Android or iPhone for secure crypto storage?

Dear friends, hello.
I'm new here and just getting used to the forum, so please don't get mad if a similar topic has been discussed here. It's just that now the dollar has dropped in the country where I live and I can buy an iPhone inexpensively, but at the same time I love Samsung. Which of these operating systems is safer for crypto wallets? It seems to me that Android usually has a weak side of protection in such matters. Thanks in advance for the answers.

Just a brief note, this subject may be better suited to the Bitcoin Discussion board than the Technical Discussion board. Typically, the Technical board is dedicated to the Bitcoin protocol development, coding, cryptography and technical implementations. You can also use the search function to look for similar discussions and either ask your questions there or contribute to existing threads.

To answer your question, iOS and modern Android devices are secure for crypto wallets. It is normally the way you handle your keys, not the OS itself. Most people will suggest a hardware wallet for more significant amounts than just a mobile device for protection.

I would pick an IPhone though just slightly since Samsung especially the S series is great
IPhone apps are usually heavily sandboxed making it hard for any malicious app to collect data from others
Not to mention the constant update to patch vulnerabilities.

I would like to add if the amount is significant I'd advice using a hardwallet

It's means nothing if you don't implement due caution.

Go for the iOS if you are obviously a fan boy else in terms of hardware Samsung rocks plus you are less restricted and way Freer with an open source operating system like android.  iOS is close source and most people usually pick it for assumed status. Anyways your wallet safety really depends more on you than your device.

So long you are sure you are using an open source wallet and you are careful enough to keep your keys safe you should be good to go android doesn't make you immune same with an iOS device.

If you can go for an iPhone, I will advise you to go for it. So far, I can't remember the last time I saw a replica of apps on the App Store, but the Google Play Store doesn't do a very good job in app impersonation and removing fake apps even after reports. This is not a vouch that iOS is safe, there are times the App Store negligence exposes users to some fake apps, but they don't stay long before they are been remove immediately when they are found to be fake or impersonating another app.

I hope you know that having crypto storage on the best phone is not a guarantee for safety, using the phone with the internet, downloads harmful files can harm your storage. If you are going to use the phone for storage, it should be for a small volume of Bitcoin just for precautions. If you want to keep a large volume, please get a proper hardware wallet.

I'm using only Samsung S series; my current phone is S9+. I haven't experienced any security flaws yet, and I use the secured folder where my wallet is installed and always closed or hidden when not needed.
I think that weak side you think about Android is just because many people are using Android phones more than Apple iPhones, but the fact is iPhone also experience some security flaws; there's no device that has perfect security protection. It depends on the user how you protect your phone to any attack online.

If you want to be much safer, I recommend having a separate device that is not always connected to the internet to avoid attacks on your iPhone or Android.
Or hardware wallet and use your phone as your watch-only wallet.

No more secured devices nowadays; we are in a new generation. If your device is exposed online, you are vulnerable to all possible online attacks, including iPhones, which you think are much more secure than Androids.

The bigger question is what you keep on the phone. Any phone, iOS or Android, is a hot wallet, which is fine for small amounts. Buy whichever is cheaper for you, and put anything serious on a hardware wallet with the seed written on paper/metal offline.

Also, when using either phone, consider it a spyware device and do not think you're private.

I would recommend choosing an iPhone for your crypto wallet.. I've been an iPhone user since the iPhone 8 series and am now using an iPhone 15, and so far I haven't encountered any security issues.. specifically, iOS is known for its security and privacy, so more people are choosing to use it to manage their crypto wallets.

but as a reminder, even though it's secure, it's not completely risk-free.. you still need to be mindful of how you use your device. my suggestion is that if you have a little extra money, buying an iPhone for your crypto wallet and a Samsung for your daily device could be a good option.

Android phones like Samsung and Iphone is generally safe for crypto. Its just there are few differences between on how much control it can potentially give to people who use those gadgets.

What's good about IOS is it so hard to be penetrated by malwares. While Android is so flexible on many things, that's why lots of people accidentally download those bad apps and unfortunately many grant those super risky permissions that's why shit happens with them.

But people should not blame the OS of both phones towards this matter, because usually the user commit huge mistakes that's why hacking issues happens.

If you consider to became more serious storing your funds in future, better choose those more best set up like.

Choosing those open source or non custodial wallets, If aiming to hold huge volumes hardware wallets is best for this. But also what's more important is we should not store big funds on exchangers even if we say they are big platforms.

If you use the original Electrum and always have the latest version, you won't experience any issues with the wallet UI. The issue depends on your habits and the security of your device.

All my wallets and transactions have been made using Electrum desktop, and I've had it for almost a decade, and I've never experienced any issues. I'm not the typical user who makes frequent transactions, so I don't prioritize convenience.

Don't complicate things for yourself. If you want a cold storage to keep Bitcoin for long term kindly get a Trezor but if you are buying one, add Trezor safe metal to back up your seed phrase. This should be kept in an isolated place where no can access except you. If you make back up on the plate, you don't have to worry about seed phrase security to use a wallet. Spoiler: the metal plate is expensive than the cheapest wallet on Trezor product but it's worth your safety.

For mobile, you can use any wallet as watch wallet, Bluewallet or electrum are good or you may not even use any unless you want to be seeing your balance even if you are far away from your cold storage. Hardware wallet are cool, better and safe than the options you wanted to do with your mobile.

I don't know if there is a best operating system for crypto wallets. I just know that install a wallet on your phone/device that is reliable. To know this, you can take advice from experts or search online and choose yours from many wallets.
The second step is to save the security key and seed phrase of the crypto wallet because if you lose them, your crypto assets may also be lost because if you change the device or if it is damaged, you will need the seed phrase and security key to get those crypto assets back.
