concept of this technology is quite old, but I have also not seen any real-time execution of this. But if GTA VI is going to implement or adopt this idea, then I am sure this will be a great project of all time. So, let's see.

...

Well, mate, I think this is just spam; create a thread on the same topic in a different section. I was exploring, and I stumbled upon another thread on the same topic started by you in a different section. My message to you is that this does not make any sense: creating multiple threads on the same topic. Just create only one, and you will get all the information and replies in one or you are looking for something else in this way? (merits)

MarsColonia appears to be similar to other NFTs in that you can buy land and receive benefits while also earning money. You can make money from them, but in the long run, the price of the token and NFTs will fall unless the entire market becomes hyped again after block halving, as similar with Pixels, but right now the price is dropping; it appears that this is the nature of NFT games; they will eventually die in the long run. Not a good long-term investment, but it would be beneficial to buy a few of these during a bear market and hold them until BTC reaches a new ATH again.

I like the old Bitcoin game call Dragon's Tale. If this one exists, I like this one where you can also grind earnings and get unique loots and be able to gamble inside the game and buy some lands; it's a virtual world that I like, just like Dragon's Tale.

So basically renting land in a virtual world with costs and revenues can be unbalanced, maybe when the beginning of the metaverse was present it was still very good and worth hunting for to make money but now the virtual world is not much interest at all. I do not know now the VR sales industry has gone to what extent, and with the costs incurred are quite large, not to mention with the costs within the meta world itself. So I would rather buy a piece of land in the real world to manage than in the virtual world.

Even when I Search With The Keyword MarsColonia, there is no X (Twitter), Discord, Telegram, LinkedIn, Facebook or YouTube. Just the website https://marscolonia.com/.
So how can you be optimistic when information that should be publicly searchable is not available? What kind of Investor dares to spend money on this project?

The first one which was from Mark Zuckerberg called Metaverse, people expected it to have gotten more than it is today, but the hype was cooled, although the project is still growing but just not in the way people thought.

The one that you are asking of is the consumer virtual world which is also the one that I said have cooled down. But there are other aspects of it like companies using it for trading, product designing and others. Also the gaming part of it is still good. You can see VR and AR part of it to be also good, those $700 glasses sold massively.
The metaverse was a failed project that Mark developed, spending billions of dollars to build the metaverse but then lacking interest and making people lazy to use it.
Some of the reasons why the Metaverse has become a failed product are due to the lack of user interest that requires having metaverse supporting devices that are priced at high prices as well as some massive financial losses on virtual products that are purchased, such as buying a place in the virtual where the price continues to fall.

And speaking of virtual worlds and metaverse, crypto has also seen an increase as the metaverse has emerged with many projects that are building with metaverse themes, buying virtual land, renting out virtual places and even having virtual pets and I also once bought virtual pets that were also NFTs at a pretty expensive price back then, around $5k and guess what?
The decline continued to occur and there was no return, in the end everything was just garbage with the decline in metaverse enthusiasts at that time.

Only those who bought early and sold when the metaverse was still hype made huge profits, those who survived to the lowest point, did not gain any profits.

I think the possibility to access a huge ecosystem will be a central key in the success of the game.
Possibility to gain real dollars will attract a lot of creators, that will provide unique experiences for those who want to play at a deeper level.

Bots will destroy every open ecosystem!
Every game where you don't create serious gateways, enforce real KYC and player controls all the while offering them a way to make money will turn the game in a heaven of bot players, people with large pockets buying stuff from farmers and the average Joe who is sandwiched between them not being able to enjoy a thing like it was supposed to be.

Anyhow, Rockstar will milk everything out of everything they waited so much for, this no way they will not try it!

Yeah, that is true. GTA-V also give a kind of realistic vibe because of real-time players.
But what it lacks is that people are not making real-time money within the game, and this idea, I think Rockstar is going to implement in GTA-VI. At the same time, we both know big influencers and creators are fond of such things and creativity. But this time I think the scene of this play is going to be bigger than ever. Let's see.

You are correct here because I know real-time games contain a lot of bots in games, e.g; PUBGM is a big example of this. Bots play a big role in completing the match lobby quicker and for fast matching. So, I am not sure what Rockstar will do in this case of GTA VI.
