As someone from a farming family, I can say that the people who make the biggest profit are usually not the farmers. It's the middlemen or those who buy produce directly from the farmers.
Before, most of the buyers were only from our municipality or nearby towns, so the prices they offered were quite low. But now, buyers from other provinces also come to buy our produce. Because of that, they've driven prices up, and the local buyers have had no choice but to increase their offers as well.
I'd say buyers from other provinces have helped improve the prices, even if it's only by a little. A little help is still help. But yeah, in the end, the middlemen and other capitalists are still the ones who make the most profit.
The farmers sells in a larger quantity to different other individuals who buys from them so i don't think they will make more profit more than the farmer unless the farmer doesn't have much products to sell, though i get your point a farmer can sell for $50 while the buyer resell back at $60 to $70 but since the farmer will be selling more he will definitely make more gain than the buyers individually.

This situation isn't the same in every country; there are places where intermediaries earn significantly more. Because they control the entire market, they can set the price they want and buy the products. This puts producers in a difficult position, and production is gradually decreasing. Imagine you make very little profit when selling your produce, while those who buy it from you make a much larger profit. In this case, producers need to make a sufficient profit to continue production. Intermediaries making much larger profits can be a major obstacle to production.

Surely the lucrative section of agriculture may not be tied to the farm land itself, the potential of the sector is enormous, in both developed and developing economies.
I really agree with the point you are making and I observe that a reason why the agricultural sector is losing a lot of interest is because the opportunities in it is not marketed enough that the younger generation see it as old and something they should not be involved in. Our food security is threatened and food preservation and transport to areas to where they can be used directly or converted to finished products. of the opportunities are marketed more, there will be more interest.

Other reasons why people don't value agricultural investment is because of stress, the capital of getting machineries also and many others, but these two factors are common. The stress in agricultural businesses is too much, if you are going into it without using your hand, then be ready to pay for laborers who will tirelessly work on your farm with manual tools. If you don't want to hire laborers, but prefer machines, that is another expensive investment that will take lots of your capital. It's never easy for individual farming but only government does it perfectly with machines and laborers.

It's kinda pretty much known that the farm is getting small slice of the bread, every money you pay goes to distribution. There is reason farmers aren't getting rich and only earning enough to keep them survive the next harvesting season. Every documentary always points to the distribution taking up huge chunk of the fee. Money is always on financing and distribution side.
In fact, those who have a business mind and good knowledge of economic matters can actually create a good startup from many small parks in a sector and through macro business. And to be honest, their importance is not less now, because now farming is not limited to traditional methods, now many technological aspects of farming are used, in this case, there are many processes starting from before farming to after harvesting. And in the case of economics, we can make revenue from each part if we can also work as a supply chain for that part. However, there are complications here too, just as there are other issues, starting from land acquisition before starting farming, and here too, one must have knowledge about investment and technical knowledge at the start.

I'll give you some idea of how my country looks like. The Philippines is rich in agriculture but it's mismanaged due to the incompetent politicians and they're prioritizing their corruption rather than helping our farmers. The ones who's mostly profitable in the agriculture sector aren't the farmers of my country but the middlemen. They are the ones who put so much margin from what they're buying from the farmers. For example, in Baguio city which is known for its fresh vegetable products. They don't receive any help from the local government to deliver their goods and be sold in the public markets. What they do? they're selling it at a losing price and much worse, they are destroying it so that no one benefits from it like the tomatoes. Because the middlemen are wanting to buy their vegetables at a sharp discounted price, they have no compassion to the farmers but driven by greed.

One of the most successful entrepreneurs in agriculture may never plant a single seed. Whenever people talk about making money from agriculture, the first advice is usually; "acquire a land and start farming." But farming is only one part of a much larger agricultural economy.
Before food moves from the farm to your table, it must be harvested, collected, sorted, preserved, transported, processed, packaged, finance and distributed. And at every stage of that journey, there is a problem waiting for someone to solve profitably. The farmer produces the crops. Who prevents the produce from spoiling? Who transports it to other areas? Who processes it into a higher value product? Who supplies the machinery? Who connects the farmer to reliable buyers?
Of course when you are in for a business, then you must be ready to face the things involved in it. Agriculture is lucrative but it comes with a little bit of stress, not like other regular businesses. Yes acquiring land is not the only thing but still it's the most important in agriculture. When you get the land then you plan how to plant, harvest process and distribute. But you don't do everything at once. Everything is based in timing. You always plan ahead. When you plant and it's not upto harvest season start planing ahead of time Incase of harvest. Although it's not that easy but when you bargain for agriculture be ready to face the step by step procedure to be able toake profit in the long run, Afterall there is no pain no gain.

That is true and is also another section where many people are not really looking into but their attention is focused on having the farm itself without knowing that agriculture is broader than they imagined. When a farmer or an individual does not really focus on one section of agricultural production you would see them receiving enough dividends through restocking, processing and preservation as this aspect of agriculture are the most important parts of it but majority do not know. When you talks about perishable foods or goods then you should be thinking about the methods and processes to preserve them, with all these someone can still make profits from it without directly becoming a farmer.

This is where many of the biggest agricultural opportunities are hiding. A farmer may work for months to produce perishable commodities, but without proper storage and access to buyers, a large portion of that value can disappear within days, obviously the bigger problem is in preservation, processing and distribution.
A farmer who farms a perishable goods should be able to provide a preservative measures to help enhanced a good preservation so that he will not lose, a farmer that didn't prepare before embarking on a perishable farming business is bound to fail. All the farmers I know in my locality make sure they are well equipt before they start farming business. It's just like trying to start a cold room when you don't have adequate electrical supply, it's obvious you are not ready for that business.

Surely the lucrative section of agriculture may not be tied to the farm land itself, the potential of the sector is enormous, in both developed and developing economies.
But another thing is that opportunities are not only in the later stages of production, because sometimes the biggest problem for farmers is not having information about the correct market price. As a result, even after growing a good crop, they are forced to sell at a low price and later the same product is sold at a much higher price. Information and market connectivity is also one of the big opportunities in the agricultural sector. I would say that production, storage and market connectivity all add value in the agricultural value chain.

The main ingredient of a business is networking, and that has proven to be more profitable than actual business. One without a business can make good profits from simply connecting people, sometimes even more profits than the actual businessmen because there is no chances of loss of goods with a middleman. Calculating the cost of production, you would realize that the farmers makes little profits less than we imagine and the main business is with the middleman who sells to retailers. The more buyers, the more profit is secured, that is the essence of networking.

I agree with you OP that people who benefits more from agricultural produce are not always the farmers that puts in most of the work on their land, sow and harvest after months of hard labor. I have a friend who is into poultry, he said that the work is very tasking but in terms of profit that it is the whole sellers that buys it from them and supplies to the retailers and restaurants that gains the most, they don't put as much work as the farmers but they gain so much more. I also know somebody who is into Cocoa farming, he said that after putting in all the hard labor labor that is is the government approved distributors that buys it from them that makes bulk profit.
For a farmers to make it big according to their capacities is to also be involved in the distribution channels of their products, if they can do it that means that they can become rich.

Farming is very lucrative in every sector, so categorizing only those that process farm products as the farmers that makes the most revenue is wrong. We also have those that are into animal farming, so do you think that these set of people that process farm products makes more revenue than the animal farmers? No, because animals like pigs, dogs and dock foul that give birth to a large numbers of offspring are way more lucrative than those that are processing farm product or those planting it. I have not even spoken of chicken's that lay eggs you can decide to sell into the market, especially if you deals on layers. So in essence of what am trying to say is that agriculture is profitable all round as long as you you know how to make the best out of every opportunity while at it.

I really agree with the point you are making and I observe that a reason why the agricultural sector is losing a lot of interest is because the opportunities in it is not marketed enough that the younger generation see it as old and something they should not be involved in. I don't think the younger generation is the problem for why the agricultural sector is losing its viability. For me, I will hold the government accountable because when the government doesn't pay much attention, it becomes a sector people won't find much interest in, as the agricultural sector requires good investment from the government. Some years back, before crude oil and other natural resources were discovered, some countries in West Africa relied on agricultural products, and the economy was doing very well then, but they failed to maintain the agricultural sector. Every part of agricultural products, from the seeds, fruits, and leaves to trees, has its own economic importance. I blame the government and not the younger generation because the government has a significant role to play in the agricultural sector.

The point is, the people who can profit from agriculture aren't the farmers themselves. In my area, the ones who profit most aren't the farmers themselves, but rather the collectors and traders in the market. Collectors essentially buy crops or whatever they need from farmers at a relatively low price. Collectors then sell them to traders at a slightly higher price, and then from traders to buyers, it can be even higher. That's what's happening in my area right now. So, basically, it's mutually beneficial, because, as you said, agriculture offers numerous opportunities for people to make money. When planting, the land must be plowed and cleared, and that clearly requires human labor in my area. This clearly creates job opportunities, although not for long. Then, after the harvest, it's the same. So, agriculture does indeed generate a lot of job opportunities. That's very good.

Should I say you misunderstood the op, when you look at the subject of the thread, he used "may not" that means there is uncertainty there, but if you should practically look into what he said, he might actually be right, yea there's money in the farm itself, I'm talking about those that do the farm, but we can't compare money that's been made from the farm with that of those that do the processing, I think this is very easy to understand mate. I have gone through all you said but I wish you relax a bit and get th point the op is trying to although our ideas will have to clash sometimes for us to learn more but there isnt no way these farmers you used as example will make money more than those that process it, unless those that buy little from them, as for those that buys to process for large consumers, the difference is clear.

Of course and that is certain, what produces the economy and obtains wealth does not come from agriculture itself, you can see those who have economic income and abundant wealth from the agricultural product management industry and also those who provide agricultural facilities, such as medicines, modern agricultural machinery, fertilizer, seeds and so on. Likewise with agricultural investors who provide marketing and services, they can earn more money from providing logistics and also carrying out distribution, exports, Farmers are only managers who get a limited income from the harvest, those who enter farming without planting by providing the means as I said above, they can produce a fantastic economy from the farmers themselves.

A farmer who farms a perishable goods should be able to provide a preservative measures to help enhanced a good preservation so that he will not lose, a farmer that didn't prepare before embarking on a perishable farming business is bound to fail.
You're right but there are perishable goods that cannot be preserved for a long time which means that even if the farmer make provision for preservatives, if they are not sold within the shortest period of time, they can still spoil and the farmer will lose a lot of money. For example, perishable goods like banana do not have any preservatives when it is ripe which implies that if it is not sold within a couple of days after ripe, it will rotten. Farming is very lucrative in every sector, so categorizing only those that process farm products as the farmers that makes the most revenue is wrong.
Farming is not lucrative in every sector of agriculture. If you look at the stress and manpower that a farmer undergoes while trying to make the farm produce available, you will see that those who process the foods and make it ready for consumers are the ones that makes the most revenues. Imagine you make very little profit when selling your produce, while those who buy it from you make a much larger profit. In this case, producers need to make a sufficient profit to continue production. Intermediaries making much larger profits can be a major obstacle to production.
The cost of production is high, so it demoralizes producers in the sense that after all their efforts, they only get very little profits while the wholesalers make most of the profits since they will set price themselves which covers their expenses such as the cost of transportation.

Surely the lucrative section of agriculture may not be tied to the farm land itself, the potential of the sector is enormous, in both developed and developing economies.
The farmers of the raw produce are more or less the primary source of farming of which is essential for human survival, because without the raw farm produce these farmers harvest, there would be just more than hunger and famine in the world. However, farming as a high margin agricultural business model covers both the infrastructure, the financial aspect, biotechnology and the logistics needed to transform the raw produce into finished and processed goods that create employment, increase investment profits and ensure that there is inter-trade relationship between nations and countries of which does more to ensure peace and prosperity in any region.

Surely the lucrative section of agriculture may not be tied to the farm land itself, the potential of the sector is enormous, in both developed and developing economies.
That’s right, the real people that make money from agriculture is the investors who buy the goods with farmers and store them for sometimes when the demand is low and the supply is high, then bring it out for sell when there is a high demand and a very low supply since the farmers have sold their farm products, the marketers will now sell at a very high price and that’s where they have their money from. But some farmers that have money keep their farm products for long so that they can sell when the goods are scarce in the market to make more profit from the goods; and these set of farmers usually make more money than those farmers that sell immediately after harvest.
